I can think of, honor, and thank Jesus while doing all of it.

Only when said worldly things become something you prioritize over God does it become evil. What the Bishop says about everything outside of Jesus being evil is because every single one of them has the potential to become a priority over Jesus, has a potential to become your Baal. The commodities the world nowadays offers is addictive, our responsibilities in this world nowadays has become something that we must fulfill bothe because of we need it to keep living as well as societal standards, most of the communities around us are not faithful to God. Looking at these, every single one of the run the risk of distracting us from the Lord. Therefore, it is not exactly wrong to call them evil. However, so long as we keep our eyes to God, then these things should not even be able to leave a scratch on us.

For the past few days I’ve been afraid of not being 100% saved. I prayed this morning to the lord asking to be 100% saved, to please forgive my sins and keep me saved. Then right after I find this video in my feed.

I game a lot so i dont focus on the evils of this world. i smoke to calm my nerves and i drink larger (3-4cans) most nights, this is my confession. im not sure if im sinning but God please know that this world is finite , i want to be with god for he is infinite and infinite love is abound. i long for it. this world makes me miserable. this is my truth. My hobbies are reading, feeding strays and writing penpal letters. God will judge me and he will see what is in my heart and I will accept what is. I’m insignificant in this world and I leave it up to God. You know what’s evil the Orthodox priest in my parish who ignored my calls to come see my mother who was fighting cancer. Out of 6 years he showed up one time to give her holy communion. He was more concerned with the outlandish donation left to our church to paint icons on the wall. My mother was dying and he was picking out new carpet samples. Although I am Orthodox Christian I am still a sinner and Jesus Will forgive me. I just feel bad for Jesus because he was truly selfless and this world is selfish. I’m thankful for Jesus and he will judge me, not the priest.

No, not at all. There is so much beauty to behold in this life. The Bishop is mainly concerned about the obvious sins plus other things that could take your mind off Jesus. We are supposed to be mindful in all things we do.
Life is a gift and to be enjoyed. Nothing is evil or good, however humanity will always be drawn to the evil aspect. For example technology can be good and bad, but its being used more for bad than good. When you use a phone app most likely there will be content that’s not considered good like a dating application for example. Is all about how you make use of things, and remembering we are all sinners which is why we go to Church weekly.
Things like music is good depending the usage you give, most of the gifts comes from Holy Spirit.
I think that things that are man made, we should discern. Man can manipulate programs and put his own ideas into something and steer us off course. Nature I feel is the most purest . Art and music can have evil in it but we can feel if it is off or not. ❤️

I once, as a teenager, back in the 80’s, expressed ridicule at the notion that the TV programme ‘eastenders’ was evil (a priest had expressed this opinion at that day’s mass) my father, who was a gentle, wise man replied that ‘perhaps it is evil’. Well, after 40 years of wandering away from faith, seeking happiness outside the Holy Sheepfold, and thank God coming back home, I can see just how evil all these social engineering ‘programmes’ were - and they are much much worse nowadays.

Exactly. I grew up taking lies like this one seriously and I ended up miserable, terrified, and confused. It pushed me away from Christianity. I hated myself for being creative or curious or imaginative, because none of those things are of Jesus, and therefore are evil. Nothing I tried could purge myself of creativity or curiosity, so I stewed in self loathing and misery. Eventually I renounced Christianity for being a bunch of liars.
This is one of those topics that I believe needs more elaboration, because it can lead to a LOT of confusion and/or questions

The 'world' in scripture are those who reject God, not the created, natural world. Man was created in the image of God and He called us good. We were corrupted by sin.
Marriage, family, jobs and healthy hobbies, kept in balance are NOT evil.
I grew up taught that everything outside Jesus is evil, and I took it seriously. I was miserable, terrified, and confused. After staying up all night for many nights pondering what I was taught, I came to the logical conclusion that imagination, curiosity, and creativity are evil. I then concluded that I myself am evil for having those things, and I should hate myself for being unable to purge myself of imagination.

I don't agree, with all due respect. A hobby of mine was to purchase broken things, fix them and resell them. That turned into a business and a career. That has absolutely nothing to do with God aside from him giving me the ability to do these things. So I don't think all hobby's are evil.

@timmay1756 Ironically, you yourself have just violated Paul's advice from Romans 14:23, and sinned. That chapter says that eating meat is not a sin, but it is a sin if it causes your brother to stumble.
I was told as a child that everything outside Christ is evil, and it caused me to stumble. I thought that sports, creativity, curiosity, imagination, and any number of other things were evil, for being outside Jesus, and that I was therefore evil for having those traits. Drunkenness is a sin, not consuming wine. Vineyards are a constant theme in the entire bible. I think alcohol should be avoided but drinking is not a sin. I think my passion for cycling is more dangerous than the beer or 2 I have with a meal here and there.
As Samael at the point of his creation God gave him dominion over the material world before he rejected his mission and became fallen. Thats why sin is so strong in this world. Only through baptism and confirmation can you break his claim on your souls. Otherwise he can claim you as his property.

I am not quite sure I follow this particular video. In what way are hobbies evil? Of course it's evil to do something sinful like get drunk or sleep around. But how can it possibly be evil to grow God's beautiful flowers in a garden? Or to praise Him with a musical instrument? Or to create beautiful artwork? Yes, there is a great deal of evil in the world, but not everything in the world is evil. If I have misunderstood something, I would appreciate an explanation.

Hobbies aren't inherently sinful but earthly pleasure are, and we are weak before temptations.
Everything that doesn't evolve around the Lord can become an idol for us. We can abuse it, worship it and then it became an idol that we put before Christ. To avoid it, it's better that everytime we are doing something, we do it with the intent that it's towards and for God. For example, the hobbies that you listed evolve around Christ so there is no way for us to be tempted by sin by doing them. Apart from idolizing being in a relationship with Christ rather than actually worshipping Him and obeying Him.
My hobby is cleaning. I don't know why if i see something dirty in my home i have to clran my whole house. Even if it's just one spot. If I'm reading my Bible something catches my eye and i have to stop reading and clean.
