    After I did all your points. I checked out the spark plugs and found one of the port’s with an oil film. And checked the torque and, pulled out the plug. There’s was oil on the plug. Cleaning it and putting it back in and torque. All is good. 40,000 miles on a 2016 Chevy cruise. Thanks for your posting.

    Try unscrewing the coil pack, pull it up slighly. Turn on the the engine, then wiggle the coil pack up and down or side to side. See if that makes changes the volume of the chirping. It could be a problem with loose spark plugs, coil boots or the coils. The chirping could actually be arcing. I had a similar problem with my 2013 Cruze 1.4 Ecotec. It was resulting in poor gas mileage and sluggish acceleration.
    On a side note, if you ever remove the valve cover, check in the timing chain location, there's a brownish orange plastic guide towards the top for the timing chain. It's been known that this gets loose and it needs to be tightened down. This is because there's a hole at the top of the guide that spits oil to lube the guide for the timing chain. If that gets loose, then then oil doesn't lube the top surface of the guide where its needed.

    Like others have said. It's the crankshaft seal. It may also be the valve cover if you are unlucky. Be aware checking the plugs will very likely result in torn boots. There are numerous service bulletins from GM. It's a common problem. New crankshaft seal cost me $150 installed here in Canada in June 2023.

      I am jealous of your install cost. I have a 2014 Chevy Volt, which uses a similar or even the same engine for electricity generation via gas, was quoted by two dealerships here in California $1500 for the front crankshaft seal replacement.

    Its the crank shaft seal! - Not the PCV valve in the top cover, nor the belts, nor the pulleys, nor the water pump, altinator, air-con etc. Been there done that. drove me mad, spent a lot of time, money and frustration. Got the crank shaft seal changed, Happy Days!

      @ffsteel111 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I replaced my crankshaft seal and I still have the squeaking noise although when I pull out the oil dipstick it goes away. My next noise is now coming from the top of the valve cover at that PCV valve hole on the top of that round piece. What was your fix for this? Did you change the valve cover did that fix it?

    • @stevemc6671
      @stevemc6671 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ffsteel111 Replacing the crankshaft seal fixed the kind of bird tweeting/chirping sound. This chirping sound was most noticeable when the engine was under load just prior to moving off and particularly when you turned on the A/C. Once the wheels started moving, the chirping had gone. It was also particularly noticeable if you hold down the brake and just tickle the gas. The replacing of the PCV Top Cover cured the constant high pitched noise (which of course disappears when you pull the dipstick). I know it's really difficult to precisely locate sounds in an engine bay, but a medical stethoscope can help sometimes as you can home in on certain areas. I tell you what, when you finally get rid of all those noises, you can sleep at night. Good Luck!

      @@ffsteel111 Hopefully it's all sorted for you and your customer now?! BTW On a different occasion I had to get the inlet manifold replaced as it had a reocurring and persistent P0170 error code issue. Oh! and it went through 2 Water Pumps, on the second occasion it almost fried the engine. I must have had the engine built by the manufacture on the last shift before holidays!

  • @vgnfab

    I have an 05 outback xt quite modified.. New engine build with a lot of customizations.. The comments and the video categorically nailed down the issue topic I'm having by trying the oil fill cap on then off etc. Clearly my level of vacuum is causing the reed effect of a wind instrument somewhere. I'm not convinced mine is my rear main seal which everyone here keeps calling crank seal.. The majority of seals on the engine are subject to the crank case pressure. The entire valve cover gaskets, the "front crank seal" ie oil pump seal, the rear, all 4 cam seals, the oil pan, the oil pump, brake booster, all your PCV system, probably more. But yea, the shaft seals - cam and crank - that's interesting.. Mine almost sounds like a passenger side cam seal.. Then again passenger side valve cover as well. Still haven't pin pointed mine, but everyone was saying turbo... So turbo air and oil are also culprits technically.

    I have that exact same chirp, and I just replaced the intake and hose yesterday, and the valve cover about 2 months ago since it had the hissing sound. My chirp wasn't there when I first started it, but took it for a drive and when I got home it's squeaking again. There's no hissing sound now, but there's a chirp. I'm wondering if maybe I have something else, or did I blow out the valve cover again? This car is a pain, but fun to drive when it's all working right.

    • @markrounds6302

      Turns out my problem was the #2 and #3 spark plugs backed out. Cleaned them and torqued them down and chrip is gone. FWIW, my valve cover was hissing, the valve in the intake was gone, and the hose was cracked so they did need replacing. They just were not the sound I was hearing. Hope this helps anyone that is reading this.
