How true in any martial art, the basics you learn are just as valuable at black belt as they are as a no belt. Basics, practice, conditioning and some form of live practice. The secret.
Words, sentences, paragraphs, essays; so eloquently stated. This has shifted my approach to training BJJ from this point forward. I’m a three-stripe blue belt. I’ve been focusing on my game instead of learning new techniques. In essence, I’m expecting to be able to write essays from a very limited vocabulary, which is a fool’s errand. Now I know that I need to focus on expanding my vocabulary (techniques), then from purple I can work on how to string to words together to form my individual writing style (I.e., stringing together techniques and refining my knowledge of them). As always, thanks for putting out great content. Much appreciated. As salaamu alaykum, akhi.
Fun fact: Eat one left hook and those 600 techniques become 10 at best. It’s funny how it’s 600 techniques on the nose. Not 548. Not 602. A flat 600. That doesn’t seem like a lie at all. Btw, the words, sentences, paragraphs etc metaphor was brilliant.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. I realized that you only need purple. I'm going to save both videos on my play list . Thats why everyone srug there nose at Loyd Irvin. Reason he found the cheat code to learning quick and he self taught his self and a lot of people don't like him for that. The key to BJJ is understanding the self defense white to blue then from blue to purple is what I call safe to Grapple ( BJJ vs BJJ) you should be learning the strikes first then gradually just do grappling vs grappling. But gi grappling with no strikes is ridiculous.
awesome info. it would be nice that at some point you mentioned the moves you consider important to get good at. I wish schools showed their curriculum but I guess they never will…bad for business…
I get the impression you are frustrated or skeptical of the Gracie ranking method, and of course I'm guessing you could suggest an alternative way and your rationale. Would you share that one day?
Belida Uckun: Actually I AGREE with SOME BJJ schools that reward belts to people AFTER placing high in events or grappling evenly with higher belts. If a BLUE BELT comes on the mat like he is the baddest man on the planet and beats all the BLUE BELTS every day on open mat, HE IS A DAMN PURPLE BELT! lol. Give him a PURPLE and let his mind lift him to that level.
i feel what you talk about i a was a white belt an better then a lot of black belt in bjj belt are nothing an in wrestler do not have bit you got better over time love what you talk about your the bust
I really liked your advice that the best way to get good at grappling fast is to focus on Marcelo`s competitions and study them. I wish he had gotten better at striking to see how far he could have gotten in mma. I guess he can be wealthy enough with a bjj school so why risk it But I think bjj guys are slowly paying the price, jordan burroughs and other wrestlers are getting more opportunities to become pros and make a living of wrestling profesionaly. And that`s not happening with bjj. Maybe one of the reasons is that wrestling has proven its value in mma in the last years and bjj hasn`t. On top of that because of how dynamic wrestling is, it`s really fun to watch unlike bjj which sometime can be boring. Wish they added submissions to wrestling, it would be spectacular, like catch wrestling but with more speed and power because of the limited time.
Manny Clav: Unless it is a personal thing, anything higher than a purple belt needs to be thought about for reasons other than just being a black belt.
Thiago Bravo: I believe the REFINEMENT of techniques SHOULD be rewarded with belt promotions. The adding of techniques mean nothing if they are not developed. Know what I mean?
@@TheUmmahFightCamp your right, learning techniques and can not apply it in live sparring does nothing. You refine what works for you not a group of Danher techniques then learn 25 techniques from Eddie Bravo. Thats not how you do it. You learn the basics and just add what your skill level can take. The better your grappling gets then you can add a little more if needed.
Ayurvology: BULL SHIT. You statement was idiotic. If you do not start to understand BJJ until black belt, it is being held back for profit. BJJ is a damn art like anything else lol. You should not have to train 10 years to get beat up by a wrestler.

Makes sense. Brilliant writing analogy. I hope knuckleheads will listen. Great commentary.
Salam abu sayf. Greetings from vienna. You opened my eyes on my bjj way. My deepest regards, yusuf
Glad to hear that
@@TheUmmahFightCamp My question is off topic. I would like your opinion of krav maga as a self defense system. Thank you for your time.
@@Reaching95 Depends on who is teaching it. Over all, I think it is worth looking into.

Two videos in an hour. Thank you sir. Any chance you're doing any boxing content similar to this in the next videos?
Yes, soon. GW

Would you say that pursuing/receiving a Black belt in jiujitsu is a waste of time?

For the love of god start a podcast
thebox: lol! I promise you that I will. GW
cool analogy. hm... if you're learning words at blue belt, does that mean you learn the alphabet at white belt? haha
You believe that rewarding refinement of skill with belts is a bad thing for martial arts? Should it always be about adding of techniques?
