Most people can learn sax in about 1-2 months to learn from a basic level. I'm no muso, I came at this as an intermediate guitar of 6 years playing. Now im six months down the rabbit hole and truly now understand that to master a sax is a different level but such a fun challenge. im so happy with my progress

As someone how has been actively engaged with saxophones and saxophonists for more than fifty years I can confirm that the instrument is in fact the easiest instrument to learn to play. Playing the instrument is one thing but playing it so that others enjoy listening is quite another matter. No instrument including the most expensive, the most expensive mouthpiece and reed can assure a beautiful sound. There are just a handful of saxophonists who have managed fortuitously to produce a sound that has quite rightly earned them the admiration and respect, fame and fortune that has been showered upon them. There are possibly an infinite number of considerations, factors and circumstances that have contributed to the total success of these few instrumentalists the most important being the total of anatomical features dental , oral, lingual, larynx etc etc with which these favored few have been blessed with. I myself despite the very best and most expensive being available to me just will never be able to achieve even the shadow of the greatness of the Greats.

I bought a trumpet last year, but returned it as I struggled a lot with getting a decent sound out of it. I had trouble getting the correct embouchure. Maybe it was my mouth or my teeth, I am not sure, but man that instrument is hard to learn! I also think I was lacking strength in my chin muscles. I bought an Akai EWI Solo instead "cheating" with digital sampled sounds by just blowing and biting the mouth piece to create a vibrato. Now you have convinced me to buy a sax as I think it would be easier for me to learn. As I can´t spend a lot of money, will a $300 sax be something to start to learn on? Any suggestion for that price range? I know the sound will be better for more expensive sax, but I don´t want to spend a lot of money first. Maybe buying a sax that I can afford to start learning and then buy a better one later. I produce a lot of music and I can add some reverb in post production etc.

Thank you for this video. I wanted to play the saxophone but the band director at my school wouldn't allow me to unless I played clarinet for a year. I was a young 6th grader so this led me to go a different path and play the trumpet. I played it for 7 years and liked it, but it just became. too difficult for me to play the high notes. I never could figure out how to get my lips to do what I wanted them to do and eventually quit the instrument my junior year.
I am 36 now and often wish I could play the saxophone. I am glad I found this channel and maybe it can help me start to teach myself the instrument.

Sax is definitely super easy to pick up. The worst part is simply not wrecking your reed, which isn't too hard.
But it gets sooo hard from there. It's easy to play the notes, but breath support and tone take a long time to develop, and that's still ignoring overtones and altissimo

Does it hurt or tickle your teeth? I come from upright bass and piano and wand to get into sax

Musical instruments are not a big thing in my country. It’s extremely hard to find a tutor and there’s no musical institutes. I’ve always wanted to play the saxophone and if i finally decide to get my own it’s gonna be a journey I’m gonna take on my own. Which is why I’m so hesitant 😕

Hi Hammoudeh, it depends on where / who you learn with! If you’d like to learn more about music theory I’ve created a free 3 part course that might interest you. Watch the first video here: th-cam.com/video/J3g5ZZA9-D0/w-d-xo.html

thank you so much. I am looking to get a sax, I am leaning towards Tenor; TS710, TB600, OTS800 or the SET400. Could you help with recommendations?

My pleasure! I haven't actually played any of those saxophones specifically so unfortunately I can't give any recommendations for those particular models, but in general, I like to recommend the Yamaha saxophones (particularly second hand YTS-23, YTS-26 and YTS-100) as being the best overall value and quality for beginners. Here's another video that might help in your purchasing decision!

Hi, Is there anything I can do to practise sax without a sax? Ik this is kinda dumb, but I need to save up to get one (P.S I'm learning bamboo flute to begin with, as it is comparatively cheaper)

I’ve got a trumpet, and it’s really hard to learn it, I can play the guitar, piano and drums, but the trumpet just seems like something too difficult for me to play, is the saxophone like a lot easier than a trumpet or no?
