The Blackfeet Nation on the East side had traffic stopped into the Reservation when co-vid started. The west side doesn't border the Reservation and it is open but no exit to the east side. Great video, Russ. The Teepee building in Browning used to be a gas station way back in time. It was so neatly painted then, it's a shame they don't keep it up, its history. I used to ride with my truck driver Dad along all of Montana, each town you have visited brings back many memories for me. What is called Recreation Road was the old hiway before the interstate, wow, what a kick riding Montana hiways and biways with Russ this week. Townsend Kids here calling "Shotgun" as Russ drives along. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

I passed through Browning on my way to the Glacier Peaks Casino. It was not bad, but the casino floor was much smaller than depicted from the exterior. Having stayed 8 days at the Many Glacier Hotel and 3 days at the East Glacier Lodge, I was looking for some gambling action. The drive was very scenic and tranquil. The wide-open views are almost unbelievable and reminded me of a time long past and before modern settlements became established.

Hi 👋 Russ…I just recently found your channel and decided to watch your videos, in chronological order from the start of this channel. I’m still a few years out, to catching up; but jump ahead when you post a new video 😁So glad you drove through my neck of the woods, Glacier County, and my hometown Browning. Wow, if I knew back then I woulda invited you to a cup of coffee ☕️😊 Yep, your thought of the area in winter is right, it can be rough, with my little town (Browning) being cut off from the outside world a few times during the winter - due to all roads being shutdown down when those blizzards hit. See the highway road map, during storms and see the roads color coded in red (shutdown) all around Browning. Too bad you didn’t get to see the Museum Of The Plains Indian. The Bison 🦬 herd belongs to the Tribe, and that’s their summer pasture, near East Glacier. Good Luck 🍀 on your travels, and thank you for sharing all of it with us! I’ve seen some gorgeous country through your lenses..Yay! 😃 If you ever trek this way again - Glacier Country/GNP & Glacier County - I’ll treat you to a cup of coffee ☕️🙂
Safe Travels…oh btw…I think you need another Scooby 🐕

Hwy 2 flat as a pancake...just like eastern ND. Boy do those winds come down howling from the Rockies & Canadian provinces in the winter. Glad you're having such beautiful weather & blue skies with clean air (finally). Love seeing the potholes (at least that's what we called the ND land depressions filled with water) again & still filled with water for the migrating birds.
Have a request of you re storyboards. You always stop at them & they are very interesting to read. I pause my YT to try & read when you have a good shot of them. So, I'm wondering if you could show them face on so we can read them. You always have such awesome scenery & drone footage, the story boards would be the icing on the cake.
    Thank you so much.

Highway 2 goes two miles inside Glacier National park boundaries, southern tip of Park. Amtrak train goes right next to the highway. The railroad built the lodges in East Glacier. People stayed at the lodges 50 years ago or so, and still today people ride the Amtrak to West Glacier to stay in the lodges.

21:56 I've seen many a photograph of rail lines protected by snow sheds and shielded by snow fences, but East Glacier is the first time I've ever seen a trestle guarded by, what I take to be, a wind screen along its entire length. There must be some ferocious gales blowing through that part of the country come wintertime for the railroad to determine that a modern-day freight train needs help to keep it from being blown off the rails.

@@lisamcarthur3731 Thanks for the information, Lisa. What Russ is showing us on his videos leaves no doubt that Montana is one beautiful state at this time of year. Given what you wrote, however, something tells me that in maybe three-months time I'd be pointing my vehicle south and I wouldn't stop driving until the wind chill got UP to freezing temperature. Sounds like one needs to be a hardy individual to live there year-round; not sure I could cut it. Thanks again for the info tidbit. Take care and stay well.

the wind blows so hard the trains have been blown off the tracks numerous times. Semi's also get blown over off the road. It is not uncommon to have 70-100 mph force winds, so when there is loose snow on the ground it causes complete whiteout conditions.
