These Longines Chronoscope episodes are great! True time capsules.I enjoy the announcer's smoothly elegant phrasing. Thanks so much for posting these shows.
This was 1952. Russell is described as one of the candidates for Pres for the Democratic Party. Also reference is made to the current administration being Democratic. The year Eisenhower ran and won but Truman was still in charge.
Never mind the famous (or perhaps infamous) “daisies” political ad. Barry Goldwater was no loon. He was a thoughtful, highly intelligent public servant who served this country with distinction. He also just happened to get crushed by a man who, ironically enough, had a war bring his presidency to a premature end.
The Dems also had JW Fulbright (D-Ark) -so-called big hero of the anti-Vietnam War left, who was a consistent opponent of all civil rights legislation.

Russell actually got 268 delegates, placing second on the first ballot of voting
This coming Sunday watch the Jack Benny show on the CBS Television Network.
Thanks for the heads-up. I’m a big fan of the Benny show - Jack, Mary, Dennis, Rochester, and Don Wilson.
Rest in Peace Sir Richard Russell and Sir Strom Thurmond 🥰🥰😊😊😊
So this is 1953. Russell was a conservative Democrat. He gave Liberals fits!!!
Senator Russel was behind school lunches, he thought Goldwater was a loon. He was moderate but in no way a conservative.
1952--Russell was running for President.

Precursor to Face The Nation.

Sen Russell was a good man.....
He was if you're white.
Yeah and Barack Obama isn't? Go tell it to someone who isn't informed!!!!
Uh, yeah. He was an aggressive segregationist as well, so he probably gave any sane observer fits.
LBJ was just as a big of racist as Russell was, and more powerful too.
