  • In this episode of DIY WILLY we're changing the factory speakers for JBL GTO629 Premium 6.5" speakers in my 2011 Chevy Silverado. The JBL speakers have a soother mid bass response and cleaner highs from the adjustable tweeters.

    Hello, Yes I do have an aftermarket deck in the truck. Most decks nowadays have sufficient power for upgraded speakers. I feel these speakers are a great upgrade to any system nowadays. Thanks for watching!!!

      I have an Alpine ILX-W650 media player. It’s an older model but yes available I believe still on Amazon. Now I see they have a W750 available and I’m curious about the features over what mine has.

    I know I didn’t show how they performed but they sound amazing. Besides the camera will never do them justice in my opinion. If you are interested in purchasing these speakers, you will not be disappointed..... Thanks

      My driver door speaker and my tweeters are the only thing that worked on my 2012 silverado, I just bought these speakers and installed them and I’m still stuck with the same problem! Any help is appreciated!

    • @DIYWilly
      @DIYWilly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@drakeharvell4089 I would make sure your balance and fader settings are correct.. Also it’s known for the stock radios to fail in many different ways from display issues to speaker separation. You may also need to upgrade the head unit.

    Do you have an after market deck in your truck? Just wondering if these speakers would work with the stock deck!

    Awesome Sir! I have a 2012 Chevy Silverado LT and have 4 DS18 6.5 inch door speakers to install! Do I need the adapters or can I use the stock?

    • @DIYWilly
      @DIYWilly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Erik so the factory speakers are made to fit the door. So once you remove them you will need an adapter fit the new 6.5 speaker. If your a DIY type person you may figure it out your self but honestly the adapter is not expensive and make the install that much easier. If you can post a video of your install and let me know about it. I would love to see how it goes for you. Hope this helps. Good luck with the install and thanks for watching.

    I thought the rear speakers for extended and crew cab were 5 1/2. From what I read the front is 6.5" and the back is 5 1/2" so how did you mount the back speakers

    • @DIYWilly
      @DIYWilly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used exactly the same as the front as for the back. All the same adapters and the 6.5 speakers. Thanks for watching

      @@DIYWilly ok. I was just wondering cause i know our trucks for the rear speakers are 5 1/2" I was just confused on how you managed to fit another whole inch of speaker. But cool I just bought them and they will be here tmmr can wait.

    Great video. Thanks. I am going to take your advice on the dampening foam. Did you have 5.25" in the back door and 6" in the front door? I wasnt sure if your adapter was converting the speaker size. Thanks again

    • @DIYWilly
      @DIYWilly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I used 6.5’s in all 4 doors. Sounds really good but could have used some more sound dampening behind the plastic door panels. There are some rattles still. Thanks for commenting!!

      @@DIYWilly awesome. I’m excited to get upgraded. No door mods required? What year is your rig?

    • @DIYWilly
      @DIYWilly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No extra mods required. Everything bolts and snaps in place as it should. It’s a 2011. I purchased it new and try my best to take care of it. It only has 75k miles on it. I drive it more now as my daily while my Samurai is down. What speakers have you chosen to install and are you changing the head unit?

      @@DIYWillyMy truck is an 11 as well, extended cab. Specs show the smaller speakers in the back. Yeah. Purchasing a new head unit is what encouraged me to do the speakers. Im leaning jbl too. Iv purchased jbl in the past snd have been happy.

      @DIYWilly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What I have looked on the specs for extended cab still shows 6.5 according to Crutchfield. Sounds like your on your way to some great sound!

    About to do this to my 13 silverado. I see you didn't trim any of the foam from the fast ring kit. I assume there are not fitment issues with the door/window components. Is that the case?

    Do you happen to know what the maximum mounting depth is for the doors

    • @DIYWilly
      @DIYWilly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The JBL GTO series speaker I used have a mounting depth of 2 inches. With the adapters I used I would say there was still 1.5 inches behind the speaker. I honestly didn’t measure it and I talking from memory. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

      Shouldn’t be that different. The interior panels most likely attach different. I did a quick search and looks like the METRA 72-4568 speaker harness adapter and the METRA 82-3002 speaker adapter fit the 2003 truck. Check it out... Hope this helps your install.👍
