I think if you go into the movie expecting to see a Rocky movie and not a boxing movie it's still very good. It suffers from that franchise problem of having to have things go a certain way for instance A New Nightmare is very different than all the other Freddy Krueger's but a very stand alone good film. I think the biggest part of this movie was between him and his son and that was good for me

Back in 1990 I bought the newspaper U.S.A. today just about every day. The first review I read about Rocky 5, a character I had been following since I was a little kid in the early 80s. The journalist wrote that this is the best Rocky movie since the first one and gave it 3,5 out of 5 stars. Indeed Rocky had just fought the best fight of his career, but how much can the brain take. Stallone chose the realistic move though risky with this movie. Drago couldn’t be upgraded. That was the limit of humanity as for big, strong, near inhumane and doped as well. You can question the money situation and Pauli’s, but otherwise this movie kept Rocky from becoming a joke. The movie is good. I always thought it was respectable. As for Rocky 6! Man, I’m glad he made that almost 15 years later. Won’t spoil anything, but it ends Rocky perfectly.
I like your perspective on the ending vs a Tommy vs Rocky fight in the ring. I take your point about not letting the promoters profit. When I watched all those years ago, the ending felt manufactured because there is no way a boxer and promoter would call out another boxer on the street in real life. On top of the obviously overblown theatrics of 4, it really felt like Rocky had lost its way.

Yeah, as you know, I loved R5 as well. Also, I think Stallone is just agreeing with his fans, I don't think there's anything wrong with R5, but, of course, one of these 6 movies needs to be the least favorite, and Stallone is not going to argue with the fans, why would he? Cheers! (:
@@BossMovieReactions That's exactly what Stallone was doing. He recently backtracked on his views on R5 saying he has a soft spot for it. He was clearly just agreeing with the fans at the time which is a shame.

Nice reaction again, loved it! 😊 It would have been wrong to skip this part, especially when you watch the Rocky movies for the first time! And when you go for the last one, be aware that there are two versions of Rocky Balboa (official title of Rocky VI), with different endings. I would go for the cinema version, because it's got more greatness than the alternative ending! 🙂 To talk about Rocky V it seems to me people sometimes don't love it that much because of various reasons, you already named a few. I personally like this movie, although I don't love it that much as the other five Rocky movies, yet it's still a good movie! My reason is that it feels not right to me that Rocky does not realize how blind he is to his son's needs. That's not exactly the Rocky with the big heart we have seen in the movies before, who wants the best for everyone. When he starts to take care of Tommy and neglecting his own son, the gap between the two youngsters in how they're treated is much to big in my opinion, and it puts a little bad taste to it. But I understand, the storytelling needs drama. I just could have lived with less drama. Long talk short, I still like the movie, the story, the speeches, and I liked, that in the end there was no fight in a ring just because it was expected. Oh yeah, and of course I liked the punch into Duke's face! 😅 I'm no friend of violence, but he deserved it!
I think you did a great job breaking down the film and giving some different perspective. I have never really liked Rocky V, and part of that is the fact that the film was not (out of the original 5) as strong of a film as the previous 4 films. And yes, Rocky and his family are in a different stage of their lives. And like you said, we get a different ending because Rocky vs Tommy is more of a revenge/satisfaction ending rather than inspirational/heartwarming ending. And you are right, all those scenes with Adrian and Rocky Jr. and Mickey were fantastic. But the Tommy gun training/betrayal and their street fight is a little off for me. The street fight, to me, just doesn't give off "big payoff" like all the others. The film does a great job making you hate Tommy and you want to see Rocky knock some sense into him....but him fighting in the street with camera crews and people standing around cheering....it was a bit off to me. And I understand....this was suppose to be the last Rocky film and it was going to wrap up the Rocky story as him winning back his family and being a father.... But I would have made some changes in the writing.... but that is just me. And I am definitely not someone that can write a good story, but I just would have preferred Rocky V have a different ending and maybe a slightly different premise. Maybe have Rocky in the hospital fighting health issues (like Adrian in Rocky II)? Maybe have Rocky struggling to let actually fighting go (like Apollo in Rocky III and Rocky 4) but have him eventually learn to let it go to save his life and be with his family? Maybe have Rocky still train Tommy, Tommy leaves him for the money, but Rocky finds another fighter to train (that has heart) and have Rocky build that guy up and teach him stand strong during the big fight? I don't know. Maybe this was the best they could produce writing wise given the path of the franchise at that time?
