We were lucky to visit Atacama desert in December 2020. We flew from London to Santiago airport and then from there to Calama. We stayed in San Pedro de Atacama - nice town and i would say the most convenient place to explore the desert.

Being down there during the COVID pandemic was surely a journey. I traveled to San Pedro de Atacama after viewing the solar eclipse down south in Villarrica, and I will say that it was amazing. The stars and crazy canyons with warm water makes me surely want to go back.
Thank you! Yes, Atacama was almost tourist-free at that time when we were there. Oh Villarrica should be awesome! I really want to go to this part of Chile 🇨🇱. Have you been in Torres del Paine ?
@@olgaoliinyk4795 Sadly I did not have the ability to travel down south that far but it’s surely a location I want to travel to next. People surely underestimate Chile and it’s certainly in my top 3 favorite countries.
Completely agree, people underestimate Chile. This country has a wealth of natural beauty - from desert to lakes, from national parks to glaciers. I hope I can come back there soon and explore more places.
