I'd add to all that the fact that after seeing Revelations many people have probably realized that Classics is the only option for a proper representation of some of their favourite characters in a modern action figure line. I seriously doubt whether the Masterverse will live long enough to release the real King Grayskull or a good looking classic He-Man. Personally I use the Masterverse line to fill in some gaps in my MotUC collection as background characters like Spikor or Stinkor can fit in well enough.
The Masterverse Skelegod and Viking He-Man look to be VERY good fodder for some MOTU Classics customs. I definitely need to come up with a bio for "Guererror, the Wandering He-Man".
@@obsoleteworlds to each their own. I hate how He-Man looks, all lanky and awkward, with an idiotic face sculpt. I honestly don't know what the idea for this figure was as he doesn't even look like the show counterpart. And the Skeletor's skull-face is atrocious with this weird painting. I think characters like Stinkor or Spikor look good as the armor hides the thinnes of their bodies and the monstrous heads seem to be much more proportionate than He-Man's.
Honestly, I'm having trouble getting into new MOTU toys after classics. After getting a definitive edition of virtually every character, there just doesn't seem much point. (the exception being Masterverse because I did want some of the show specific designs)

💯 agree! There's just something about those male & female "Bucks", that make me think you can put damn near *anything* on them and it'll work! Super7 proved that when they ventured into Thundercats and Mattel as well when they did the DKR versions of Batman & Superman. I myself even made a "MOTUC" styled Captain Planet and the sh!t fits! I'd love to see every damn toon & toyline out there done in that "classics" style.
Unfortunately I started collecting Classics around 2017 when Super7 took over. In the last few years I have been getting some figures I really wanted from this incredible line. Most recent get was about a year ago, Classics Fisto and let me tell you that was expensive. This line is one of my absolute favorites ever, the detailed sculpting was so good. This perfect line ended in grand fashion with the incredible Snake Mountain, which is the centerpiece of my collection! Thanks Scott for your part in making this awesome line!
I hate this “well since I don’t like it…. It’s stupid” attitude…. I mean, there’s a ton of product that doesn’t interest me…. But I don’t think it shouldn’t be produced…..
Every new Wave of Origins I see, I look on E-bay and tell my self to stay strong. It will come to Wal-mart or Toy-r-us in Canada...some day. I would order the figures from Mattel directly...
I feel you. Tired of seeing all the same randoms at Walmart or toys r us. EBay and even Amazon is really expensive now too. We always get stiffed in Canada, anyway. Nothing good ever reaches our shelves.
@@The-Thran same. I’ve only been able to get a few at Walmart and toys are us. Got vintage sculpt heman for $14 at toys r us last week. Even started collecting the minis and those are the same story.
I would guess it's for a similar reason that the Horsemen's Mythic Legions line is able to continue to grow and deepen its bench. It's direct to consumer and fan supported.
Why wouldn't Mattel just replicate the Classics line and biz model? Use the same bucks. Sell online and thru subscription. Maybe change the art of the box into the more classic red look to differentiate as a "2nd Printing" but basically, a reprint. What holds Mattel back, do you think?
Once again, the pegs remained empty here locally in all of our stores for over a year. Wave one was the major order the first year, then nothing for over a year after that.
I think Classics has done so well, simply because they are the best looking figures ... and because they are harder to get a hold of. Rarity creates demand. I've been looking for a good deal on Stinkor for like 8 months... every time someone sells him at auction, he ALWAYS goes for more than the last one.
I collect Origins and at first I was saddened by the prospect of the line cancellation. But looking at my collection, apart from Whiplash, some Horde members and Extandar, I have pretty much the all stuff I need. And I can always customize some of them by mixing parts from Origins and the original line, like I did for my battle armor Tri-clops. To me, the compatibility with the original line was what convinced me to buy Origins instead of Classic. Oh and like you said the price tag too! :)
Here is my question, since there is a demand and they already have the molds. Can't they just recycle the molds and offer it at retail at a competitive price? Im talking re-releasing MOTUC, no new figures.
Molds are melted down and recycled. I would highly doubt any of them still exist. Even B. Flynn from S7 said they had to completely remake several of the main molds when they picked up MOTU…and that was many years ago.
Melting down molds? Where is this stated? According to Scott, the molds cost 100's of 1000's of dollars. Why on Earth would they destroy such expensive tooling?
@@rxz4140 molds are steel. Steel is infinitely recyclable. It also rust and cost lots of money to maintain and store. Therefore many of them are melted down to create new molds. I’ve heard Mattel is pretty aggressive about recycling molds.
I was late to Classics (only 2 years ago) but with every new Masterverse release I'm happier and happier in my decision to have a small curated Classics collection of just my favourites even if I've paid eBay prices for all 28 of them. Just the main originals and a few personal favourites. Masterverse is such a huge step backwards. I'd rather pay more and smile every time I look at them than spend less but know in my heart of hearts that there are better versions of them out there.