Great reaction! As i said before underated movie! I ranked Rocky 5 third favorite on a good day! The only thing i think that push this movie abit down is too much of kid scenes and Tommy wasent a good actor..hell of a fighter in real life.. Rip Tommy and Sage!!
I think in order to feel it properly you should know befor part 6. that the audience in vegas was there to watch a real heavyweight championship fight. the scenes for rocky 6 was filmed befor the real fight starts. therefore the emotions, cheering, et cetera wasnt scripted betwen the boxingfans and the actors in this scenes.
I never thought 5 was awful. Its just my least favorite of all the series. But it does have some touching moments especially the Mick scene. Your analysis make me like the film a bit more. Some great points.
I really liked this movie. It’s not so popular but I liked it. It was different. We got to see another side of the story. If he fought in the ring again it would be like all the other endings. Him fighting in the street was important. It’s where he started before he got trained. He didn’t fight for the money or publicity. Plus if he fought in the ring it would be making everyone else rich.
Yes!! I knew being a man of quintessential taste and sensibility you'd be able to appreciate this needed chapter in the Rocky franchise Mike. I told you it was great! Did you notice while you watched it or put together your thoughts for your wrap up that Don King .... Errr.. Duke (😉) completely finessed Tommy in front of the media and privately to seek out a bigger fight with Rocky? He was playing the long game the whole time! Also I think this movie is by far Talia Shires best work. She really got to shine in this script. I won't ruin anything for you in Rocky 6. It is my least favorite I guess, (after all, Nothing Hits Harder Than Life. Still worth watching) but I'll save why I'm not crazy for it later. 😎👍❤️
Wow you really go in depth with these afterthoughts videos on your watched movies. Do you do horror movies ? As it is nearly Halloween it would be great if you could do Fright Night.
Yeah, you know, just my afterthoughts. Glad you like it. We haven't done horror too much, but we'll do some down the road. We did "28 Days Later" (th-cam.com/video/cIvq_sorvT8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FySQpUt-78FtSTP1). Now we gotta get done with Rocky first and then maybe Creed 1 and 2. I put "Fright Night" on our list. Thx! (:
I never understood why this movie has received so much hate. It has some of the best acting and scenes out of the whole series. The flash back with Mickey may be my favorite scene from the whole series.
It is very good for a fifth installment of a franchise because if you really stop and think about it the 5th movie of most franchises aren’t good at all so if you look at it in that lenses Rocky V is pretty good
Yeah, agreed! I guess the reasons could be what I mentioned in my "Afterthoughts" video, but someone else made a good point as well, saying that people thought this was the LAST Rocky movie and they didn't feel complete. Now, after R6 came out peeps are a bit more chill about it! (:
Hi Mike, I too find Rocky 5 to be a very good movie with a lot of great take-home messages. Perhaps a solid training montage that pumps everybody up, which is a hallmark of the series up to 4, is the missing thing in 5, but in the context of the story, this cannot happen. This could be something that some fans can see as a let down. To me there is a parallel between the rather general dislike expressed for Rocky 5 and that for The Godfather 3. Both movies are quite good but each in its on way wraps up a formidable movie series. Unlike for the Godfather 3, there has been a follow-up to Rocky 5, which for many with hindsight can be seen as an important transition to the events that unfold in 6. Looking very much forward to Rocky 6 with you and the ever brilliant Jessica as well as to the Creed movies (the 2 first are great, but the 3rd is up to you both - and there is a reason why). By the way, speaking of the Godfather, I'd be surprised if you had never watched this monument of cinema, but if you have not yet, I believe you should, not only for you two, but for us your followers as another great treat 🎉
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on all that. I see where you are coming from. Currently editing R6. Then probably watching C1 and C2, not crazy about watching C3 without Stallone. Godfather is on the list, but I saw that it is over 3 hours long... Could take over a week to edit, but it's on our list. Thx! (:
@@BossMovieReactions Thanks for the good news regarding R6! As for C3, indeed that was the point I implied. But C1 and C2 are definitely worth it. Turning to the Godfather, yes the editing may require a lot of time and thinking given the high quality and standards of the youtube videos you produce. No rush though. This future work will appear neither too early nor too late but precisely when it is meant to (if I may borrow words from the most famous wizard around). I'll try and find means to better support your work. Best wishes to you both.
