Man big Lew,I luv it. I luv it because it's yours, it's different from everyone else. I can relate to the extra long screws, the exhaust lid and the ash pan. Usin what you have and making it work, also taking household items and using them in the garage...😂😂😂. Good job...👍. I wanna get started on another 1,but wanna learn how to weld 1st. Thx again...
@@BigLewBBQ I have never made an attempt at it,but by summer's end I will be good. With that being said I think we both do pretty good with nuts and bolts...👍
BIG STEVE'S SMOKEM & CHOKEM BBQ Thanks. Up until my eye surgery in July 2018 I was near sited. My excuse for the “C” grade to my parents was that my glasses would fog up under the welding helmet and I couldn’t see. The next school year I had contact lenses.
Maybe you should be a Rock Band Manager too Big Lew! The drum went from ugly to a princess! I like the hanger grate invention. Yall stay safe over there!
BBQ PIT DOG The rib hanger works well. I’m glad my UDS is “Back in Black”. I saw my rusty drum and I wanted to be black, no colors anymore I wanted it to be black, I wanted to see it painted, painted, painted black. So I had to “Paint It Black”. I had referenced both of those song in the section where I painted it. But alas I cut the sequence for time this video was quite long enough. The other Stones and AC/DC references would have made more sense if I hadn’t of cut the paint sequence.
Hey Big Lew. Thank you for the information. It's very helpful. I'm planning on ordering the side vent for my UDS. I built it last year, and I installed the two long pipes as well. It works good, but I think it will be better with the large sliding vent. I did make a mistake last year. Since I live in Northern Illinois (originally from the Rio Grande Valley), we get a lot of snow in the winter, and I messed up and didn't season my ugly beast. So I just finished removing the built up rust, and it looks more like a beautiful ugly smoker. I also just gave it an inside bath with canola oil and fired it up to season, but one thing I don't know is, do I need to season it before every smoke? Muchas gracias por toda la informacion. By the way, I like the ¿Como están USD? - Jose Nieto
You done good using up some valuable time off. It's ALIVE ~!~! I like the way you made your meat hanger. Yea, go ahead and spring for that new charcoal basket. Like the new intake slide vent. Can't wait to see those ribs. Be safe and keep away from Corona.
Phil N Florence I’m going to get a fabricated basket. This one that I made three years ago was made from expanded metal that used to be the cooking grate I had on a cinder block barbecue pit that I made in 2006 and used until I moved in 2014. It’s got week spots. But it still works for now.
Bruce West I originally built this three years for about $165 that included 30 bucks for the drum. I made it with all hardware store parts and stuff I already had around the house and in my shed. I wish I had ordered this slide vent at the time. It would have been cheaper than the hardware store plumbing parts that I had previously used for the intake. UDS Parts has kits that start as low as $85. Hind site is 20/20 if I was starting over from scratch I would order the kit.
...is it a 55 or 30 gallon drum ? ....I made mine using a 30.....made it to burn any kind of fuel , wood , briqs , lump all of it...3 vents at the bottom 2.5 x 7 6 inch exhaust pipe necks down to 5 and 4 inch.....the drum is UN approved it's a shipping container...much heavier/thicker steel holds the heat better....from Dallas Drum west of you....good luck Lew...ww...
Well shoot that looks good Big Lew! I’m not super handy but I think i can figure that out and something I want to do. It’s looking really good and great video. Hope y’all have a great week!
you all probably dont care at all but does anyone know a tool to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@@BigLewBBQ I didn't really refurbish it, I just cleaned out the inside and SENT IT! But here is the first video of me cooking on it again from late last year. th-cam.com/video/nzh8ZbIgHYM/w-d-xo.html
Great video Lew. I'm gonna go to uds.com and get some parts because I'm gonna add another UDS to my collection, I have two now. One is a regular drum and my XL is 6' tall. Thanks for the video it's gonna be very useful.
Robert Harris No, not at all I had this UDS prior to getting my BHC. Now that it has been announced that BHC has purchased by PBC I’ll probably use it on camera more. I didn’t use it much on camera in 2019 because Barrel House seemed to be in limbo. I used it for home cooks though.
Good video. Thanks Big Lew. I recently got a used barrel and just had all paint and rust inhibitor sandblasted off. Ready for paint. I really like the slide intake damper. I think it looks great and keeps it simple. Waiting for parts. My first build. 👍🏼😎🔥👊🏼
Good information! Fun to watch

In 1984-1985, I made a "C" in a high school welding class. I haven't welded since. I regret it now. I too would like to learn to weld.

Hey Big Lew. Go you like the daisy wheel on top? Does it seal good?
It seals well enough to shut it down. Made that myself from an old nine inch aluminum pot lid.
Are you gonna retire your BHS?