Didn't get into MOTU before last year when I watched litreally every show in anticipation of Revelation, which then disappointed me quite a bit. Nevertheless, the point is I didn't even know about Classics until last year and by then well... its too expensive. I've collected some Origins and some Masterverse, but its hard to comit when I'm unsure about the future.
I kinda feel the same way.... Except then I realized that if a line could potentially end soon, then that means there's a good chance I would be able to get all the released figures from it that I wanted.
Like some, when Classics was available, I was not in a place financially to support it. I am now, and my son is getting into Masters, so I've taken a look around thinking I'd maybe purchase some of the Classics figures for him for his birthday and Christmas this year, but the prices are ridiculous. It's a shame because those figures look amazing.
Yes. Unfortunately, the online-only distribution combined with relatively small product runs combined with extremely short release windows pretty much shuts out pretty much anyone who comes in late.
One of the aspects missed here is that the Classics sculpts and decos were so good too, and a common scale. I wish I were collecting then. While I'm loving some of my Masterverse, it doesn't have the same consistency. For example, i have Skeletor because it's Skeletor, but the figure's head is weird.
I looked on eBay at getting some of the classics line ( really kicking myself for not being a collector at this time in life) but I want my kids to be able to go to college. If only I had a time machine I’d go back and tell myself to collect this whole line. Masterverse is going to have to do for me. By the way I really love this channel and the content it’s so insightful.
I got my MOTUC collection man, but I agree, dont go back for' em.. Collecting Masterverse feels like how MOTUC then, & they blend well together...Revelations fulfills that dream of finding Classics in stores..In no time, they'd appreciate as well.
i have a feeling that Mattel will bring the Filmation line back in the future after Masterverse, probably online only just to make sure they sell. the sad thing is a lot of kids today are being raised to play with cellphones and computers. now it's the collector's buying up these action figures these days, only a few kids play with toy's in this era sadly.
Do you have kids? Cause my niece and nephew both spend time playing with all of my action figures rather than their tablets. Kids still play with toys, or they wouldn't continue to stock them.
8:50 That and there's the inherent issue with increasing demand for Classics figures despite the smaller production runs compared to current MotU lines, or contemporary lines as Scott highlighted.
Classics should comeback online somehow.I myself don't know how but even if it's just like those commemorative sets like they did for the vintage line a while back the classics should return
Definitely a video that needed to be made. Thank you! Words cannot express how grateful and relieved I am that I got into MOTU Classics at the very beginning and stayed until nearly the end, and only have about five items left to get to complete my collection, because otherwise, I would be in despair of ever doing so. And also that I picked up multiples of several figures (and on a few occasion, whole subscriptions) along the way for dioramas and customisations, and can trade one for a kidney, if need be. 😉
I was overseas for the initial years Classics came out. I missed out on all the main characters. A few years ago as money permitted I'd started getting a Classic here or there on the secondary market. However, with Masterverse being close enough in scale I'm opting to get those as possible. If that line ends prematurely I'll go back to Classics to grab up the gaps in my collection as I'm able. Thank goodness I won't need to pay for a Classics Fisto. However I think I'll need Beastman unless they give us one closer to his *ahem* classic look.
I am definitely envious of anyone who got in on MOTU classics from day 1. Unfortunately in 2008 I had neither the financial ability nor the space to support it. Now I at least have the money to support what the monthly service would be. Not the aftermarket price, oh well. I have my modernTransformers collection that I have been rebuilding since 2016, and am quite happy with it.
I had the opposite problem. I was in MOTUC from Day 1, but couldn't afford to continue in the last waning days, so the four or five things I have left to get are very rare and going to be PAINFUL to get.
@@Beedo_Sookcool That is unfortunate, but patience will pay off. I too have a short list of 4 or 5 Transformers items that are super rare exclusives, which means even if they are only a few years old, they are really expensive. Even if I can only get one item a year, ill keep chipping away at my list.
I've never seen any Origins on clearance though. Masterverse either, come to think of it..... Does each store have to meet a set requirement to clearance something out? It just seems like clearancing something isn't company-wide.
@Spector Creative As you are now making a regular habit of predicting the end of the Origins line, do you think any future waves will be released after the current one (Wave 8)? As we all know, more Origins figures have been leaked recently e.g. Mantenna, Pig head, Digatino, Whiplash, Trap Jaw (Mini-comics), King Randor and 200X Skeletor. Also remembering the tooling exists for a Grizzlor to be released also. So, with your industry knowledge and expertise etc. do you think these figures will never see the light of day, when it all comes to a screeching halt due to lack of kid interest?
There is just something different about MOTUC. When you pick one up you feel the heft. I was lucky enough to get into MOTUC just in time. That Mattel ebay store and Wal-Mart had crazy clearance prices back in 2017.
It's because of Classics that my MOTU purchasing choices are what they are. I only plan on getting the three Masterverse figures I have and any of the 'bad guys" from Origins. I consider my MOTU character roster as complete thanks to Classics.