I agree with you the movie was full of great moment and was well written but I also view this as the worst out of the 5 you have watched to date. I certainly wouldn't say it's not worth the watch because we need to see the progression of Rocky's life and it is important for the next films. Glad you loved this movie! ❤
I still got that feeling in this movie . Rocky did what he needed to do and what he wanted to do in the end . Just like he did in every other film . Cant wait for the next!! Then the Creeds! I refused to watch Creed3 cause Rocky said he didn’t want it made and he wasn’t going to watch it either . The only film he had nothing to do with. He felt Creed 2 had the perfect ending for his Histioric Franchise ! I Agree!! No Creed 3 for Rocky then No Creed 3 for Me..
Honestly, that's how I feel about Creed 3 too. And I think many others do as well. If we watch the Creed movies it's because of Stallone and no one else. (:
This movie actually humanized Rocky in my opinion ❤❤❤ I know he is human in the others but he is broke and trying to live through Tommy Gun😮 the story really makes you see another side which I respect❤❤Stalone is a fantastic writer ❤❤❤❤
As usual great afterthoughts. This movies dislike reminds me a bit like the Solo Star Wars story. I just don’t get the hate. For me this movie harps back to the original in the sense where Micky is telling Rocky about the dirty side of the business and this one shows it. I’m sure you’re already working on the next one but remember to include the deleted scene. I don’t think you two have gotten into the Rambo character and if not you really should watch and will enjoy First Blood. Even if you decide to not continue through all of them, the first one is a must. After that it does become kind of generic action movies and they are fun but First Blood really is a good story. Cliffhanger is a cool Stallone flick. See you in Rocky 6. I was surprised by two edits you left out, first where the girl tells Robert that he has a nice butt and at the end where Robert yells out He Took My Room. Two light hearted moments. People ate too short sided and narrow minded is the reason I think they don’t care for it. With this many Rocky movies, it just can’t be the same formula over and over. If it did, then people may have grown tired and not liked it as much for that reason.
Hi James, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yeah, as you know, I don't get the hate either. Yes, R6 is coming (I didn't see any deleted scenes) and Rambo is on our list. Oh, also, yes, good observation about the two moments I didn't include. I didn't like them. I don't think it's a "thing" that Italians don't have good butts (it just seemed awkward to me, and Tommy didn't "take" his room, it was offered to him). ((:
@@BossMovieReactions I just thought those moments were funny. There is definitely the deleted scene available on TH-cam. Look up Rocky balboa Paulie misses Adrian deleted scene. It will make you cry. There are a couple of deleted scenes but this one is the best and gives insight into Paulie.
Check out The Day the Earth Stood Still and The thing both released in (1951) The War of the Worlds (1953), THEM! (1954), and Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Forbidden Planet (1956).
paulie sticking up for rocky and getting punched by a heavyweight champion, was paulie's most redeeming moment in the franchise. paulie presented the "tax extension" to rocky for his signature, its rocky who didnt read it before signing, therefore paulie did not directly bankrupt them. people find this film to be a downer despite the fact that , unlike most other rocky films, there is no death in this one. burgess meredith came in to shoot these "flashbacks", which were not part of any earlier film. rocky beat up tommy 3 times ! given that in 2 cases , tommy attacked him from behind when rocky thought the fight was over. tommy morrison was even worse in real life than he was in this film, and the only good thing i have to say about him is how convincing he was as a scumbag in this movie. i wish people who like the real boxer, would give more emphasis to the more tragic death of sage stallone, and get their R.I.P"s straight. sly's original script called for his own death in the street fight, but the studio convinced him that he couldnt kill off the icon he had created. stallone has called this his "least favorite" rocky film, which haters of the movie use in the form of "stallone even admitted it sucks", um, no he DIDNT. i suspect that ,like me, you will feel that 5 is better than 6, regardless of the community feeling that 6 is much better. many people seem to just need their needs from a rocky film. you MUST continue with the last 2 movies that feature the rocky balboa character , creed 1 and 2. i havent seen creed 3, and dont care to, because stallone wasnt even asked if he'd like to be in it. creed 1 is as good as rocky 6 and creed 2 is as good as almost ANY rocky film.
