One idea that came to me right away with this oven build Lilly (and probably to you as well), is that if you scaled it up a bit you would have a pretty awesome shelter, using the exact same technique! Like a mud igloo. Call it a Mugloo!

Do you trap or snare animals to supplement the food you pack in? Fish nearby streams or lakes? In the past I have done both but when I pack light on food counting on fishing or trapping I come up empty but when I pack extra food I tend to have success.

That is a cool way to make a oven. Looking forward to see how it works for cooking. You should try to make a bushcraft refrigerator for your camp. It might come in handy on warm summer days. I made a little video about this a while ago that you could watch if you are interested :)

If you would cover the entire inside and outside of the oven with kindling and fire the entire oven until the fire burned out then clear off all the charcoal and ash then that would bake the outside of the clay too which would keep it from cracking because then the outside would be just as hard baked and fired as the inside clay of the oven.

Hi Lilly of the valley. I figured it out as I seen it, but others may have not. The hole on top is a exhaust for the smoke, and st the ends, this differences in hight is so the heat will flow towards the front to cook better.

Hello Lilly, I live in South Africa and recently discovered clay on my property, I have to mine it out as it is at a depth of about 1 1.5 meters under the surface but it is worth every spadeful. I have built a clay oven and a double burner rocket stove my next project is a furnace/kiln a forge and then I'm going to start making charcoal. Clay totally rocks

Take you a few apples, some sugar and cinnamon. Keep whole, split or quarter the apple. Add some of the mixed sugar and cinnamon to the apple and place in aluminum foil. Place it into the fire for a few minutes. Once it has soften and caramelized, add a little more sugar and cinnamon if wanted and eat. A very good camp fire snack.

I know that her dog has now passed away, but she is amazing! Those kind of dogs are ment for outside, and unfortunately, many dog owners keep their dogs inside more than they do outside. She is doing her dog a favor, and taking her dog with her outside, and she is letting the dog explore new things Anne enjoy the outdoors and the fresh air. Great oven by the way. I just subscribed

Hi Lilly, just watched your Canada videos. Just one comment, instead of throwing away the fish bones, crayfish shells try boiling them down and adding wild greens. It makes a really good stock/soup which you can store for a little snack before bed or to dip your Bannock in. Excellent show though, more like extreme camping rather than survival per se, but most excellent. It looks like you had an awesome time. Much love from England.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you have to get used to spiders. They turn up in your house without a warning. I know a fear of spiders is not pleasant, my wife suffers with it, but the more you can expose yourself to them, the less anxious you will feel about them.
They are really beneficial to have as well, they eat all of the annoying pests that share your house and they make beautiful webs, that look especially pretty with frost or dew on. :)