I totally get how the online sell was perfect for this collector's line, but it is the major factor that I only have 4 classics despite loving them. To this day, I think of online shopping and using credit cards as a last resort to proper shopping (in store with cash) and that's really hurt my movie and toy collecting. I didn't even hear about this line until it way in and then didn't try to find them until we were in the Super 7 era. But that's just me. I'm a near Luddite (who happens to watch TH-cam).
I love my classics collection, thank you for helping us get such a wonderful line. I would love to know how many of each figure were made.....few hundred... Thousands...or more?
They keep putting the latest origins wave on the back wall at my Target in the adult collector section rather than the toy aisle, the toy aisle just has the older orgins waves (and hardly any of them,)
I got in with origins and am glad I did. The prices for classics is ridiculous and I'm finally able to get my hands on motu stuff I've wanted for years.
Glad I got multiples of all the MOTUC releases. I'm still buying Masterverse figures and Origins here and there, but I could quit those tomorrow and still be satisfied with what I've got. I won't be selling any of my MOTUC anytime soon.
Classics line is awesome! I feel very lucky to have two complete sets but always felt annoyed that the line ended incomplete, no Dark face grizzlor or Mantisaur!!
Well, if you've got two complete sets, get some brown dye, some milk-chocolate-coloured paint and some dark-chocolate coloured paint, and MAKE a Dark Grizzlor. That's on my to-do list, when I get the chance. 😉
Part of what prevents me from buying online is the shipping cost. Most of the toys I buy I open, so I really don't love paying shipping, duty fees and conversion rates for cardboard and plastic that im going to recycle. Do you see any future where companies ship thier product in like, poly bags, directly to thier consumers if the consumer chooses? Big packages make for a great retail statement but also burn a giant hole in your wallet when you buy online
I love my classics. Most of them are damn near perfect. Does anyone think they are ever going to release a 200x Sorceress action figure in any form besides that little statue
That would be AWESOME. I've got nearly the full run, so they probably wouldn't release anything I don't already have, but it would be great for loads of other people, I'm sure!
I go to Walmart and Target all the time looking for toys I collect and YES I see alot of MOTU all 3 lines, kids, revelation and origins peg warming... Target clearances the toys sooner than Walmart. I saw a revelation battle cat on clearance at Target for $11.00 today, normal $40😳 thank you for the video's 🇺🇸👍
I’d imagine the new content has created more interest and the line was very good, limited in supply and a lot of people won’t want to sell theirs, so the prices will maintain a certain profit.
My area Walmarts seem to keep getting re-stock of the Fisto/Evil-lyn wave. And now they are clogging the shelf along with Ram Man and Clamp Champ. Meanwhile it appears that wave 6 has come and gone (if it came at all), and wave 7 has had limited distribution, randomly showing up at the odd Walmart store. Can I hope that wave 6 and 7 are sitting in the stock room, or am I out of luck? 😬 Ram Man and Clamp Champ went on sale for briefly after Christmas but are regular price again. Meanwhile, a new vehicle like Landshark is half price, but Windraider and Panthor are still regular price. I want to say that this is a good sign that Walmart is not just clearing it all out, but the fact that we seem to be missing two waves does not instill confidence. 🤷♂️
@@spectorcreative1872 Agreed. The earlier cases that alternated between Trap Jaw & Man-E-Faces, and Scareglow & Orko (for example) made things interesting too. Every Walmart in my area had Trap Jaw & Man-E-Faces, but never Scareglow & Orko (as far as I was able to discern between myself and sightings posted online). It has been an interesting line to collect.
Im glad I collected when Matty was on fire and kept pumping out the Motu Classics! It was the Best line ever and so much fun to get the next figure. Now its....good luck if you can get a main villian on ebay. I got mine!
I keep hearing about the poor sales of MotU at retail, but at my stores it is booming. Lots of teens & 20 somethings shopping the aisle too. I live in Appalachia, so take that for what it's worth. I have some background in biz(PostGrad & yrs in retail) & many of these reasons for it eventual failure are real reasons, but is this what we are actually seeing? There are so many things confusing the traditional market that I think any premature conclusions on these "doomed" products/toys is just that: speculation. I truly mean that. We need to check out Mattel's quarterlies before saying things like, "Oh, MotU is showing up heavily in the Mattel Store, so it's going under!". That's silly. Especially considering that those stores are barely of souvenir store quality.
It's the same issues with Transformers. Not a lot made, not a lot stocked and sold out quickly. Check out the prices on Siege Ironhide or Ratchet, Earthrise Greenlight and any of the store/online exclusive sets.
You could also make the argument that it is the best line to fit in with all the other 6-7" lines that everyone has committed to these days. Hence why it's still so popular. That being said, I started my collection late but still got most of them for reasonable prices in lots. Unfortunately I sat on them and never opened and now I feel like like I can't just open the Scareglow I bought for $50 and enjoy it when it's a $400 figure MIB. The line is a bit of a curse in that way. Starting to feel like I don't need the actual figs and I can just enjoy Pixel Dan's book...
