Same. 90's kid, played this on PS3. And I will never forget how few matches I actually got in. It's one of the earliest examples of why things like Gamergate happened because reviewers at the time DOGPILED IT WITH NEGATIVITY. "The campaigns are short!" they all screamed while completely ignoring the multiplayer. People, at the time, took it as a sign that the game was genuinely bad and passed it up. Within a month, I wasn't able to find any matches in what had easily been one of the most fun multiplayers I had played at the time.
It was awesome , though the multiplayer version never hit europe , so we only had the single player campaign , which I really liked , good story good atmosphere
@@Impalingthorn While i liked the game, a lot of the negativity behind the game comes from the fact that it was a bit of a letdown compared to AVP2. AVP2 was so good and in many ways this one felt inferior.
as a long time predator player when this game first came out, If you can land every hit and play it like a real predator would, (stealth, strike, jump away and stealth again) its actually a really powerful race, I rarely lost matches back then, man this game deserves a sequel
I remember a lot of Predator players just trying to army of 1 everyone and would get their ass handed to them. People have the mindset of a Predator as this big hulking brute (which in a sense it is), but they're hunters. They hide and hit and run.
( *UPDATE* I typed this out before watching the video, lol. I see now that this is the 2010 AvP. I thought it was Rebellion's 1999 AvP. Whoops! ) It got a sequel. AvP2, which I thought was the better game in every way, not to say that AvP 1 was bad. Not at all. AvP2 was by Monolith, the devs who made the Shadow of Mordor and No One Lives Forever games. Rebellion got it back for the 2010 AvP, which never really grabbed me. AvP does need a reboot though, it's been 14 long years. But since AvP has been in hibernation, we got some decent Aliens games. Colonial Marines was mid. I don't think it's as bad as its reputation would suggest, at least on PC. Isolation is the GOAT. Fireteam Elite was pretty good, and Dark Descent is absolutely badass. If you love Aliens, give that a try even if you don't like that style of game. It may surprise you.
Was about to say this exact thing. We played the character correctly just as you said, stealth, stalking, one kill vanish and use to destroy players. You have to play how a predator would in the movies. It was also fun being the marine in a group playing against the someone using the Predator correctly as it was mad fun and stressful ha.
heard you on that sequel bro, I always come back and replay the campaigns every couple of years and it saddens me we will prob not get a remastered version of this
9:46 The predator is one of the best species if you know what you're doing. He has the fastest heavy attack and a menace close qtr due to having the most hp, really it takes some practice to get a good grasp on his skills and the general combat mechanics (canceling attacks, blocking, etc) of the game. His plasma blaster is by far the most op weapon in the game ( aside from the smart gun, of course), as it can oneshot the alien and marine. His disk of doom follows the reticle and can bounce off the walls (adding to his close qtr prowess), and you can switch to the other weapons while the disk flies about. The predator has a higher skill ceiling compared to the other two species but can easily have a strangle hold over the map and dominate (especially if the two predators are skilled at the game). Personally, I love the Alien due to its speed and agility. I've played this game so much growing up, and hopefully, the game is played more by others, truly a hidden gem.
Playing as the Predator was by far my favourite experience of the game, both in singleplayer and in multiplayer. You have to be so calculated, methodical and patient, you really feel like the Jungle Hunter from Predator (1987). And I don't know if you knew while playing, but you can walk by holding down the left shift key, which makes you invisible on the marines' motion tracker. Being invisible on their motion tracker leaves them almost completely blind, since the Aliens are naturally hard to see in the dark, and the Predators are cloaked. Running and jumping also disrupts the cloaking in a few spots on the predator, slowly walking obviously does not, so the Predator can become completely invisible as well, especially from long range. The speed of my hand on the mouse to pre-order a new Aliens vs. Predator game..."I doubt you could even imagine it".
We desperately need another AVP game. We've barely gotten any Alien and Predator games in the past 14 years. Alien: Isolation, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, and Predator: Hunting Grounds have been the only ones, and the first is the only truly great one.
Honestly I'd be perfectly happy buying an optimized, fine tuned copy of the game on Unreal Engine 5. The game is already great as is, but a graphical update that also fixed minor issues of the original would be the cherry on top for me.
The Predator was kind of OP as they were better than Aliens in melee (same abilities, harder to stagger/stun) and had ranged capabilities that could one-shot everything. Semi-decent pred players always dominated back in the day.
@@Spiketicon Oh man do you remember joining 3 team deathmatchs and like 75% of players would be predators, I would always join the marines and maybe one other player would join me. Just get smoked by all the others.
back when i used to play on 360 the predator was actually considered very strong. I think this has a lot to do with the lobbies because with a full loby of randoms not coordinating the preds could easily jump everyone for easy kills as they had the means to gang up on both marines and aliens easily and like you said the playing conditions made it harder to see them and aim accurately. Mines were especially hard to spot back then too because of how dark the game is on a tv. The throwing spear is also insanely good once you get used to it, like downright broken good. But on pc the marines definitely reign supreme.
I once loaded into a match and instantly died every spawn because a pred player memorized and mined all of them. Definitely most infuriating moments of my life.
Yeah, I actually rarely ever played the Marine class, even the Marine campaign, just because back then it was such a piece of trash for me to control and so I never got into learning how to use it, the alien was perfect for sneaking up and getting uber satisfying takedowns with, the predator felt amazing when you got a kill off imo. It's such a shame that we won't be getting a sequel based on how things currently are, I was always wanting to continue the stories of Rookie, Specimen 6 and Dark, but alas that's just a dream.
Oh damn, I remember this game. I also remember exploiting the hell out of the game's dynamig lighting system by destroying lightbulbs, the fact that people rarely look _up,_ and the fact they tend to not notice non-moving alien clinging to the ceiling right above the entrance in a dark room.
