I like to think of Nowhere Somewhere and Somewhere Nowhere as a dream. No matter how amazing, beautiful, scary, colorful, dull, boring, or calm it is, you always have to wake up. In this case the portal is the gate to waking up into real world, you're leaving Nowhere (the dream) to come back to Somewhere (reality). Looking back to say one last goodbye before you forget the dream. The moon in the tree representing that you'll come back when its night again, even if you may not remember it.

There's a really cool Alan watts lecture about dreams how if people could control dreams every night you went to bed you'd live out a full 70 year life and it would be different every time, one night you're married with kids and a job, the next you're a travel blogger, next you're Naruto. After enough nights you don't know what is dream or reality. It goes a lot deeper but its a cool lecture.
