I use air-dry paint, so it may be a little different, but I can't seem to get the Prisma pencils to stick to the baby's head. If you could give some advice on that it would be much appreciated. Hi jackie! I am so glad you are back doing videos. You literally saved my sculpt today. I am in the process still of painting my very first Claire Taylor doll it's the Dwayne asleep vinyl kit. Everything that could go wrong did and my last resort was to change this baby's skin tone and basically start over. The problem is I have never done a baby that isn't more fair than anything so this was a really big challenge, and this kid is super special to me. I came across a video you did for biracial skin tone and it saved my butt! Not only did it save me but it taught me some tools to use if I want to create babies with biracial or other skin tones that I have not attempted. I cannot imagine how much better for the more expensive. One day I plan on getting one of your higher end. From what understand, may be wrong that Stephanie paints the head and limbs and you paint the hair. Also it was a kit from amazon so i can't tell you the kit name. But she is a cutie, named her Reese.

Cintia, thank you so much for your beautiful comment. For the direction of the hair, it is honestly a natural flow with my hand. I let the flow guide me and help me with shaping the direction of the hair. As for the red hair, I tend to use different shades of red for every doll - only because each mix is uniquely made. I really adore the tone of red that resulted with this baby. I am so happy to hear that you enjoy the work on this doll!

I definitely recommend mapping your hair on the doll before you paint it. That way, nothing is permanent and you can always remove it if you dont like it. Use a prismacolor pencil to map the hair. You can find this pencil at Hobby Lobby, Marshalls, or jerrysartarama.com. Once you are happy with your mapping, permanently seal it with a varnish. Then, go over it with paint.
I honestly cannot remember the exact colors I used for this video, since it was a bit ago. But, I do know for sure that I used Genesis burnt umber and red. I hope that helps you a bit.