I remember an Infestation match in Refinery where three marines scooted around beneath me in a tight corridor for about a minute before they split up a little too far and I was able to stealth kill the straggler. It's always a laugh.
@@unfortunatelythis4183 I played a match of infestation on temple and during the beginning my buddy and I got jumping (queue marine *hup*) and eventually the whole squad was at it, the alien burst through a corridor and OP'd one of our guys then disappeared. We all stared at the body for a minute then began *hup* ing again. Core memory
On map with the closing doors and tight hallways, I ran past an alien crouched in the corner of a hallway, thought I saw something weird and looked back, before getting brutally jump scared and killed. I still think of that moment from time to time, was so crazy!
This is true but I had one match where I was last human standing in infestation. It was just me and a shotgun on the interior temple map whatever it's called. I was in one room the whole time. With a respawning shotgun. I kept checking each entrance to the room. They kept coming but thankfully one good shotgun blast took down each alien. Some quick reflexes and a keen eye and ear. I held out the entire last ... I forget how long but it was several minutes. I don't even remember if I won or lost in the end but it was a LONG round. I'm pretty sure I won but I also remember losing but I may be getting 2 matches mixed up. It's been a LONG time. I played the ps3 version.
@@Guardian-of-Light137I used to love the PC version, it was so much fun for the time this game had an audience playing. It sucks that there’s too many cheaters and whoever is playing it now is super pro
The "boomerang thing" is by far the most powerfull weapon in the game. It gives a one shot one kill if you hit the heads and can bounce on wall giving you the possibility to do more kills with just one throw. Plus, it stuns the enemy if hit in the body, so you can run to him and one tap him with the claws.
The Alien campaign was so much fun. Lurking in shadows, stalking marines, snatching them up from the bloody ceiling, fleeing in terror when you hear them turn the pulse rifles on you. Good times.
Just replayed I I enjoyed way more than my first run years ago With years of agility now I could hunt all marines and enjoy playing with them as well as destroy the aliens as a Marine, such a gold game
the three single player campaigns were really good imo. each of them felt very different from one another. Predator was like playing a stealth sniper game, Xenomorphs was like playing an ambush hunting puzzle game, and Marines felt like a straight up horror game.
You hit the nail on the head with the console section of the video. When I first played the game on my PS3 with my friends the marines felt weak and the predator felt the strongest. They were invisible, saw you clear as day no matter where or what you were and had one shot ranged potential. I absolutely adored this game growing up and I’m so happy to see people talking about it again.
This was the third game in the series. There was an AvP and an AvP 2 on PC only back in the late 90s and early 2000s and it was HARD. Marines were so squishy. AvP 2 had this same great 3 team multiplayer. There were multiple huge maps as well. One of my favorite features was you could turn on Alien Lifecycle mode where any Alien player spawned in as a Facehugger. You had to be sneaky and catch a Marine or Predator and facehug them. Then, after about a minute, you'd pop out as a cheastburster. Go hide for about 10-20 seconds and you'd molt into a Alien or even a Predalien if you were lucky enough to get a Predator. Fun times. :)
AvP 2 was the best of the lot. I played the shit out of that back in the 00s. Still the best multiplayer experience I’ve had to the day. Lead my own clan and everything with my friend, and did the clan wars thing. Light pred was my fav, stalking and waiting to get that headshot with the spear gun, or several headshots. So many fun game types too, and so many people played it for a long time, at least until like 2007. So like 6 years of full lobbies every night.
@@neilstarkweather8721 Damn, I remember playing AvP2 too, but mostly just single-player campaigns. Like 3 or 4 times at least, first time when I was a scared twelve year old. I missed on the multiplayer aspect. I didn't have a PC at the time :/ But I did play it with Savior mod, although I bet that doesn't compare to the experience you're describing in your comment.
@@ragingsaviorkami9862 I started playing it around 2004 or 2005, more toward the end of its life cycle, but you wouldn’t be able to tell because you could always get a full or near full lobby on any game type. I was also 12 when I started, but AvP was my shit. Only PG-13 movie I ever snuck into under age, cause I had to see it. AvP Extinction was also a fun game, basically the Halo Wars of AvP.
@@neilstarkweather8721 I played it with my sister constantly around 2004-2006. It was the best. I remember AVP 1 and the multiplayer was good, I played the one mentioned in the video as well and it was also nice. Still, nothing compares to a rush of adrenaline playing AVP 2 multiplayer as a marine vs aliens on a Quarantine map!. Last stances in the lower room with a couple of mates against constant waves of aliens. Pure joy! I wonder if it's still active.
@@bart_d I remember those games! And that one vent to the right in the lower hallway that the aliens always tried to sneak in through. On the flip, being a facehugger crawling through the vents, watching the fighting below and looking for someone isolated to give a hug to. Last I knew there were some people trying to keep like one or two servers alive, but that was several years ago. I also got my sis into AvP a bit. She liked predators a lot because I showed her how they weren’t scary. But she never played the games with me. She did play Doom though… and for some reason was NOT afraid of demons…
One other highly asymmetric game I am surprised you did not mention is Natural Selection 2. It is one of those "dead" games which has 50 dedicated people playing it constantly. There are noob lobbies, but veterans will be tough to beat. There are 2 factions, where Kharaa (Aliens) are all about movement mechanics, agility and mostly melee and Marines, which are more about ranged combat, pushing as a team and covering each other. It also has a unique RTS component where the commander of each team is playing RTS with resource gathering and upgrades to the bases and solders/life forms, while telling the team where to focus their attention, as well as supporting them.
