The way he watches her through the forest to keep an eye on her and you watch him fall in love with her from the moment he lays eyes on her the first time. I immediately start crying the moment he touches his fathers shoulder to silently tell him he's going after her. Every moment of his love for her was a silent but powerful scene; just beautiful! Her choice to be with him breaks me every time I watch this movie and I cry every time even though I know it's going to happen. Very talented director to relay such passion and love for someone without a single word. That's movie making done excellent!! Although it was tragic how they both died; I always imagine that the instant she landed she was already in his arms in heaven just like she was behind the waterfall when he snatched her from jumping off the ledge. GREAT MOVIE!! All of the actors were so perfect, it's one of my most beloved films! If you haven't seen it, FIND IT AND WATCH IT!!!
I remember thinking when I watched this movie for the first time, and saw Uncas, that he was too beautiful to survive to the end of the movie. His connection and gentleness towards Alice was so moving.
This was me & my husband’s favorite movie to watch together. When he was killed in Baghdad in 2005, as soon as I was informed of his death, this scene flashed thru my eyes/heart & I understood all the more about true love. I get it completely. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
The death scene of this pair still bring brings me to tears no matter how many times l see it. He tries so hard to save her... my favorite part of this entire film is the payback his father gets. His father dispatches them all with such finesse and never have l been more satisfied at a film villains ending. Simply beautifully done, and the music opened the floodgates in my heart. I still to this day have difficulty watching the movie because of that specific part.. so heart wrenching..
I still cry every time I watch this scene, too. Theirs is one of the most poignant love stories I've seen on film. And all without one word said between them. (Sigh!)
Which makes you wish he would have just held off until his Dad and brother caught up to him before he attacked. Chances are they all would have survived.
This was the most heartbreaking yet most beautiful moments of the film. Their love transcended language, culture, time. Their souls found each other in life and will be together in death. Good Lord I'm sappy with this but Alice and Uncas story was just so moving to me in this film. I love this song too, it's beautiful.😎👍
I was in my early twenties and in University when this movie came out. I fell head over heels for Eric Schweig, as did most of the other Indigenous women in my class and in the Aboriginal student lounge. He was gorgeous. This was a beautiful subtle romance.
I can see why you had crushes. Crushes on his character as well as his fine appearance. I thought the girl was too frail looking to go through the ordeal at all. The men could but she seemed too weak to not collapse .
There was brief scene where Alice is on the ledge and Wes Studi’s character motions her to comeback. I think that was the only time his character showed compassion. I also like the idea of Alice having an off camera moment with Uncas by the waterfall.
So much was going on that they didn’t have time to get to know each other but there was respect. I like to imagine they would have lived peacefully together.
Yes it was Cora and Uncas the tragic romance and Hayward (who was very different!!) with Alice who both survived I think. Hawkeye was a much older character.
I watched the movie in the cinemas when it came out and ended up crying so much that I couldn't watch the rest of the movie. The moment she jumped after Uncas was it and I sat there ugly crying. My husband couldn't get it, and he still doesn't. I've only watched the movie once afterwards to actually see the end, and the same thing happened. It's just such a viceral moment. I saw him grab her away from the waterfall, and then he ran up the mountain... but her face when she saw him fall was heartbreaking. My husband bought a copy of the dvd for me as a pms joke, and I've never watched it. Then you go and do this and I'm crying again! At first I thought she jumped because he'd died, but then I realized she jumped because she had no hope left. No hope, and her eyes reflected this before she jumped. This small little love story was better than the one the movie was about. I can't even tell you what happened to the others. All this to say, thank you, I loved the video and I shall watch it again when I need to ugly cry.
Well it was a way to have the book sort of play out closer than the way the end of this movie version needed because the movie gave us a more modern, romantic pov than the book to appeal for audience couples on a date and female viewers. I do wish there had been a little more scenes between them than longing wide eyed looks though. A sort of moment where she wasn't so much a damsel in distress and psych case, but where she did something meaningful for Uncas that he knew of that showed a mutual respect and understanding to know why they bonded and maybe if she had shown him more expression after he fought so valiantly to rescue her and before he died then it would be more satisfying. She is a very good actress and just needed a little more direction for me because Uncas was the real last Mohican...he was the one meant to have a family and carry on being the son of and a real Mohican, not adopted. He knew he had a duty and yet threw it away in a sense. It was very Romeo and Juliet in a way because they might've succeeded had they planned it out and waited.
The moment Uncas realizes he's F'd up and has met a warrior with superior skills....they both look at each other, knowingly....broke my heart even BEFORE the jump. Great director/actors/cinematography
I wish that relationship could have played out but then it wouldn't be the movie it was. Every move he made was off the charts. Great directing and editing.
Still a favorite!! This is the film that made me realize as a kid that you can convey a lot of meaning with subtle gestures. The way Uncas would look at Alice and the small (and not so small!) things he did…*sigh*. I totally had a crush on him!! I always felt like there was more that happened between them that we sadly didn’t get to see. And I like to think he put that little braid in her hair while they were hiding in the waterfall, and it signified an attachment between them. (How’s that for reading into things!😉)
I will always remember this movie. It was my son's favorite. We even went to a place it was filmed. Oh how he loved it. He has only some Indian blood 8n him but that did not matter to him. He loved it.
I went to The theater to see and was completely spellbound by the beauty in this film and the silence. No other film matches it, in this category. Perfect casting and the perfect filming locations. I wish that the people in Hollywood could again make a movie that's wonderful but sadly most of the great storytellers in Hollywood have come and gone.
According to Eric Schweig, the director cut out their love scene as well as other scenes between them because he thought their romance detracted from the romance between Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeline Stowe. Eric strongly felt the deleted scenes between him and Alice should have been left in. I think a lot of people agree.
this couple was the most poignant thing in the whole film for me. gorgeous, moving music throughout the movie, but the moments uncas died and then alice leapt were when i actually cried.