I enjoyed all the Rocky's reactions, the best on TH-cam ☺Thank you. This maybe off Rocky topic but another amazing movie would love to see reaction and your thoughts on *A Beautiful Mind* a Ron Howard film, award winning for best picture. It's an amazing film and actors, you will know why and won't be disappointed. Love from Canada 💖🍁
the things i didnt like and still dont like about this one is the music, the tommy character, and the don king type promotor character. cant wait for the next one.
@@Jon-o1q7z as sad as it is, from the directors cut of Rocky IV, just before Apollo goes out to the second round against Drago, Apollo says “If you’re my friend Rock!! please don’t stop this fight” and it’s emotional because of friendship, because of what’s about to happen, and it’s first time since Rocky III Apollo calls Rocky “Rock” but in friendship way

This entry actually proves what a winning formula the Rocky series created. Rocky V focused on Rocky as a man and a father. A vital addition to this enduring saga.
Glad you enjoyed it. We all have unique perspectives. I will not be joining you on your reaction. I watched it way back when and thought it was a bad movie. Unfortunately the movies just continue to be bad going forward. Too many better movies to invest your time and energy into. Catch you on a different vine. Cheers!
At some point it’s just all too unbelievable. In IV, we are supposed to believe that the Russian crowd, in Russia, turned are their own guy during the fight because they were so inspired by Rocky? In V the acting by Tommy Morrison was so bad, it just ruined the movie for me. In VI, we are supposed to believe that an old beaten down fighter can beat the current heavyweight champion of the world? 1,2 and 3 were all very believable and that’s what help make them great. Rocky and Rocky III are 2 of my favorite movies of all time. Big fan of First Blood too, but Last Blood was terrible. John Rambo would never walk into a situation without a plan. I hate the way that movie ended. Ridiculous! 🤬

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hear you, and I see where you are coming from. Cheers! (:
Great reaction! As i said before underated movie! I ranked Rocky 5 third favorite on a good day! The only thing i think that push this movie abit down is too much of kid scenes and Tommy wasent a good actor..hell of a fighter in real life.. Rip Tommy and Sage!!
Ou i forgot.. the music was abit cheesy.
Yes, we just watched it yesterday! Wow! (:
I think in order to feel it properly you should know befor part 6.
that the audience in vegas
was there to watch a real heavyweight championship fight.
the scenes for rocky 6 was filmed befor the real fight starts.
therefore the emotions, cheering, et cetera wasnt scripted betwen the boxingfans and the actors in this scenes.
YES, I just read about that yesterday! Great stuff! Thx! (:
Just imagine, you're going to a boxing event and end up watching a real (scripted) fight of Rocky himself... 🤩
I never thought 5 was awful. Its just my least favorite of all the series. But it does have some touching moments especially the Mick scene. Your analysis make me like the film a bit more. Some great points.
Well, I'm so happy to hear that! Cheers! (:
Rocky 5 is great exactly what the series needed.
Yeah, I thought so too (as you know). (:
Great wrap-up, Boss!
Thank you, Batman!! (:
I really liked this movie. It’s not so popular but I liked it. It was different. We got to see another side of the story. If he fought in the ring again it would be like all the other endings. Him fighting in the street was important. It’s where he started before he got trained. He didn’t fight for the money or publicity. Plus if he fought in the ring it would be making everyone else rich.
Exactly! That's how I saw it as well (as you know). (:
Yes, I totally agree with you! And yes, I absolutely noted the manipulation by Duke! 100%. (:
Thanks for your thoughts.
You got it, LB. Love to see that #4 next to your name. THANK YOU!! (:
Mike you literally got emotional at the very beginning I don’t blame you tho that opening was sad and rough
Yes, sad and rough indeed! And great acting! Thanks for watching!