Man, I love the look of the MOTUC figures, but only managed to get a He-Man from Mattycollector, at a time I wasn't really collecting and really couldn't afford to buy him. I spent years looking for a Skeletor and had to get the Molar two pack and a recast head on ebay, to assemble one for under $200. I used to browse ebay looking for deals, but I pretty much gave up trying to get any more years ago.
I only have one question, why SUPER7 have the molds of the Classics figures, and used in Conan, Toxic Avenger, Thundercats and Ninja Turtles, and Mattel can´t do it???
I know I was pretty lucky. I was mostly looking for Teela's. This was almost 2 years ago so I'm sure they are much more now. I got the Teela with the long ponytail for $25 and the blonde Teela for $30. Last I looked each of those were $50-$60 minimum.
The origins line is been released according to tooling that's why they had to combine the masters of the WWE with origins to get all that tooling used up I predict we will see about 80 figures before they cancel the line I never thought that figures made in the 2000s would be worth more then '70s and '80s figures
After MOTU Origins, what is stopping Mattel from re-releasing classics with the new pinless technology? That Revelation He-man base is pinless but Classics are still a superior body and face sculpture. Those huge pins are really dating classics though as even Marvel Legends is slowly going pinless. Progress is inevitable and eventually we have to get to a MOTU line with seamless articulation like Storm Collectible Death Adder.
What sucks is the amount of characters you can only get through Classics. Veena is a good example of a character who'll just never get a figure again. I was able to snag one (boxed) on Ebay for $100, but still, I wish that wasn't my only option.
They are on sale at retail because overstock battle cat but have no cyclopes, stratos and sorceress. We are all having to buy Mr T on 2nd scalpers market. Mattel's problem may have always been their inflexible distribution model. I know it's them because I do not have this with McFarlane or other lines.
Like myself, I feel like a good deal of original MOTU fans missed out on the classics wave; especially considering that it was a strictly online market at the time. I feel that as they have reached middle age with families, and are exploring nostalgia, they would be a ripe market for a classics reboot. The average original MOTU fan would have been around thrity years old when the classics line was launched. I feel like more eyes would be on the line now than at the time it was released, and ultimately ended.
I really wish I knew about the Classic figures back in the bay. I've looked at a few of the figures on the after market thinking I could pick some up. I've look at the Revelations figures the other day at Target and it didn't really do anything for me. Looks like I'm sticking with my Age of Apocalypse and other Marvel Legends figures.
I only finally broke down and bought and continue to buy lines like Revelation and Origins is my rose colored nostalgia glasses. I was the complete opposite. I set out to help my fellow He-Man fans and sell my extra figures at a reasonable price. I did find my limit when I sold 10 Wind Raiders.
Good Morning Scott. It's trade-offs. With the new CGI toys, you can get the for $10 each. You can buy a whole wave or more for the cost of one Classics figure. How bad does a fan want that one figure?
Bypassing retail was probably the best thing about classics. The only reason I have the breadth of characters in that line (almost all of them) is because I didn't have to fight scammers scalpers and bad distribution.
How does this work with a line that is as successful as marvel legends at retail for example since you mentioned it. Is it because it is indeed at retail or does marvel reach a wider audience?
Classics have gone up because origins brought back a lot of motu fans. Fans that 10 years ago had no clue they existed, thanks to a certain scott that couldn’t do more to get the word out. Now they look for motu products and come across classics. There is a cap on classics. It’s not that they’ve gone up, they’ve been selling for high prices for years. I sold a classics figure for $250 3 years ago. Those of us selling classics are just gonna keep pushing prices up not because the figures are that special but because ppl will pay outrageous amounts for a plastic figure. Capitalism at its finest. Give origins 10 years and they too will be selling for crazy amounts.
It's true. DCUC, the JLU line, MOTUC are really the only modern lines that are complete, definitive and expansive. Marvel Legends and some NECA stuff like TMNT and Predators are getting there. But I don't see MOTUO reaching that milestone. Not even sure if we'll even see basic Snake Men characters before fizzling out or we start seeing them as Mattel Creation exclusives.
Considering that Motu Classics weren't widely available at retail and obviously weren't produced in the same quantities as Marvel Legends it's easy to see how the scarcity of an item targeted directly at collectors (i.e. toy speculators) would increase in asking price due to supply and demand. I'm more impressed when I see figures that were widely released and available at retail double and triple in asking price on the secondary market. In that regard, I think that Marvel Legends still has Motu Classics beat 💁♂️💥🤣👍
In my area (northern NJ), the only Origins I see on clearance is Battle Cat. In fact, you really never see any figures at all. Once in a while, you see 3-4 Battle Armor Skeletors, and that’s about it. You’ll never see anything good on the pegs in 2 consecutive visits. They’re just gobbled up here.
