Making me wanna cry for what was a major area of my former stomping ground...between a rock n a hard place....used to walk this almost entire route home from town to Clayton back in the 80's.......
Wow! My family moved from Huddersfield to Blackpool when I was two and I didn't return to Yorkshire (Bradford) until I was 50 so I never saw the line. Interesting exploration.
We used to walk through the tunnel under st lukes as well ! And I built a bicycle up from all the old ones that had been thrown over the edge ! Dangerous days but i got myself a bike !!!!!
remember walking through the tunnel that ran under st lukes hospital , near the cricket ground ,also when the city rd station was still there but closed and vandalised . The lines have disappeared just like the old mills and chimneys.
What a great memory Iceman. The Shipley Model Railway club is building a detailed model of Clayton which was lost around the same time. If you ever come across photos remember to share them for posterity.
thanks ,their is a website called britain from above which has got some pics of the line in the 30s which Iv been looking at recently ,Iv been trying to get hold of an old map which shows the line but not had any luck yet.
I think Manchester Rd station closed down early 20 th century and it wasn't open for very long at all. I remember the goods yard and the lines going to Thornton rd and Queensbury.
I remember the line from Bradford to Queensbury...me and my older brother Martin saw the last steam train ever to use that line at Clayton and my mates and me used to go through the tunnel at Clayton till they filled the Clayton end in....then we would walk from the Brow lane end then back. I remember the shunting yard and station at Clayton and the big one a Lidget Green....sadly all gone now...we had a great time playing around on the yard at Clayton just behind the council estate as it was being removed....what times we had.....Kevin Murgatroyd, Allan Stuart et al where are you all now?
Wow. Thank you. What great information and personal reflection. Our club are building a scale model of Clayton. They would love to talk to you. Shipley model railway club.
Bradford City Road layout was exhibited at the KWVR steam gala and we have a running session most Sundays - perhaps a video with our recently bought stock?
@John Mellor Typical of the Private sector that BD had and still has TWO rail heads separated by what could have been bridged across a narrow strip of land.

You can come and look at it. We would be happy to talk to you about what you remember.
@@bikerides I would but I live in Northern Ireland these days, what's the model all about anyway??
@@basslegend29 The layout is a scale replication of Clayton station. It is to EM gauge. I'm sure it will feature in a magazine soon.
Great memories I remember the railway line in the late 70s - early 80s running from St Luke’s to City Rd. I grew up in that neighbourhood !!

Let's hope they get Queensbury tunnel open again. I'd love to walk through it.
John Mellor The support group is getting a reasonable amount of coverage in the Media. Good fortune to them.

Wow mate! I bet it must’ve been so fun being you when you were young. I live near hewenden viaduct which was also on that line.
Interesting video mate hard to believe sometimes that there was a railway line sadly long gone now.
Very little left, the odd cycle trak and remnants of overbridge walls at the side of the road.
Great vid
Thanks, this is mainly for my reference so I hope the pics made some sense.
Nice photo's John what happened to your layout ?cheers Tony

Brown and Moffitt or brown and Moff's before busbys and Debenhams
Thank you for the useful information.
Before my time.
A lot has changed over the years , some better some worse
And sometimes I think with a little foresight we could have kept some options open for the future which we have now lost.