Its a great game that I can't recommend playing. The remaining community is god awful and elitist, and, does not welcome new players in the slightest. The game will eventually die with no new players coming into the game, and, it'll be the fault of that community.
Damn man i was looking for the name of that game i had the memory of it on the back of my head. I never played it but i remember watching gameplays about it years ago the nostalgia.
I watched a ton of tournament matches of this game on yt, bcuz it was just super fun. Sadly never got to play an actual match but I too heard that there are only super experienced players left, I guess thats to be expected from a multiplayer game this old. I wish they’d given Natural Selection 2 the TF2 treatment and made it free, maybe that would help. Also Natural Selection 3 would be super hype, I wouldn’t expect an „aliens vs marines” game do well in 2024 but here it is - Helldivers 2
One thing to add as well for the Infection game mode, if you knew what you were doing as an Alien, a room filled with Marines is more like dinner plate then a danger, if you are crawling on the wall the Alien's heavy attack becomes a quick tail stab, this stab two shots marines and the first hit stuns them. I've run into hallways filled with marines and ended up killing about half of them this way. Back on Xbox me and friends just had a group of people that played all the time, loved it so dearly.
One of my favourite memories of this game was being one of two marines remaining, me and this guy just backing down a corridor trying to make it. Him falling, me picking up the smartgun, and just backed into a corner firing non-stop. Barely, barely made it. Amazing times
The predators heavy attack is op and makes him the best species in the game, light attacks from the alien and marine cant stun him, and he is fast asf you just have to learn the movement tech and if you learn to use his weapons correctly hes unstoppable
It used to be, but when I played the MP last year, the Alien's tail heavy attack seems to have more range than it did to at launch and they also seem to have nerfed the Predator's leap attack range. I'd say the Aliens have the slight edge in melee, but Predators are still the more OP class overall it's adept at everything.
I remember playing this multiplayer as a kid. The main issue is once you know how to, the predators are so much stronger than aliens or marines. It’s a bit lopsided.
You never mentioned the block/light/Heavy core fighting mechanic for aliens and predators. Super fun and balanced. Light attacks do moderate damage but can be blocked rendering them null and light attacking a blocking enemy opens you up for your opponents counter. Heavy attacks always land (breaking thru blocks) and stuns your enemy, opening them up for a light attack/grab combo. But Heavy attacks have long wind up animations, making you vulnerable during them. Heavy attacks are interruptable too, which stuns you if interrupted. This core melee triangle is peak hand to hand combat play.
Grabs are possible after heavy attacks on your opponent, and grabs are always possible from behind your opponent. If your opponent is hp will severely damage them instead of insta killing, opening them up for a quick clean up kill. There's so much to this game. Low barrier to entry, high skill ceiling. Severely underrated.
Don't forget that Heavy attacks can be cancelled with a Light attack and a Block if I remember correctly. I remember when the game first came out, a developer made a post letting everyone know that you could do just that and it did add more complexity to the melee combat loop. So if you're heavy attacking and in the wind up, a basic smart player will light attack you to stop your attack, so you then know to cancel your heavy with a block. There were mind games that came after this because you didn't know if your opponent would know to light attack you, or maybe they knew to light attack you to cancel your block, but they assume you know that they know to do that, so they know not to light attack you because you're just going to block the light. So with two skilled players, when one heavy attacks, you should actually heavy attack back, because they're thinking you're going to cancel their heavy with a light, but you don't because you know all of that. But then maybe you both know all of that, and then you're back to square one uncertain what they're really going to do. Lol that took me a while to type out, but I remember when I played the game getting into that questioning. Wondering if the other player is going to cancel my heavy with a light attack so I need to counter mid way through, or if they're going to heavy my heavy so I have to light, or just keep the heavy going. One of my favorite games!
@@jakewilk8918 Absolutely, I should have mentioned that! That's called feigning an attack, when you start a heavy attack then cancel it with blocking. Very useful. It creates much depth to melee encounters. This game doesn't receive as much credit as it should.
I remember playing this on my Xbox as a kid, and it was so populated that I would play it almost every day for a while and not even a minute would pass before I get out in a full lobby. I even hosted a server/lobby one time and got them to coordinate some teamwork and team compositions. I wish there was an asymmetrical Aliens game in the vein of this or Predator Hunting Grounds.
Okay, first a couple of things about this video, then I’ve got a story. The Predator is INSANELY OP and broken, especially if you use glitches (more on that in a moment). In my final days, an all-Predator lobby was common and was absolute hell. Often, they would place mines on spawn points and kill you before you had a chance to move. The predators are indeed as fast as the Aliens when you know what you’re doing. The smart disk is especially nasty! If you're in a low-player lobby, it can be used to track others and find them. One hit and a tossed disk meant death. Headshots were insta-kills. The plasma caster never misses when you jump and time it right. Plasma spammers were the worst. The Predator had the most glitches (the Marine and Alien have some too, but not to the same extent as the Predator). If you hold the button to recharge your power at a power node and hit it with a heavy attack, you’d recharge without being in a vulnerable state. The smart disk can be spammed with no cooldown and doesn’t have to finish its attack, so no one can get near you. Mines can be hidden with a combi-stick (spear), and the plasma caster in the Gateway map can be taken away completely. The Predator's heavy attack has an INSANE range, more than the Aliens. Just back away as it charges. There’s a lot more, but that’s all for now. Story time! This game used to be my go-to hub for YEARS. I played on PS3 and later on PC. I was a demon in this game in my prime. I remember once I got into a lobby for a game of Infestation. There were three kids in the lobby under the age of twelve. They were vicious little ones! I opened my mouth to say hi and was met with abuse and foul language. I refused to leave (I was quite a troll back then), and they decided to start the game begrudgingly with only four people. Sitting in the game, waiting for the 30-second countdown to select the Alien player, they continued running their mouths until I said, “Watch, knowing my luck I'll be the Alien.” They didn’t like that. “You better not be! You’ll be so sorry if you’re the Alien!” (paraphrasing for the bad language). Countdown ends. “You are the Alien,” the lady says. Yup. So I scout them out. We’re playing the Temple map, so there are LOTS of high places to observe from. These three are back to back to back, watching every possible direction I can come from. Unfortunately for them, they were dealing with an expert! I get into a position on the other side of the map and make a complicated running jump. I land perfectly in the middle of them, and they all had their backs to me. The first one is dead with a heavy attack followed by a light one. The other two immediately realize what just happened and begin shooting wildly. I jump around, and they lose sight of me quickly. I’m met with a lot of screaming from the first kid, but I don’t listen and focus on the other two. As soon as the other two lose visual on me, I move right in and lunge and light attack the second kid. He’s dead. More yelling now with two of them. I am now laughing like a psychopath. The third kid tries to make a run for it. Never ever turn your back in this game! He doesn’t have a chance. I quickly close the distance and back grab him. The game is over, and they are so pissed, screaming so many obscenities: “Hacker! Cheater! You spawned behind us! You’re cheating!” No... you just need to get good! They were so pissed that they turned off their PlayStations to get out of the lobby as quickly as possible. I got a lot more stories, but this one always make me smile!
