❤I really appreciate the fact that you refrain from making comments about the laos domestic hot topic. You are 100% right! Niam Neej Vam already spoke!
    Love your stories! Much respect!!!

Sister Jenny, this is the reasons why nowadays our generation would always think about putting our parents in seniors home care because of safety and don't want to see them face this kind of issues whenever we're not near them. It's not that we don't love them and don't want them around because we're afraid it can happen to them for their safety when we're not home or away to work just like the experienced of your story told.

But honestly some old folks who are very old, they still go try turn on stove to cook when they not allow to cook anymore I meant doesn’t know how to use stove anymore.

Agree. Many of us Hmong don't understand it. People think it's just an excuse to put the elders in nursing home. However, some of our elders have dementia and can't remember what they were doing, but still would try to cook and forget to turn off the stove. When the children are still young and have full time jobs, they can't be there all the time to watch them. Same with those of us who like to burn candles, not just the elders. Everyone really need to educate themselves.

My in-laws are the same. They are not even old but they get distracted easily so there’s been multiple times they left the stove on and forget about it. My husband has done the same a few times so I don’t trust him home with my kids. Always have to remind my kids to watch their dad and the stove. lol

Do NOT forget the carbon monoxide detector. It goes side by side with the fire detector. Just like a husband and wife.😊

We’ve learned from being foster parents when you have a two story house to have a fire escape ladder that the kids can use from the window to escape. The ladder rolls up and does not take up space. It’s good to have one in each bedroom on the 2nd floor.

Very good tips sister Jenny! I also recommend having a CO2 detector and fire blanket. CO2 detector must be in the hall way before all the bedrooms and fire blanket close by the stove. Also, subscribe to ADT ( if allowed). They watch your home and monitor for fire and CO2 in the home. If they are any smoke/CO2 detected, they will call the appropriate department. **I’m not selling or advertising for ADT. Just speaking from experience.

It’s also very important to have a carbon monoxide detector. Carbon monoxide gas is odorless and can silently kill you. Also need to check a fire extinguisher periodically. These extinguishers do have expiration dates.

Carbon Monoxide detector is very important too. I recall a few older Hmong couples died because they were burning inside their home to stay warm.

Great tips Jenny! I think one of the big misunderstandings about the smoke detector is when it beeps, it means the battery needs to be replaced. When I am watching FB live, and I hear the detector beeping from the seller's live, I have mistaken it so many times for mine!!! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😂. I think a lot of Hmong people don't understand that when it beeps, it means that the battery is dying!!! It does not mean it works!
One more to add to your list, buy a CO2 detector! That is a must-have.

That is good, sister Jenny. I am glad that you hesitated to recommend to the women how to protect themselves from evil men. Since you are not a professional practitioner, you should never advise anyone except be open-minded. Let professional people help them better. The current situation is easy to handle as long as her parents understand the consequences of her life. I am sure the girl's parents know what to do since they are in a Hmong village still practicing traditional methods. The evil man should pay for the price he caused

During Covid, I noticed lots of Facebook people selling online, So many of them have their smoke detectors beeping in the background. I feel a lot of them don’t even know how to change batteries or care that is important to replace batteries on their smoke detectors.

Sister Jenny, I’m in my 60 now. When my family was living in Lao, I’m about 4 years old. My mother got up went to the garden left me and my brother with my uncle. When I got up in the morning I play with a match by the bed where we sleep. I burn the mosquito net, my brother was still sleep in it. He was burn to death. My uncle was sleeping in another room by the time he came to our room, the mosquito already wrap around my brother. I got little burn on my arm. It was so sad. 😥😥

Whatever happens in Laos stay in Laos.
    Its not our problem.
In America, everyone, men and women, keeps your hand to yourself. We are living in a society that says men and women are equal.
So just by that alone, don't hit others. Because they will hit back.

For me: I never leave my kids alone unless it's with my teenager. Even if I leave my kids home, I never allow them to touch the stove even my teenagers. I will cook and always leave them with food. Or I will buy food for them. I never allow them to open doors if its just my kids home. I always tell them "even if it's pog, yawg, niam tais, yawm txiv, aunties or uncles, do not open the door. Whoever is coming will call me and I will call to let you guys know." So my kids never open the door.
We never want anything to happen to our kids while we gone. I feel so sad for that family because no one ever want to come home to hear that news.

Please use proper cookwares to cook food. Do not use Aluminum trays to fry sesame balls. Aluminum trays are soft, and very thin and can be puncture easily. A tray of cooking oil leak down to your propane burner will result in a fatal accident.
Also, when using propane, open the valve on top of the propane tank all the way. Never partially open the valve. Partially open will prevent the built in safety shut off valve to function when there is a sudden rush of propane leak along the hose.

sista Jenny, your story fits exactly this Vang family. They have too many kids around the house while the father was at work, and the mom was exhausted and did not pay attention to the kids. Some of the kids played with the lighter burning paper at the stairs. while the paper was burning, they got scared and went into the room without letting the mom know because they know that they will get into trouble if they did. The mother was so careless still sleeping in the room. When one of the kid yelling, the fire was to big and they all trapped upstair in the room choking. Lightly this is the case because the kids mostly 3, 4, and 5 years old.

I don’t understand why pa Cheng vang and his wife is a teacher they both should teach their children how to get out when the house is on fire? She should know that you can not light the candles at night unattended that is Not acceptable. I have 4 children I always tell my kids if the house is on fire and we have to go outside as fast we can if the door is on fire then use the chair to break the window and just get out and go stay at our neighbors front yard we will meet their. I always check my smoke detector and my co2 detector and always change the battery when we change our clocks I lived in central state so we change our clock 2 times per year
