    These longevity updates are some of my favorite things! It's hard not to get attached to a vehicle that stays reliable for hundreds of thousands of miles. Thanks for doing this series, Cheyne!

    Good long-term update. I like that you talk about the capabilities while keeping the original tire size which is why your actual MPG is still so good. So many people buy this truck and then run out and put super heavy, bigger tires on it and then complain about the power and MPG. My 2017 - bought Aug 2016 is at 91K and still on original brakes. No issues either. I think my battery went out around 75K and 5 years.

    • @cheynewalls
      @cheynewalls  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cheers, Thanks James. Yeah I avoided the bigger tires because of all my highway driving, and the Good Years are still pretty good when you take them off road. Great Trucks!

    I have a 2017 Trd Pro, 89500, and going strong, on set 3 of tires, had a small oil leak at 48k which dealer fixed, Normal maintenance and I would say this truck is amazing. Low cost of ownership.

    I had this same TRD PRO and the dealer last spring offered me $41,500 for it and I couldn’t refuse considering I paid $46k almost 5 years prior. I only had around 31,000 miles and I did take good care of it.
    2 days ago I traded in a 2023 TRD Off Road 4Runner for a new 2024 TRD PRO TACOMA. All I can say is WOW!!!
    Only got 100 miles on it but it’s a pretty phenomenal truck. Definitely with the eight speed automatic there is no gear searching very smooth.
    I worry about the hybrid when it has as many miles on it as your truck but right now I’m pretty impressed. Those TRD pro seats are pretty wild. I haven’t had the truck off-road yet, but looking forward to it with those shock absorbers in the seats.
    The price was the big thing almost $20,000 jump from my 2018 TRD pro.
    But I have to say it looks amazing and I see a huge difference between my truck and the TRD off-road and sport. I think the first time they’ve actually made significant upgrades on the TRD pro over the other trim levels.
    Anyway, enjoy your scenery and love seeing my old taco in action.!
    Aloha🤙🏻

I’ve experienced the same recalls and other than regular maintenance I’ve had zero issues, I expect to hit 100,000 miles in the next 10 years, it’s my vacation and long trip driver so it doesn’t get out much. On my 06 I had to replace the AC at 200k and the suspension, water pump and a few other relatively minor things at 260k. Now at 300 and will be doing sparkplugs and all fluids. Mileage has been pretty steady low 20's on road trips and high teens in town. I live in a very high salt area and have had the frame rustproofed twice. My mechanic says it ain't pretty but it's solid. Body is practically rust free. Traded in a Silerado when I bought this and the Tacoma has actually paid for itself in fuel savings alone!

    @chrisscoleri2341 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Cheyne,
    I have a 2019 TRD OR (currently at 20K), I have found some similar things with mine. I often drive mine in either Sport or in ECT. In Sport, around town, limiting it to fourth gear make is drive better and it seems to get a just a smidge better mileage that way. It drives better because it isn't trying to get into 5th or 6th gear and having to shift back to third when I need to go. I live in a So Cal foothill community, so I have it in ECT when I drive home because the streets are steeper and ECT holds a gear longer and creates some compression braking.
    Though my truck doesn't have a lot of mileage, when I change the oil (5K) it still looks virtually new. In fact, it looks much cleaner than my daughter's new Subie. There is also no detectable oil consumption either. I have not encountered many of the complaints I read about on the Tacoma boards, but I would guess some of that goes to heavier modifications, or owner choices. So far, I'm really happy with the Toyota quality with this vehicle. Like you, my truck gets really good mileage for a truck. My last truck, a full size Ram couldn't crack 15 on the highway, with a tail wind and the engine shut off. Seriously, this thing gets outstanding mileage comparatively. The people who complain about terrible mileage often have Load Range D, 285s on them and a lot of weight in armor. Lots of weight and rolling resistance. I only moved up to a 265/70/17 BFG ATs and TRD SEMA rims. Just a little more tire and pretty much the same weight.
    With the squeaking, leaf spring systems and rubber bushing squeak as they get older. The leaves get dry and dirt gets in between them. The bushings can get a little dry too. Some WD-40 will help the bushings. The leaves can be pressure washed out. I have disassembled them and greased the packs on other vehicle. This can attract dirt though.
    The paint peeling issue is primarily with white and is seen across a number of other makes too. I don't know why, there is something different about white. Paint in and of itself isn't as durable as it once was because of EPA regulations over the VOCs.
    I don't care much for the factory navigation system, or really the Apple or Google ones either. One reason is they rely on GPS and cell information to function and the other is they seem to not have good map data for some areas. My Garmin GPS is far better because it uses maps stored internally which are very good quality, and only relies on GPS signals. You can lose a GPS signal in a canyon or under dense trees, but it recovers quickly and doesn't get confused as easily. Also, when driving in an unfamiliar area, the Garmin gives better visuals and prompts you earlier than the other two systems. Gaia works really well for off road areas.
    Glad to hear your Tacoma has held up so well.

    Nice video…I bought my 2019 Calvary Blue Tacoma (TRD Off Road double cab) new in January of 2019.
    I now have 245k miles (many in 4WD).
    I’ve had zero issues….other than a couple of recalls (done during service) . I have yet to reply my rear drum brakes…it’s in the yellow and nearing.
    My truck still looks and drives like new! I’m older and we own a horse farm…this truck is the best value of any vehicle I’ve ever owned…and I’ve owned a bunch and many were over 3 times the price of this vehicle.
