The under appreciating of LP2 might be the single biggest 'thing' in music for me, personally. This album is so unique, so mysterious, enigmatic, emotionally powerful, personal... It's an absolute crime that no one knows or appreciates it fully. It being rushed takes NOTHING away from how good it is. It's like an Arabic desert album, full of mystery and dreams

Listened to it again today and one little tidbit of information that might be interesting about the song Bucket Of Chicken is that it was originally titled The Crow. This is when it was up for the Crow soundtrack. When it was rejected they renamed it as a joke.
Dabbling in the original sdre community, talkin to fellow shoegoers in the 2023 & 2024 tours, many ppl favor LP2 oddly enough. Whatever legacy they made before is felt heavier now than ever before while their shows & sound is better than ever.
I saw Sunny Day in San Francisco, 1998, and they were incredible! I love the pink album and How It Feels, great band. They are touring as I write this.
Shoutout to the OG Connie. Never heard of this band, that alone will make this an interesting episode. Thanks for another show guys! Found out about you at some point in 2020 and glad I did.
I agreed with Mike for the rising tide being worse least fav. Then I saw them on the recent tour, and the set list was HEAVILY leaning on this album, and seeing those songs live changed me.
For the longest time I considered How It Feels to be my fav SDRE album. However about three weeks ago I listened to the rising tide with a friend and decided to re listen to their entire works. Diary just blew me away from that. All those long slow parts that I saw as dead album air I found to be used quite effectively.
tbh it never really sucked. a lot of bullshit just got called emo when it really wasn’t part of the genre. through all the years and mainstream and underground bands, there’s a common thread and it’s all great music, whether it’s rites of spring, sunny day, thursday, taking back sunday, or the newer bands like the hotelier, it’s always been good
SDRE is my favorite band of all time, so it's hard to say any of the albums are less than perfection. i wore out the black-cast casette tape of Diary by sub-pop in my car my senior year and the year after, playing it every day. LP2 is probably, artistically their best work, but The Rising Tide got better every time i listened to it, until i came to the conclusion that it is a masterpiece of songwriting and execution. The Fire Theft is a damn good album too, just something different like Jeremy's solo work. They dropped a new song in 2024 with a cool video. Check it out. Also they are still touring. I met Jeremy a few times in DFW in the late 90s and i think his smoking and maybe voice coach advise made him change what he was doing on the first two albums to something more sustainable.
I wonder? and only the man (Will) would know, why Dave re-recorded anything, but there's got to be some reason why? I met Buzz, isn't he a movie starlet?

I let out an audible cheer when Mike claimed LP2 as his best/personal favorite

saw them live three times in their current iteration, they sound absolutely incredible
Completely agree with you both. LP2 and How It Feels are equals to me but for completely different reasons.

Sunny Day Real Estate is one of the all-time great emo bands. Highly recommended.

Sunny day touring with Nirvana wouldn't have been that weird. Jawbreaker and Teenage fanclub played with Nirvana.
Godspeed gentlemen. Eternal wealth and life in the coming cyberpolis to both of you. Your help will be needed.
Love it. Thank you.

I was in high school during the time when sunny day came out. This will always be how I imagine emo to be.
Emo was great before it sucked. I promise. I was there.
There's still a ton of smaller bands that carry the torch now.

I was briefly into the album "Diary" then had totally forgotten about them, thanks for the reminder guys. Looking forward to the episode.

This band is so bad