Infestation on the pyramid map was crazy fun with friends. The map constantly changing and separating us from everyone while aliens charged forward was some of the most fun I've had.
It was the best part overall, in my opinion. Tons of fun hearing your teammates, a wall separating you, gun fire, a hiss and scream, and their mic cutting off. Classic
Taking into account the fact that it's a 14 year old game and was designed for console helps explain a lot. But to add on to what you said, I think we should also consider the average skill level of players at the time as well. While there has always been an exception for pros and the occasional insane online players, for the most part people were no where near as good at video games back then as we are now so I can see why the marine feels overpowered. I remember the predator not being horrible back when I played avp and there was definitely a learning curve with the kit. The alien was always my favorite though
wonder if the same will happen to this game, would be cool and also would show that a game like this would be played if handled right, Alien may need to be reworked for accessibility/motion sickness reasons but aside from that this game would be pretty good to see getting a remaster
Infestation on Pyramid is the best hands down, having marines just be split from each other with the moving doors and walls only to hear them scream through the wall is just such a cinematic experience
predator glows up when he lets aliens and marines fight eachother, and cleans up the aftermath. only deals small dmg because small dmg is usually enough to eliminate the survivor
I have fond memories of the MP for the old Aliens vs. Predator from _1999,_ which also comes with three SP campains (one for each faction) that are still incredibly fun. Oh, and this game even supported Shutter glasses (which were some early form of VR back then). A friend of mine had a pair of those and the results were actually quite impressive.
Me too! (Read my other comment, I think you might enjoy it) :D I didn't know about the shutter glasses, though! Also considering the dynamic destruction of lights, this game was way ahead of its time.
I was so good at this game back in the day 😅 here’s some tips for y’all newbies that weren’t covered: -The Alien has a hidden heavy attack that uses its tail. It’s a 2 hit kill, but has the speed of a light attack. To use it, tap the heavy attack button while on a wall or when your target is just outside melee range. -The Predator’s smart disc can be guided with the laser. You can use this to send it into an enclosed room from a distance and let it bounce around the room. -The Marine’s sniper rifle highlights enemies through the scope. If you have a team with you, use it to spot enemies and tell them to shoot where you’re shooting. -Avoid insta-kills since they leave you wide open.
All three story modes are amazing and they even cross over each other. The multiplayer was so much fun. The aliens and predator have insane kill animations that ive never seen topped to this day. Using the flares as the marines to flush out the aliens was always so cinematic as well. The marine mission where you fight through the alien infested holo-strip club is a true highlight. The club music on top of your flares and the flashing lights make the whole mission a fever dream.
Oh man I totally loved that holo-strip club fight part of that campaign! and I absolutely loved playing as the Predator. If you knew how to use all his weapons properly, oh and if you walked while cloaked, you wouldn't show up on the Marines motion trackers. I remember playing the sequel without playing the first one, and getting owned by people who knew how to use the Predators arsenal perfectly.
I played this game a TON growing up, favorite mode was infestation. As for the Predator, he's actually OP if played right. Just sit back while marines and aliens fight and use stealth to pick off individual marines and aliens, either from a distance or from grabs.
Hello. Drumanin here! Ive play that game many years ago on PC. Near 2014 probably? It was ALREADY there hard dead. No local sessions and only 1-2 rooms in internet section (there in the game cheeky devided lobbies system which was kind confusing). Gladly i could play some weeks and even recorded some maybe most popular lets plays in my region. I could get near 35 level or so even? It gave you cool skins. Funny, it was one of my most boomed series which pushed me further. So, you van watch how it was if you interested in gameplay and how it was with buddies. Thats game has special place for me in my heart. It was my favorite AvP game. And i was really hyped about that universe. It was so fun to play like alien finally and so fast and agile! I cant look without laugh at DbD alien, whos sooooooo slow that he cant fast catch survivours or even jump on the walls. I cant take his dbd version seriously after this game gameplay. I never understood why people so fast left that game and why it has no loyal playing community. Its pretty cheap, but also fun and no microtransactions. It has fun unique gameplay, some variety, cool atmosphere and also some amazing maps. Pyramid map still my FAVORITE unique multiplayer map in online games. Its SO simple, but so fun to play. Game deserved better honestly. With some tweaks and content it could be even greater! Also there were two cheeky ways to play. 1 - you couod abuse stealth kills as alien with its speed. It was super cancerous. 2 - you could make a bug with human sniper rifle and get a legal wallhacks until reload, if i remember by breaking animations through scope and melee+block. It was cheaty, but trash funny xd In general great game. Im so want to see next game after all that long years. I dont know why they have stop. Game didnt fail, it was good and still looks great! We need AvP4!
