Just recently got my Motif XF7. Oh my god!! First of all the sound. Geez! I have been watching youtube vids for months now, but NO video can show you how good it sounds. The first sound i tested was the Natural Grand Piano. I think i played just with that sound for 30 minutes. Only 1600 more to go ;) After just a couple of ours i had made a little song in the sequenzer. It is such an incredible inspiration to search trough the different sounds. And each sound is precision. I opted for the Kronos X 88. My choice was based on the fact that in 2001 I bought a Triton Pro X & a Motif 6 (still have them). I preferred the Triton. So this time I couldn't afford both & it was only 1 or the other. I'm sure the Motif Xf is a great keyboard, but I've always been partial to Korg. (had Poly 800, M1, T1, O1/W, Trinity, Triton). Soon (in a few months) I will be buying another keyboard & my choice is between the Motif XF, Kurzweil Pc3K & Roland Integra 7. It's a hard choice.
Consider the economy and the workstation competition (especially Open Labs products). In this day & age, every sound from every workstation should sound detailed & realistic; no excuses. Lcukily, Yamaha's new presets sound wonderful (on the demos), especially, the oak kit & the combo organs. I've seen others complain about the price point, but I think it's consistent with previous Motifs. IMO, the XF is aesthetically gorgeous. Good job, Yamaha, and good job on the demo.
“Motif XS have 384mb sampling waveform... you know...” I love it when Katsonori San speaks in his native Japanese, but his English is really endearing.
All of this arguing back and forth between Yamaha Motif and Korg Kronos seems so redundant. Both are great keyboards. Just go out and play your ass off on either machine and live your life to the fullest.
Motif XF has very nice sample set onboard, no doubt about that, and the flash memory is very good idea (same concept started with SY99 and EX5, when you loaded samples, and they would stay in memory even if the instrument is turned off). However, it'd be so nice to see FM engine (like on the SY99) and AN and VL engines (like on the EX5). The two articulation buttons is something that comes from home keyboard market (Tyros) and it doesn't feel that expressive actually. I'd rather have FM for that expressiveness, because sampling, as much as it is realistic note-to-note, the performance can be lagging in realism. Having said that, Motif keyboards have excellent mulitmode filters and synthesizer programming capabilities. I guess, one can't have everything. So, still, the combination of SY99+EX5+Motif XF7 would be a good setup to have all of Yamaha technologies. VP1 engine would've been fantastic, but that's obviously not realistic to ask.
@TheLeonski well i dont own a motif but, i dont think you are able to stream audio from the motif using a usb cable... you will need to connect your motif to the computer through analog 1/4 cables.. and if you do not have an external audio interface for your computer you can use the built in sound card but you will need a "Y" cable that has 1/8" stereo on one end and two mono 1/4"(phono left and right) on the other

the expression of voices especially saxophones and sounds and patterns of 'live' drums is amazing. How close does motif xf comes to tyros in terms of sounds especially drums, brass, woodwinds, basses and acoustic guitars ? I listened to demos of motif xf and checked it out at the store, but found it falling way behind tyros 5. ( workstations used to be ahead of arranger keyboards few years ago but now it seems vise verse )
Tod Ltx thats y i bought a psr s770 little brother of tyros 5... and it has nice voices and super articulated sounds and live sounds.. but ofcourse the psr is an arranger and motif is a workstation so they are both different
@theapex81 IMO, 65% of the wave rom is consumed by the built in arpeggios and phrase generator. the rest were like new presets and good sounding pianos. :-)
$2,500 for a new Motif XF6. The only difference between the 6, 7 & 8 is the number of keys. (sounds/engine are the same) If you get lucky on Ebay, you could probably pick up an used, FX6 for around $1,700.
Yep, bought the XF8, along with HS80M's and a HS10W. Should be a total eargasm. And I'm nowhere NEAR this guys' level lol...I just want to make trance, happy hardcore, and dubstep.
There is difference in what is speed and what is having better performance. I was talking about the speed. Try to make that difference before sending any stupid comments. Still the technology is from the stone age...:o)) They should start using FireWire800.

I think this keyboard is designed for Live Performance pretty convenient. It's much more easier than Fantom Roland series, and of cause better than Motif XS indeed.
@Drajfovic Um, USB2 is 480 MB/s peak, not sustained. FW400 sweeps the floor with USB2. And have you calculated how much data you can transfer over FW400, and how many channels those are?

I check this one out at sam ash today..... great keyboard!!!! the only thing I did not really like is the key bed. the keys feel too soft. I guess is a matter of taste but, I wish they would put a keys like the legendary Korg M1 had... which by the way had a key bed made by Yamaha. but over all this motif rocks... plus that flash option is amazing... I just hope it does not take 2 minutes to boot up when you have all that memory installed and filled with samples.
I have Korg Triton Pro X w/EXB-MOSS (analog modeling board) installed & a Yamaha Motif6 w/PLG150-AN ((analog modeling board) installed. I also have a Korg Kronos X 88. The advancement in technology & sounds, from he Triton to the Kronos, is huge & noticeable. But from what I hear, the difference between the Motif 6 & XF is a bit less pronounced. Yamaha needs to make a totally, new, keyboard & they also need to get back into analog modeling. (XF has no expansion ports) XF does sound great though.
Listening to this demo again, I can't find any XF patch that sounds less good than even the newer Korg Kronos X. Strings, piano, brasses, guitar, all is clearly better on the XF. But why is it still so expensive !!

Since this has the same S6 piano sound like the one in the Yamaha S70xs, does it still have the same harmonic problem found on the S70xs on the lower C, C#, D and Eb notes?!

Can you use flash to load wavs from a hardrive and sequence them in ur tracks. I wanna add my own drums. Is there a way to create a userkit of all ur sounds and make beats/quantize/edit them the way you want?
Can you do a demo on the new Yamaha Tyros 4. Im thinking about trading in my Clavinova CVP-207 for one. It seems to have all that the CVP-509 has and more just not in the fancy cabinet.
The only way to convince you is that you convince your self. Suppose you have an computer with greate CPU's performance (Dont use craipe laptops) 1 - Download USB2 hi-speed with "good quality" (dont use the default ones as every one does for testing purposes...:-))..everything is the in good quality of the USB2 driver. 2 - Install driver and activate for hi-speed. 3 - Connect directly source to target (Dont use hubs in between since you will loose bandwith)

One of the best workstations, just keeps getting better. No, not bells and whistles, just practical useable updates for serious musicians .

Always wanted a Yamaha Motif. Only Synthesizer I have is the MicroKorg I use that for Playing Talkbox with.
Smaller screen and no pads like on the Fantom G but the black color is a welcome look and it sounds great. Just might have to get one.

Well done but the lack of polyphony will arrive when layering especially pads with several layers. I do prefer 256 voices polyphony instruments.
