In this video aerial footage filmed with a Dji Mini2 drone, on the railroad next to the sugar highway in the countryside of S.Paulo, near the city of Itu-SP.
CURIOSITY:
Each wagon handles the volume of almost four trucks. In practice, a train made up of 100 wagons replaces 357 trucks. Roads carry 3 times more cargo than rail, but the cost is 6 times higher than the train.
Around the year 1960, the Brazilian rail network reached its peak in terms of track mileage. We had a fantastic 38,000 kilometers of railways spread across Brazil, which means more than eight times the distance from Oiapoque to Chuí.
But even before that period, the locomotive whistles were already losing their mystery. Maintaining and upgrading the railroads required money, which the country had no spare. Private companies were not doing well, and their owners also did not make the necessary investments. The result is that the railroads were getting more and more scrapped, and today, unfortunately, almost all cargo transport in Brazil is done by highways, with many trucks.