I wish I had known about MOTUC 20 years ago, so i never collected them (sorry, Scott 😞 ). I saw some figures on the Toys R' Us shelf and they weren't the figures I was familiar with from my childhood, so I passed on them. I was focused on Star Wars at the time and didn't think to look up MOTUC online, otherwise I probably would have picked some up, even though I was already financially strained (thanks, George Lucas). On a side note, Scott, have you ever done a video about the Muppets figures from around the 2000-2005 era?
Personally I had a hard time getting figures originally before they sold out. I didn't know certain figures were made til I visited more toy & sci-fi cons; hell, even this channel revealed more! I love these sculpts but hate how pricey they've become!
Im really sad i didn't knew about the collection back then, iwould love to have them, such amazing figures!! Thanks for the video, BTW why do you think laser he-man classics seems underrated in US? To me is like a treasure (my only classcis figure i own, double pack and laser skeletor), you have no idea how much i like 'em :))))))) Great figures, thanks for producing them
. . . unless you're talking about just plain old He-Man and Skeletor, as opposed to Battle Armour, Dragon Blaster, Flying Fists, etc. In which case, whenever they get reissued, they get a luttle burst saying "The Original!" on the card. 😉
I'd add to all that the fact that after seeing Revelations many people have probably realized that Classics is the only option for a proper representation of some of their favourite characters in a modern action figure line. MattyCollector team
3. Online sales were very successful
And appreciated
I can feel you patting yourself on the back through this video.
And you’re right to. You’re absolutely right to. What a grand line.
I am just glad the line exists!
I hear that I have missed so many waves,. Still trying to get the wave 1 releases I just budget harder and wish I could buy direct from Mattel.
@@The-Thran same. I’ve only been able to get a few at Walmart and toys are us. Got vintage sculpt heman for $14 at toys r us last week. Even started collecting the minis and those are the same story.
A good way to gage
I would guess it's for a similar reason that the Horsemen's Mythic Legions line is able to continue to grow and deepen its bench. It's direct to consumer and fan supported.
Mythic Legions also is round when people are just more aware and plugged into the internet. Like the super 7 line
Exactly. Avoids retail
Why wouldn't Mattel just replicate the Classics line and biz model? Use the same bucks. Sell online and thru subscription. Maybe change the art of the box into the more classic red look to differentiate as a "2nd Printing" but basically, a reprint. What holds Mattel back, do you think?
Because it does not generate enough revenue to justify the head count
Once again, the pegs remained empty here locally in all of our stores for over a year. Wave one was the major order the first year, then nothing for over a year after that.
That is because they already sold their monthly quota
I think Classics has done so well, simply because they are the best looking figures ... and because they are harder to get a hold of. Rarity creates demand. I've been looking for a good deal on Stinkor for like 8 months... every time someone sells him at auction, he ALWAYS goes for more than the last one.
And it had the Horsemen
I bought MOTUC for a reason; a perfect link to childhood. Not selling my collection!
I would never!
This is so true, reality vs expectations!.. great vid as always.
Thank you! Any help sharing is most appreciated
Love the Classics! I miss them. Got a few but not NEARLY enough..glad I got the fee I did though. Thank you, Toy Guri for another awesome video!!👏👏👏
That is a great way to look at it
Here is my question, since there is a demand and they already have the molds.
@@lamcarter Damn...
@@lamcarter I think Super 7 is still using them, most ultimates have MOTUC parts.
I am still holding out hope
Didn't get into MOTU before last year when I watched litreally every show in anticipation of Revelation, which then disappointed me quite a bit. Nevertheless, the point is I didn't even know about Classics until last year and by then well... its too expensive. I've collected some Origins and some Masterverse, but its hard to comit when I'm unsure about the future.
I kinda feel the same way.... Except then I realized that if a line could potentially end soon, then that means there's a good chance I would be able to get all the released figures from it that I wanted.
Never too late!
Nice
And I agree
Id love to know where you are seeing origins at clearance.. please pick me up some...
Target and Walmart
Pretty much I have to buy all my online now. My Walmart hasn’t gotten anything since October of masters the universe.
Darn
Because they were collector toys. There was never the same quantity of them as there were "toys".
And their you go
Easy. They look better than anything for sale (Excluding Mondo and statues). You guys did a great job and I had no idea these were being sold.
So much love went into Classics
Like some, when Classics was available, I was not in a place financially to support it. I am now, and my son is getting into Masters, so I've taken a look around thinking I'd maybe purchase some of the Classics figures for him for his birthday and Christmas this year, but the prices are ridiculous. It's a shame because those figures look amazing.
Yes. Unfortunately, the online-only distribution combined with relatively small product runs combined with extremely short release windows pretty much shuts out pretty much anyone who comes in late.
Maybe it is not too late!
All the Horsemen
I looked on eBay at getting some of the classics line ( really kicking myself for not being a collector at this time in life) but I want my kids to be able to go to college. If only I had a time machine I’d go back and tell myself to collect this whole line. Masterverse is going to have to do for me. By the way I really love this channel and the content it’s so insightful.
I got my MOTUC collection man, but I agree, dont go back for' em.. Collecting Masterverse feels like how MOTUC then, & they blend well together...Revelations fulfills that dream of finding Classics in stores..In no time, they'd appreciate as well.