@@SpaceGhost2733 It's that new zoomer speak. They are an entire generation that learned to speak through internet interactions and don't realize that how they talk isn't how civilized human beings talk in the real world.
Ah the memories This was my first multiplayer game. A few tips As a marine your only optiont to "hide" is to turn off your flashlight. Its really easy to spot for predators and whitout it you can suprise them around corners. Also learning when to block is incredably powerfull in 1v1 s Aliens NEED to coordinate You can press R i think to do a little HÆÆÆRGH which can be used a lure or a sugnal for teamates. For the predator i dont have much to say Think like a hunter Pick off survivers of other conflicts Stun from afar and get in for the kill Happy hunting
I loved to play as the xenomorph, because of the movies i instantly bought the game and grew obsessed, not to mention finding references to the 1970s movie
I have the game and go back to it occasionally. Unfortunately, only the Marine campaign is really good. The other two campaigns aren't really all that fun. You can tell the devs put most of their time and effort into the marine campaign.
Take it as someone who pre-ordered avp2010, and was in the top ten rankings for a couple years. The predator is by far the most overpowering force in a good players hand. Many matches were i soloed teams by myself or with a buddy. The pred was so powerful they had to nerf both his combistick and the disc. Hell if you practice ironman combos plus good combi on marines you who be hard to beat. Thanks for sharing this, brought up a lot of good memories of a time long past for me. Cheers.
Additionally, on an older TV, the Marines would have an insane time trying to spot Xenomorphs, making the Aliens even stronger. But more importantly, the Aliens don't have special abilities that let them see anyone, making noticing the Predators the worst experience possible. I'd honestly love for modern game devs to make a game like this, but made for higher resolution devices, and with some slightly more balanced ways of playing the multiplayer.
Can't thank you enough to bringing this gem recognition!! I remember as a kid I was mesmorized by this game I would always come home and watch videos about it especially the alien campaign.
I’m 26, I uses to play at it more than 10 years ago and sometimes I play the campaign. Amazing game, one of my favorite. I’m still waiting for a sequel.
back in the day when i played this on 360, playing a marine in multiplayer was like playing a horror game all in its own. the enemies were hard to track and it ended up just being 4 marines hiding in a room trying not to get flanked
i played a lot of pred years ago and picked the game back up about 3 months ago to at lest play the campaign again. A few points on the pred the 1:spear is almost broken if you get the practice, tho is the biggest time sink. 2:The throwing disk can one shot/two shot people if you headshot(best on aliens bigger heads). its fast thrown time can be a good close-mid range hit followed up with a heavy attack will kill a human outright. Also, you can control the disk after thrown but is hard to get the hang of. Hidden bonus you get wall hack (it will make a little marker when looking at an enemies even through some walls). 3:The mines are rather crap but if you have the trapper mindset or have a lot of fast aliens it can have uses 3/10. Put on walls and ceilings to keep aliens from running on them(it hurts, small stager that drops them off the ceiling, and bright as hell when it explodes in their face. 4: yes the cannon sucks but can be used as a good poke at a camping human or on the open maps locking on to aliens to track them. Rather bad but lest amount of learning curve. OTHER: use invis all the time. you hit people from afar and got back invis or pick you melee fights well. Proper blocking and attack combos are hard but do work. you are a strike fast get out kind of build. biggest thing is the learning curve so 99% of people don't know how you work, so you get a lot of how did that happen/ wtf moments back in the day. Hope this helps anyone who was wondering.
Tip for being the alien. Using wall walk stay on the ceiling. Staying still. So motion tracker doesn’t pick you up. Wait for them to go underneath and then turn wall walk off. Easy kill
Natural selection 2 was a good asymmetrical, a RTS and FPS hybrid that had commanders and players having to work together while battling a team that operated totally different
One "somewhat" asymemtrical multiplayer game i can remember is SCP Secret Laboratory, though it is better not to disturb the hornet nest, if you know what i mean.
i have thousands of hours on this game from when i was younger (on PC as well) and the Predators were by far the most oppressive believe it or not, seemingly because of how high their skill ceilings were with micro-managing your weapons and visions.
I remember playing this game! I loved the infection mode. It was super difficult in a full lobby and starting out as the alien. I hide on top of a tunnel ceiling that was dark and waited super patiently for a single marine to walk in after they all got super confident and bored and started roaming around. With just that single marine kill it started the domino effect. I loved starting infection as the alien.
I have to point out this asymetrical 3 team Aliens v Predator game was done 2 SEPARATE TIMES Before this one. From my own experience the gameplay is EXTREMELY similar to this one, including the OP Xenomorph and Gun toting Muhreenes. The older games can be grabbed on sale for mere pennies.
AVP 1 & 2 are much faster and don't have the grapples that 2010 does, they feel very different. 2010 is much slower and feels heavier, which I personally prefered but you can see why there was still an active AVP 2 community at the time. The games were different enough to put some people off.
@@0lionheartI prefer AvP 2 since the game had classes for each faction and more variety (you could play as facehuggers and the queen). In AvP 2010, every marine, alien and predator had the same weapons. I also enjoyed the faster gameplay and you didn’t get “locked” in melee combat when attacking with the alien or predator
I’m surprised in the video he mentions no one liked playing as the Predator. Back in the 360 days everyone wanted to play as them and no one wanted to play as the Marines lol. The throwing disc for the predator was cool, you can knock down an enemy with it and you can try to pull off a finishing move. The spear, if I remember right, was a one shot and you’d have to lead your targets the further away you are. He’s pretty spot on with the mines, and the plasma caster was annoying when spammed. I still own this game on 360, but I might pick it up on Steam since it seems like there’s at least 100 players daily, I’ve been itching to play that multiplayer again for YEARS.