Oh my God! My heart started beating faster! Csingacsguk, Vadölő, and Unkasz and James Fenimore Cooper are the authors who commemorate the heroes of American history in an unforgettable book. I don't know how many times I read it as a child. And this movie is worthy of this story.
Such a heart wrenching scene. Yet it also showed the Indians proverb of the eyes. She looks straight at him as she took to her beloved to haunt him till the end of his days for killing her beloved. A strength of the divine feminine ❤
ce film etait magnifique musique histoire acteurs j ai vu cette histoire je ne sais plus combien de fois et j ai pleuré a chaque fois à la mort UNCAS et de ALICE ils étaient beaux tous les 2
I love this film. The storyline/s well put together. The brutality of war tempered with two love stories made this an epic movie. Despite past portrayals of Native Americans been savage hostiles (which has always been the case) I love it when the 'human' side is shown.
Love this movie. I didn't watch it when it first came out because I was little, but I lived and breathed the music. Years and years later I finally watched it and it's one of the most amazing films. Everything was executed so perfectly and the quiet moments between Uncas and Alice really captivated me, their last scene especially.

What can I say you said it beautifully.
I preferred the budding yet potent romance of this couple over the leads. Eric Schweig was the ultimate, beautiful and tragic hero.
Same .. I was so sad that they didn't get to love each other
Indeed he was.
Same!
Totally agree
I remember thinking when I watched this movie for the first time, and saw Uncas, that he was too beautiful to survive to the end of the movie. His connection and gentleness towards Alice was so moving.
I've been crushing on Uncas from the beginning.
Eric Shweig is the most beautiful man alive. Just my opinion. That movie is a classic, I watch it at least once a year.

He and Buck Tick's Atsushi Sakurai 🤷🏻♀️😎
Totally agreed !! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
I so agree!
Absolutely he is a remarkably handsome man .
Two amazing couples in this movie...BUT Alice and Uncas touched me more...felt so bad in ending...would have wanted their love bloom in life...
Last of the Mohicans , still one of the best movies ever!

Why is not broadcasted at TV stations???
The scene of Alice contemplating the jump was the most beautiful moment in the whole film. I held my breath until she was gone.
Even the fierce, vengeful Magau seems to have a change of heart 😢
Da brividi
Yeah that was brutal she would rather die with Unca then be alive with Magua
I was crying…wish there was more on these two…
Yes - at the end Alice was at peace with what she was about to do. Any other option was inconceivable 😢

This story within a story of Uncas and Alice is sad and yet a story of true love.
This scene broke my heart...Alice couldn't bear the thought of winding up with Uncas' killer...She chose to be with Uncas..😔
Eric is so handsome in this move. He is amazing.
I will forever fancy him ❤️

That was the love story in this novel. Unspoken. Beautiful

She didn't jump. She just moved into the open falling. Peacefully...no more danger or want of anything.
The music in this movie was ethereal.
My heart tore with Uncas..
I would've preferred this couple rather than the leads! ❤
Why is that? It is Hawkeye and Cora’s story.
True but it is still tragic about Uncas and Alice’s demise
Yess they left a memory 💞