I imagine it will only go up
Definitely, MOTUC is up there, theyre my most prized collection..not going to sell it. Glad I got those from Mattyc. thanks Toy Guru!
Made with so much love
Selling my MOTU Classics got me through furlough during lockdown. So, I guess I can thank you for that. lol
Well anything that becomes positive
@@spectorcreative1872 I miss them, but I'm back to work and enjoying Origins, so I'm thankful there's MOTU in my life.
I'd like to have one of those little Castle Grey Skull containers the mini figures came in. I'm not a fan of He-Man but I like castles.
Who doesn’t like castles!
i have a feeling that Mattel will bring the Filmation line back in the future after Masterverse, probably online only just to make sure they sell. the sad thing is a lot of kids today are being raised to play with cellphones and computers. now it's the collector's buying up these action figures these days, only a few kids play with toy's in this era sadly.
Do you have kids? Cause my niece and nephew both spend time playing with all of my action figures rather than their tablets. Kids still play with toys, or they wouldn't continue to stock them.
@@talsine That's why at the end i said "only a few Kids" i didn't say all kids
If their is enough time left!
8:50 That and there's the inherent issue with increasing demand for Classics figures despite the smaller production runs compared to current MotU lines, or contemporary lines as Scott highlighted.
And very unlikely to be repeated
Classics should comeback online somehow.I myself don't know how but even if it's just like those commemorative sets like they did for the vintage line a while back the classics should return
Alas it does not do enough revenue to justify the head count
Definitely a video that needed to be made. Thank you!
Words cannot express how grateful and relieved I am that I got into MOTU Classics at the very beginning and stayed until nearly the end, and only have about five items left to get to complete my collection, because otherwise, I would be in despair of ever doing so. And also that I picked up multiples of several figures (and on a few occasion, whole subscriptions) along the way for dioramas and customisations, and can trade one for a kidney, if need be. 😉
It was a train one needed to get on early
I was overseas for the initial years Classics came out. I missed out on all the main characters. A few years ago as money permitted I'd started getting a Classic here or there on the secondary market. However, with Masterverse being close enough in scale I'm opting to get those as possible. If that line ends prematurely I'll go back to Classics to grab up the gaps in my collection as I'm able. Thank goodness I won't need to pay for a Classics Fisto. However I think I'll need Beastman unless they give us one closer to his *ahem* classic look.
Overseas might have been the best place to get wave 2!
It was a “get in early” type of line
I've never seen any Origins on clearance though. Masterverse either, come to think of it..... Does each store have to meet a set requirement to clearance something out? It just seems like clearancing something isn't company-wide.
Here is hoping it continues to sell
I am just calling what I see.
Motu&Pop Ever And Forever In Whole Our Lifes Until The End!
We Have The Power!
We Have The Honor!
(By Cesare Vivi 🇮🇹)!
Amen!
The MOTU 2.0 figures have also gone up in price and value I recently saw a new and sealed Filmation He-man for around $350 on Ebay!🤔
Crazy!!!
Great and very informative video :) I like it :) Happy Sunday my friend :)
And to you!
There is just something different about MOTUC. When you pick one up you feel the heft. I was lucky enough to get into MOTUC just in time. That Mattel ebay store and Wal-Mart had crazy clearance prices back in 2017.
Well it was made with love!
Let’s just say that I wish I had gotten Classics Scare-Glow back in the day.
Okay! Let’s say that
great video...can you do your top 10/20 classic figures all time
I’ll add that to the list!
Approx. how many units did each figure get made? How many units of e.g. He-Man vs. Fisto?
Alas that is proprietary info for Mattel
I'm hoping both Origins & Revelations continues for at least three more years. For Gods sake man, I still have some wall space in my house.
Me too 100%
Stellar work as always thank you so much. Where did all the tooling go for the classics lines?
Tossed and sold as scrap. Too expensive to store
Here you go again, Scott. Everytime you put out something related to classics, get the MOTU itch that I have to scratch.
It’s a curse
It's because of Classics that my MOTU purchasing choices are what they are. I only plan on getting the three Masterverse figures I have and any of the 'bad guys" from Origins. I consider my MOTU character roster as complete thanks to Classics.
I still have not gotten one. Maybe one day
I totally get how the online sell was perfect for this collector's line, but it is the major factor that I only have 4 classics despite loving them.
Well at least we get the info
I love my classics collection, thank you for helping us get such a wonderful line. I would love to know how many of each figure were made.....few hundred... Thousands...or more?
Alas that is proprietary information mattel does not give out
They keep putting the latest origins wave on the back wall at my Target in the adult collector section rather than the toy aisle, the toy aisle just has the older orgins waves (and hardly any of them,)
Well that is a place it will perform better
Question for Toy Guru: If MOTU stalls out at retail, do you think Mattel will try to keep the lines going on Mattel Creations, or just let them die?