Thank you for making a video on this video game. I have the game and have wanted to play the multiplayer for a long time. I'm glad to know that there's still interest in this game.
Playing with a group of friends as Marines was both terrifying and exhilarating. Especially when people suddenly disappeared after a burst of gunfire. Having actually intelligent monsters playing cat and mouse was great. Alien was fun to as you slither about and rush people before they can hit you.
Iwill never forget when bunch of predators were playing against 1 alien, dude legit wrote in chat "Guys this game is called PredatoR as in 1 vs AlienS as in many , not other way around" the laughter that ensued soiled many undies . One of my core gaming memories :D
You hit the nail on the head at the end, on a tv back in the day day it was different. I was in year 9 or 10 of school when it was current and we had a blast. Predators were a menace with the heavy attack not having a huge telegraph. I would always play alien because I loved the wall jump ambush play style. I never got the hang of marines- waaay to scary in a full lobby, it was like dead space on crack
Infestation mode is some of the best experiences I've ever had playing a game. I remember stacking up with a bunch of guys amd it was down to me and like 3 other British guys just crying and looking at all the walls and ceilings while the aliens hiss.
This game is genuinely such a gem. The predator and alien were my go to’s, getting the hang of the predator was mainly about getting good with the utility, staying aware and learning how to get around your prey from maintaining high ground. Maps with tight corridors are not great for the predator, but maps that allow for a Birds Eye allow you to control areas relatively effectively so long and you maintain map awareness and utilise your mines to keep you safe more than get your kills.
man I remember seeing footage of the multiplayer back in the day and really wanting to play it. It's sad that it's so dead now that it's basically impossible to play the MP. We need a modern avp multiplayer game. That would go so hard with modern graphics and better gameplay tuning and game modes.
Played this a lot growing up, both with friends, and on multiplayer. The aliens goal was mostly for them to use their speed and stealth to skirt around weapons fire as much as possible, and commit to assassinations. Predators were to use their invisibility to harass marines and aliens that stay in one spot without moving for too long, getting their kills on unsuspecting aliens and marines that were too scared to move from an area, or thinking they were sneaky respectively. Aliens would take on marines forced to move from their positions, or unsuspecting predators, and marines would basically try to shoot anything that moved even slightly lol. Get broken up by coordinated teams as a marine, and it turns into a horror game of where is the next threat before I can find a teammate lol.
I have heard of this game. It is a lot of fun. Me, my wife, my daughter, and several of our friends all play this game together on the weekend. I am a Xenomorph main. It is the most fun for me.
I miss this game to this day. I LOVED playing as an alien. You actually legit felt like one, and it actually felt like you could sneak around in the shadows and ambush other players, it was amazing. I also loved the mode where you started as a bunch of marines and whenever someone died they turned into an alien. I'm sad it died, especially so quickly. I still think about it lmao.
I often played Predator in PvP and I used them as a sort of sniper class. I'd get the plasma cannon and then position myself invisible in an area with good vision, preferably against a wall to avoid ambushes from the stealthy aliens, and then snipe people with the plasma cannon which was actually surprisingly effective. Btw you can also avoid the human's motion scanner by holding CTRL, you move slowly but you also do not show on their motion sensor.
I somewhat remember this game. Infestation was a great mode, but I think the mode I enjoyed most was the TDM where you only had 2 teams but you coulud be any of the 3 races on your team. I remember having a fun little strat with a buddy of mine that mained Predator whilst I was the alien involving me telling him where enemies were through walls and then basically jumping all over the shop to disorient them so he could get in for some kills whilst I then rounded on the other players as they tried to figure out what was happening. Played on PS3, and from what I remember you typically saw a lot of Marines in that mode. So I think that even on console Marines were generally considered the strongest of the 3.
I remember playing a different game mode ages ago, where you could spawn as a face hugger, a drone, a fast drone, or a tanky drone. You could also become a queen with enough kills. The marines could also get an exo suitl Also I remember predators being bad even back then. They'd mostly wait for the marines and xenos to fight, then pick off targets in the ensuing chaos.
This was one of my first PS3 games way back when. A Next-Gen remake would be GREAT, especially if it came with cross-platform multiplayer. Also, I have fond memories of The Aliens and all the shenanigans their wall climbing let me get away with.
Loved this. The Predator I found was just a massive stomp machine. You just gibbed everything instantly, were invisible and could heal! The Alien was by far the most satisfying to be good with though.
On Xbox we had predator clans beefing with each other and did trials for recruiting and tournaments to see who was strongest. The multiplayer was insane with all the different game modes. One of my favorite modes was infestation. 1 alien, a bunch of marines, and each marine kill meant another alien. On certain maps it was scary fun lol.