@@NycilSikiclas Thank you so much, we greatly appreciate your support! (:
I agree with you the movie was full of great moment and was well written but I also view this as the worst out of the 5 you have watched to date. I certainly wouldn't say it's not worth the watch because we need to see the progression of Rocky's life and it is important for the next films. Glad you loved this movie! ❤
Yeah, agreed! (:
Yes, Marlaina, I agree with your assessment! There's a lot to like about R5. See you soon for Rocky Balboa!! (:
@@BossMovieReactions Rocky Balboa will require a lot of tissues
@@marlainalindsey3279 Yes, tissues were needed indeed! (:
When you are done with 6 can you give us your list from worst to best. I’m always curious about how people see these movies
Yes, I'll try, especially if you remind me. (:

Thx, I added the ones that weren't on our list already! (:
paulie sticking up for rocky and getting punched by a heavyweight champion, was paulie's most redeeming moment in the franchise. paulie presented the "tax extension" to rocky for his signature, its rocky who didnt read it before signing, therefore paulie did not directly bankrupt them. people find this film to be a downer despite the fact that , unlike most other rocky films, there is no death in this one. burgess meredith came in to shoot these "flashbacks", which were not part of any earlier film. rocky beat up tommy 3 times ! given that in 2 cases , tommy attacked him from behind when rocky thought the fight was over. tommy morrison was even worse in real life than he was in this film, and the only good thing i have to say about him is how convincing he was as a scumbag in this movie. i wish people who like the real boxer, would give more emphasis to the more tragic death of sage stallone, and get their R.I.P"s straight. sly's original script called for his own death in the street fight, but the studio convinced him that he couldnt kill off the icon he had created. stallone has called this his "least favorite" rocky film, which haters of the movie use in the form of "stallone even admitted it sucks", um, no he DIDNT. i suspect that ,like me, you will feel that 5 is better than 6, regardless of the community feeling that 6 is much better. many people seem to just need their needs from a rocky film. you MUST continue with the last 2 movies that feature the rocky balboa character , creed 1 and 2. i havent seen creed 3, and dont care to, because stallone wasnt even asked if he'd like to be in it. creed 1 is as good as rocky 6 and creed 2 is as good as almost ANY rocky film.
Thank you so much for the extra information. Good stuff. Yes, I think C1 and C2 will happen. Thx! (:
I enjoyed all the Rocky's reactions, the best on TH-cam ☺Thank you. This maybe off Rocky topic but another amazing movie would love to see reaction and your thoughts on *A Beautiful Mind* a Ron Howard film, award winning for best picture. It's an amazing film and actors, you will know why and won't be disappointed. Love from Canada 💖🍁
Thank you, Gaia, we appreciate it. Yes, "A Beautiful Mind" is indeed on our list! Thx! (:
the things i didnt like and still dont like about this one is the music, the tommy character, and the don king type promotor character. cant wait for the next one.
The next one is coming! Just watched it yesterday! (:
I agree the music wasn't Rocky. I still like the movie.
Rocky 5 suffers from being a great movie crammed in between a bunch of Epic movies.
Rocky 5 may be my least favorite Rocky movie but I still love it.
Exactly, still great!! (:
Any idea when the Rocky 6 reaction is dropping? I can't wait!

What’s your fav rocky moment
@@Jon-o1q7z as sad as it is, from the directors cut of Rocky IV, just before Apollo goes out to the second round against Drago, Apollo says “If you’re my friend Rock!! please don’t stop this fight” and it’s emotional because of friendship, because of what’s about to happen, and it’s first time since Rocky III Apollo calls Rocky “Rock” but in friendship way

This entry actually proves what a winning formula the Rocky series created. Rocky V focused on Rocky as a man and a father. A vital addition to this enduring saga.
Agreed! (:
Glad you enjoyed it. We all have unique perspectives.
I will not be joining you on your reaction. I watched it way back when and thought it was a bad movie. Unfortunately the movies just continue to be bad going forward. Too many better movies to invest your time and energy into. Catch you on a different vine. Cheers!
No problem. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, though. (:
No love for Rocky 6?
Have you seen Rocky 6? It is a sensation, bringing back all the emotion and greatness of 1 and 2.
Ridiculous! 🤬