I don’t think Mattel can dedicate a full time brand manager to this as the revenue isn’t there
Am I ever going to get Ram-man and 2-bad in megaconstrux form? Maybe before I die
And Frosta.... yeah right
Nope
I got in with origins and am glad I did. The prices for classics is ridiculous and I'm finally able to get my hands on motu stuff I've wanted for years.
I never would have thought they would get this high
@@spectorcreative1872 try being a trasnformer collector too. The market is assinine for all hobbies anymore.
Glad I got multiples of all the MOTUC releases. I'm still buying Masterverse figures and Origins here and there, but I could quit those tomorrow and still be satisfied with what I've got. I won't be selling any of my MOTUC anytime soon.
Worth their value
Classics line is awesome! I feel very lucky to have two complete sets but always felt annoyed that the line ended incomplete, no Dark face grizzlor or Mantisaur!!
Well, if you've got two complete sets, get some brown dye, some milk-chocolate-coloured paint and some dark-chocolate coloured paint, and MAKE a Dark Grizzlor. That's on my to-do list, when I get the chance. 😉
My feelings too
You think they’ll ever be worthless??
Part of what prevents me from buying online is the shipping cost.
Most of the toys I buy I open, so I really don't love paying shipping, duty fees and conversion rates for cardboard and plastic that im going to recycle.
Do you see any future where companies ship thier product in like, poly bags, directly to thier consumers if the consumer chooses?
Big packages make for a great retail statement but also burn a giant hole in your wallet when you buy online
That they do!!
I love my classics. Most of them are damn near perfect. Does anyone think they are ever going to release a 200x Sorceress action figure in any form besides that little statue
Me too
I wonder if Mattel or Super7 would ever consider commemorative releases of MOTUC? I hope so.
That would be AWESOME. I've got nearly the full run, so they probably wouldn't release anything I don't already have, but it would be great for loads of other people, I'm sure!
Well Super 7 doesn’t have the license
I go to Walmart and Target all the time looking for toys I collect and YES I see alot of MOTU all 3 lines, kids, revelation and origins peg warming... Target clearances the toys sooner than Walmart. I saw a revelation battle cat on clearance at Target for $11.00 today, normal $40😳 thank you for the video's 🇺🇸👍
You are welcome! abs any help sharing these videos is most appreciated
I’d imagine the new content has created more interest and the line was very good, limited in supply and a lot of people won’t want to sell theirs, so the prices will maintain a certain profit.
Content drives everything
My area Walmarts seem to keep getting re-stock of the Fisto/Evil-lyn wave. And now they are clogging the shelf along with Ram Man and Clamp Champ. Meanwhile it appears that wave 6 has come and gone (if it came at all), and wave 7 has had limited distribution, randomly showing up at the odd Walmart store.
Can I hope that wave 6 and 7 are sitting in the stock room, or am I out of luck? 😬
Ram Man and Clamp Champ went on sale for briefly after Christmas but are regular price again. Meanwhile, a new vehicle like Landshark is half price, but Windraider and Panthor are still regular price.
I want to say that this is a good sign that Walmart is not just clearing it all out, but the fact that we seem to be missing two waves does not instill confidence. 🤷♂️
Distribution on this line has been… interesting
I got mine!
It really was a « you need to be on board » line
I certainly hope this is the case!
I have a Classics Skeletor that I might look at selling, what are they going for these days?
eBay tends to be thé vert gage. Check « sold » items
It's the same issues with Transformers. Not a lot made, not a lot stocked and sold out quickly. Check out the prices on Siege Ironhide or Ratchet, Earthrise Greenlight and any of the store/online exclusive sets.
Great example
You could also make the argument that it is the best line to fit in with all the other 6-7" lines that everyone has committed to these days. Hence why it's still so popular. That being said, I started my collection late but still got most of them for reasonable prices in lots. Unfortunately I sat on them and never opened and now I feel like like I can't just open the Scareglow I bought for $50 and enjoy it when it's a $400 figure MIB. The line is a bit of a curse in that way. Starting to feel like I don't need the actual figs and I can just enjoy Pixel Dan's book...
And that was deliberate
Man, I love the look of the MOTUC figures, but only managed to get a He-Man from Mattycollector, at a time I wasn't really collecting and really couldn't afford to buy him. I spent years looking for a Skeletor and had to get the Molar two pack and a recast head on ebay, to assemble one for under $200. I used to browse ebay looking for deals, but I pretty much gave up trying to get any more years ago.
Well maybe just maybe they will be back
People have realized Classics won’t be topped anytime soon, if ever.
Very much so
I only have one question, why SUPER7 have the molds of the Classics figures, and used in Conan, Toxic Avenger, Thundercats and Ninja Turtles, and Mattel can´t do it???
Because Classics is in license as a toy line it is not entertainment based like marvel or Dc
Why didn't Origins just re-use the Classics sculpts & bring them to a wider audience?
Because of the Funko DC Savage world line
I have and MAN 🤯
Indeed
As soon as the line stopped and these new ones started, people were like I'm rich. Let's raise the price.