I remember playing this as a teenager. The plasma caster was good for one job as a predator. If there was an opponent at short range you could just knock them to the ground by tapping it without locking on. Then it would give you time to close the gap and finisjh them while they were floored
Marines have a distinct weakness in that they have to find all their best weapons. The stagger from the first melee on them is usually enough to wind up a heavy, which kills. Bonus alien tip! If youre on a ceiling, you can headshot marines and maybe preds with a tail attack, killing them instantly. Its a good counter to motion sensors
Another asymmetrical game is Batman Arkham Origins multiplayer it was 3v3v2 it was Joker gang versus Bane gang versus Batman and Robin and you would have to capture points while fighting other team while Batman and Robin are trying to take all you guys out it was hella fun
I've played this game so much back in the day. I unlocked all the skins for Predator and Alien, and I did really good in multiplayer. I tried to play some multiplayer a few years later and I was actually shocked when I saw 0 lobbies. I was the only person online. Rest in peace to this awesome game [*]
I always played this game as a child. I still love playing it to this day and I’m about to start another playthrough of the marine story. Regarding the MP: When I played as a teenager I met lots of cool people on this game and they showed to that each species could be the strongest one. It’s really depending on the player. I spent quite much effort in becomes good at alien and predator. I always used the spear and was really good with it. As the alien you just learn the movement and then you can easily perform finishing kills on the enemy by just slithering around them real quick. This game was gorgeous man, and I’m really sad no one really plays it anymore
You're right about the multiplayer, brother. Last time I played this game somewhat regularly was like 8 years ago, and it was on one specific server that banned the use of grab kills. After everyone got bored of that it went to the current state you found it in.
I remember this game on the ps3! What a time to be alive. LOVED this game. Loved the fact that as you played each race more, you unlocked skins. All around a wonderful experience. And yes, Predators were WAY stronger back then, it was a LOT easier to land the shots, and the stealth was almost unnoticeable.
Oh man, I remember that time... I was a monster playing as a Alien in Xbox 360, always climbing and killing with the tail attack and later finish them with a fatality. I really love that multiplayer and always I have a special site for it in my heart.
From playing this game back in the day my experience was a Predator player that new what he was doing would rule the server, and same with the Marine player who new what they were doing would rule the server. I specifically remember a time where a really good marine team of 3 players we had to gang up to kill as aliens and Predators because they was nigh unkillable together as a squad which is to say they are powerful. The aliens tho were always middle of the road felt very good to coordinate together to take out other people with finishes combos stuns were always great with friends, but they never felt like they were broken just because how quickly you die to Marines or Predators felt like a lfd2 special infected.
Had a great time playing this with you! Thanks for having me. Was also a childhood game of mine, so the nostalgia of playing it again was crazy
I still go back to play as the Alien.
The perdatorian alien skin was my favorite that scream was worth it alone
Predators were OP. Better in melee than aliens, with way more flexibility. They were only inferior in mobility.
Whoops! )
It got a sequel.
It was also fun being the marine in a group playing against the someone using the Predator correctly as it was mad fun and stressful ha.
heard you on that sequel bro, I always come back and replay the campaigns every couple of years and it saddens me we will prob not get a remastered version of this
This game is my childhood, and it's the MOST underrated game I know. I don't know why nobody plays it now, it's so good.
Yeah, I know it's so great, if we got a remaster/remake of it that would be amazing, but I doubt that would happen ;(
Dude, same, it's so fucking good.
This is the remake.@@TheMultiversalDip
@@BenisDD Then let us hope for another!
I hated that one, Predetor 2 was my favourite
Amen!
Predator was so broken it was a joke
It’s still the most OP class
I always felt like what map u where on played a big part aswell really seemed like certain maps favoured one faction or another
The worst part of this game when it was out was how the developers obviously had a massive bias toward preds
Core memory
literally the first lesson they teach you in the alien story to lol
On map with the closing doors and tight hallways, I ran past an alien crouched in the corner of a hallway, thought I saw something weird and looked back, before getting brutally jump scared and killed.
I still think of that moment from time to time, was so crazy!
actual alien behavior, love it.
A note on Infestation: The marines only have a few healing stims, so you CAN wear them down over time.
Just run through and hammer e button, you win
The predator like my friend said, is the hardest species to learn how to play, but when you get a hang of them you will be an unstoppable force.
This! I had a blast learning the predator, absolute blast!
With how far video game graphics have come these days I'm suprised the creators didn't think of remastering it.

I didn't have a PC at the time :/
But I did play it with Savior mod, although I bet that doesn't compare to the experience you're describing in your comment.
@@ragingsaviorkami9862 I started playing it around 2004 or 2005, more toward the end of its life cycle, but you wouldn’t be able to tell because you could always get a full or near full lobby on any game type.
It’s also developed by the same people as Subnautica and takes place in the same universe
Its a great game that I can't recommend playing. The remaining community is god awful and elitist, and, does not welcome new players in the slightest.
The game will eventually die with no new players coming into the game, and, it'll be the fault of that community.

Ah i remember play it in 2019. Good times. I buy it because video from TH-cam
Yeah they removed the tail stunning on PC, my friends and I play it occasionally and it baffled me that they removed the stun.
The predators heavy attack is op and makes him the best species in the game, light attacks from the alien and marine cant stun him, and he is fast asf you just have to learn the movement tech and if you learn to use his weapons correctly hes unstoppable
“Movement tech” really just means glitches and exploits
@@ExpertContrarian L take
Agreed @@Dipping_Eggs
It used to be, but when I played the MP last year, the Alien's tail heavy attack seems to have more range than it did to at launch and they also seem to have nerfed the Predator's leap attack range. I'd say the Aliens have the slight edge in melee, but Predators are still the more OP class overall it's adept at everything.
Yeah, Predator weapons/movement are so skill based, that once you master it, you rule the server. Or at least, used to anyways

This. Infestation was absolutely fucking amazing
It was the best part overall, in my opinion. Tons of fun hearing your teammates, a wall separating you, gun fire, a hiss and scream, and their mic cutting off. Classic
Love it I'm on it now
Taking into account the fact that it's a 14 year old game and was designed for console helps explain a lot. The alien was always my favorite though
yea playing with professional fps players as humans seems like a bad idea
Htwo is a certified Game Reviver at this point. Warfork is alive and well 6 months after the video, I can never thank you enough for that
wonder if the same will happen to this game, would be cool and also would show that a game like this would be played if handled right, Alien may need to be reworked for accessibility/motion sickness reasons but aside from that this game would be pretty good to see getting a remaster
In aliens colonial marines they made the xenomorphs third person it helped with the motion sickness and gameplay
I’m so glad someone else mentioned the 1999 one. I have fond memories of that game.