Well it happens
I know I was pretty lucky. I was mostly looking for Teela's. This was almost 2 years ago so I'm sure they are much more now. I got the Teela with the long ponytail for $25 and the blonde Teela for $30. Last I looked each of those were $50-$60 minimum.
Indeed you are!
The origins line is been released according to tooling that's why they had to combine the masters of the WWE with origins to get all that tooling used up
I predict we will see about 80 figures before they cancel the line I never thought that figures made in the 2000s would be worth more then '70s and '80s figures
And if it performed better it would likely get more tooling
After MOTU Origins, what is stopping Mattel from re-releasing classics with the new pinless technology? That Revelation He-man base is pinless but Classics are still a superior body and face sculpture. Those huge pins are really dating classics though as even Marvel Legends is slowly going pinless. Progress is inevitable and eventually we have to get to a MOTU line with seamless articulation like Storm Collectible Death Adder.
Cost, effort
I've gotten two MOTU Classics figures off eBay so far; they were pretty pricey.
And did they meet expectations?
What sucks is the amount of characters you can only get through Classics. Veena is a good example of a character who'll just never get a figure again. I was able to snag one (boxed) on Ebay for $100, but still, I wish that wasn't my only option.
That is right on point
They are on sale at retail because overstock battle cat but have no cyclopes, stratos and sorceress. We are all having to buy Mr T on 2nd scalpers market. Mattel's problem may have always been their inflexible distribution model. I know it's them because I do not have this with McFarlane or other lines.
I finally saw TriKlops at retail. Not bad
I am so disappointed that I did not get in on classics.
Great video.
Their is still hope
Like myself, I feel like a good deal of original MOTU fans missed out on the classics wave; especially considering that it was a strictly online market at the time. I feel that as they have reached middle age with families, and are exploring nostalgia, they would be a ripe market for a classics reboot. The average original MOTU fan would have been around thrity years old when the classics line was launched. I feel like more eyes would be on the line now than at the time it was released, and ultimately ended.
Pretty much how it went down
I really wish I knew about the Classic figures back in the bay. I've looked at a few of the figures on the after market thinking I could pick some up. I've look at the Revelations figures the other day at Target and it didn't really do anything for me. Looks like I'm sticking with my Age of Apocalypse and other Marvel Legends figures.
I wish we had had more marketing funds!
They get roser all the Time
Good Morning Scott. It's trade-offs. With the new CGI toys, you can get the for $10 each. You can buy a whole wave or more for the cost of one Classics figure. How bad does a fan want that one figure?
A good way to put it
Bypassing retail was probably the best thing about classics.
The only reason I have the breadth of characters in that line (almost all of them) is because I didn't have to fight scammers scalpers and bad distribution.
It never would have worked at retail
How does this work with a line that is as successful as marvel legends at retail for example since you mentioned it. Is it because it is indeed at retail or does marvel reach a wider audience?
Marvel legends is tied to current movie content
You certainly post about things
Classics are still the best. Feels like good quality, looks like good quality, great sculpts, great size Etc.
It was made with so much love
True indeed
Considering that Motu Classics weren't widely available at retail and obviously weren't produced in the same quantities as Marvel Legends it's easy to see how the scarcity of an item targeted directly at collectors (i.e. toy speculators) would increase in asking price due to supply and demand. I'm more impressed when I see figures that were widely released and available at retail double and triple in asking price on the secondary market. In that regard, I think that Marvel Legends still has Motu Classics beat 💁♂️💥🤣👍
Exactly
Legends will Only continue to get better
In my area (northern NJ), the only Origins I see on clearance is Battle Cat. In fact, you really never see any figures at all. Once in a while, you see 3-4 Battle Armor Skeletors, and that’s about it. You’ll never see anything good on the pegs in 2 consecutive visits. They’re just gobbled up here.
The higher price skus always get clearances first
I wish I had known about MOTUC 20 years ago, so i never collected them (sorry, Scott 😞 ).
I wish we had more funds to have promoted the line
Personally I had a hard time getting figures originally before they sold out. I didn't know certain figures were made til I visited more toy & sci-fi cons; hell, even this channel revealed more! I love these sculpts but hate how pricey they've become!
Well everything comes down eventually
Im really sad i didn't knew about the collection back then, iwould love to have them, such amazing figures!! Thanks for the video, BTW why do you think laser he-man classics seems underrated in US? To me is like a treasure (my only classcis figure i own, double pack and laser skeletor), you have no idea how much i like 'em :))))))) Great figures, thanks for producing them
Prob because very few in the US had him
What are the original He-Man figures referred to as? "Originals"?
It's usually called the Vintage line.
@@blackphoenix77 OK, cool.
. . . unless you're talking about just plain old He-Man and Skeletor, as opposed to Battle Armour, Dragon Blaster, Flying Fists, etc. In which case, whenever they get reissued, they get a luttle burst saying "The Original!" on the card. 😉
Or vintage