This game was good but the 2010 remake was iconic imo
Me too! (Read my other comment, I think you might enjoy it) :D I didn't know about the shutter glasses, though! Also considering the dynamic destruction of lights, this game was way ahead of its time.
I was so good at this game back in the day 😅 here’s some tips for y’all newbies that weren’t covered:
-The Alien has a hidden heavy attack that uses its tail.
-Avoid insta-kills since they leave you wide open.
that is AVP2 by monolith, different game
Bet I’d beat you
@@frenkyboydnb
No, it is also in this game. I mainly play as Xenomorph in multiplayer for that very tail attack.
It was cheaty, but trash funny xd
In general great game. Im so want to see next game after all that long years. I dont know why they have stop. Game didnt fail, it was good and still looks great! We need AvP4!
the aliens vs predator games fucked so hard, being able to play as the xenomorph and climb on walls and ceilings was cool as hell
(Games fucked so hard?) Where did you learn words?

This was my first multiplayer game.
A few tips
As a marine your only optiont to "hide" is to turn off your flashlight. Its really easy to spot for predators and whitout it you can suprise them around corners.
Also learning when to block is incredably powerfull in 1v1 s
Aliens NEED to coordinate
You can press R i think to do a little HÆÆÆRGH which can be used a lure or a sugnal for teamates.
For the predator i dont have much to say
Think like a hunter
Pick off survivers of other conflicts
Stun from afar and get in for the kill
Happy hunting

I missed this game so much you brought back the scariest online experience of my life.
I loved to play as the xenomorph, because of the movies i instantly bought the game and grew obsessed, not to mention finding references to the 1970s movie
The predator’s smart disc (the boomerang thing) is actually extremely good if you aim first and then the disc will lock on to a person and chase them
god 2010 avp was so good back in the day, only those who were there understand
that seananners clip was just about the funniest thing kid me ever saw. I love that man
ive wanted this game for so long for the campaigns man, ive got so much nostalgia from watching playthroughs of all 3 campaigns on youtube as well
on steam
Omg yes!! I loved this game as a kid. The Xenomorph was my main
Xenomorph main gang 🤝🤝🤝
Can't thank you enough to bringing this gem recognition!! I remember as a kid I was mesmorized by this game I would always come home and watch videos about it especially the alien campaign.
I have now heard of the game, now you can't say that i have never heard of it
I’m 26, I uses to play at it more than 10 years ago and sometimes I play the campaign.
YES SOMEONE IS TALKING ABOUT THIS I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THIS GAME!!!!!!!!
The Predator really needs a boost to his hp to make him a real threat.
As someone that liked playing the marines a lot, it could feel like a horror movie or an extermination, it always depends on your teammates
If you like that try silica
@@lizardjoe4224 my friend group has been looking into that actually, is it good?
One "somewhat" asymemtrical multiplayer game i can remember is SCP Secret Laboratory, though it is better not to disturb the hornet nest, if you know what i mean.
i dont know what you mean
6:18 magazine
i have thousands of hours on this game from when i was younger (on PC as well) and the Predators were by far the most oppressive believe it or not, seemingly because of how high their skill ceilings were with micro-managing your weapons and visions.
I loved starting infection as the alien.
the amount of times I've heard of or seen a TH-cam title along the lines of "The Best Dead Game You've Never Heard Of" is crazy
I have to point out this asymetrical 3 team Aliens v Predator game was done 2 SEPARATE TIMES Before this one. From my own experience the gameplay is EXTREMELY similar to this one, including the OP Xenomorph and Gun toting Muhreenes. The older games can be grabbed on sale for mere pennies.
not avp 2 I think. Thats abandonware. You can download it for free but not sure if any servers are still running it.
Team revisiting the game to revive it ⬇️⬇️⬇️
the predators with the flying disc is the most broken thing in this game, I use to hard carry with it. This game has an extremely GREAT multiplayer
Batman Arkham Origins also had an asymmetrical multiplayer mode with 3 teams where you could play as the Heroes, Bane or the Joker faction.
I love every moment when yall say the lines "THERE COMMING OUT OF THE WALLS" and "GAME OVER MAN"
Thank you for making a video on this video game.
Happy to see avp get some love! I went into it hard and met some awesome friends playing this game
I remember loving this game when I was younger. As I recall, there was a sequel as well that was pretty good as well.
Iwill never forget when bunch of predators were playing against 1 alien, dude legit wrote in chat "Guys this game is called PredatoR as in 1 vs AlienS as in many , not other way around" the laughter that ensued soiled many undies . One of my core gaming memories :D
Oh hell yeah this game was my childhood back in the PS3 era. I put soo many hours into being a backstabbing bastard of a stealthy xenomorph.
This was a pretty fun game. I remember this from my childhood.
man I remember seeing footage of the multiplayer back in the day and really wanting to play it.
The marines could also get an exo suitl
Also I remember predators being bad even back then. They'd mostly wait for the marines and xenos to fight, then pick off targets in the ensuing chaos.
The campaigns were a lot of fun and I actually remembered some of the maps. People missed out on not getting to play this when it was still alive 😊
Holy crap seeing Seananners playing the hidden hit me with a wave of nostalgia
Glad I'm not the only one who had a blast with this game back in the day
Played this like it was my last time play it everytime. Multiplayer was one I will always remember. The amount of memories and late nights!
