Here's the simple answer - stop looking for validation from others...That's it. You have a dream? Go after it. Be nice to people, but don't hinge your life on their approval. Simple.

I imagine Tyler has the courage he does because he's using the narrator's body, playing him like a video game character - he's detached from him yet identifies with him. I try to do that sometimes, imagine that I'm just a video game character and then "play myself", as it were

I don't think it is. I've seen the movie many times, some would say too many times; and I think it's just as hard for him as it is for any one of us.
His existence depends on the Narrator's existence. Anything physical would affect them both. The only real difference between them two is the beliefs and the philosophy they have.

  • @gino14

Tyler Durden has no fear. _That's_ what is impressive.
Caring is not a bad thing. It is good. You can only feel when you care. You can only make a difference when you care. You can only succeed when you care.
But you will only fear when you care. And this is the problem. Giving a fuck is a double edged sword in this one way.
This is why caring intensely about a small number of things is good strategy - it allows you the benefits of both sides of caring. It allows you to feel, learn, and grow where it matters. But it also allows you to free yourself from fear where it does not.
I don't believe in fearless men. I believe in men who have chosen very carefully what they fear.

    My Philosophy
-Be not a slave to this ever fleeting world.
    -Desire little.
-There is no such thing as a 'soul mate' YOU ARE ALREADY COMPLETE.
-You think people are talking about you behind your back, in reality your not that important.
-Everyone who walks this earth is suffering, EVERYONE! So to the best of your ability be kind.
-Not everyone on this planet is kind and gentle, some are real barsteds. So keep a good distance between you and them.
-More often than not the real reason you hate people is NOT what they have done, but what they reflect in you. You dislike a characteristic in you but instead of dealing with it and taking responsibility you project it onto the other person. Be mindful of this.

    • @wghost1

    1. Dont be a people pleaser, rather be a genuine person who takes care of himself.
    2. Dont lie, steal or do anything that will damage your soul and other people around you. Do not stand by and let other people do damage. Do good, so you and everyone will benefit.
    3. The world does not revolve around you.
    4. Fix yourself before criticizing the world.
    5. Look for a meaningful life, rather than a expedient self destructive nihlistst life.
    6. You have nothing to loose. Go and tackle your challenges. Struggle. It makes you stronger.
    7. Material possession with lead to wanting more. Avoid the hedonistic treadmill and look for happiness within.
    8. Rise from the bottom of society. Take responsibility for your circumstances.

      Now's the time!
The question "What truly matters to me?" is a good place to start when forming a life philosophy. If that's too broad, go with: "What would I do if I would up with $10,000,000 (after buying a bunch of new toys)?" or "If I knew I had a year to live how would I want to spend it?" or "When I am 95, looking back on my life, what decisions and experiences will I be most proud of?"

    • @adamwoody2553
      @adamwoody2553 7 ปีที่แล้ว +45

Might I recommend Jesus. You can either create a life philosophy, which is only dependent on yourself and your feelings. Jesus offers something much larger than yourself in a way that God defines. Following Christ is a surefire way to lifelong joy no matter the circumstance, and it is wholly selfless.

andrew dacunto Not always. Religion can keep you away from certain aspects of life, due to it getting in the way of your beliefs. I do agree that Jesus has some traits from his philosophy that people can adopt, but if you follow just that philosophy there's no where for growth. And you should never stop growing.

    • @adamwoody2553
      @adamwoody2553 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

All I'm saying is that it works for me, and there is always growth. The great thing is that there is a literal standard to live up to. It's a solid measuring stick: Am I living up to God's call for my life and how I should live? There's always more I can do to do more for others, truth to study, more transformation, and more love I can give. I love these videos because charisma, as he says frequently, is a skill that you put into practice. And like all skills, my goal is to do it for Jesus. If some that are reading this aren't interested, that's ok. I'm not going to try to force it or get mad at you or anything like that. I just want to say for me, it's the only thing that matters. Just like he says in the video, it's not that the other things don't matter, it's just in relation to my life philosophy, those things don't matter.

I think someone who puts himself over others or makes himself look better, cooler, and maybe even makes the others look smaller is selfish(and lot of ppl thinks this is "care for yourself"). If you have a strong belief in your worldview while you still can respect other worldviews, and you care about that to be better everyday, so you want to be better in yourself, rather than wanting to be better than others, thats something i'd call healthy.

I like how he says to find your life "philosophy" as opposed to life "purpose," because philosophy is more freeing and less confining as it's a system of thinking and a collection of ideas and thoughts, as opposed to a well-defined purpose - it's easier to understand and digest but harder to obtain because any variances we have if we reach that purpose would more than often feel like settling because it isn't "exactly" what you defined it to be.

I was really awkward for the first couple of months until I got into a few fights with this one guy. I got away with it by acting like I wasn't bothered.
The teachers would have given me way more punishment if I had seemed worried. From then on if I hesitated I just say, "fuck it"

Im going to try and live by this by stop thinking negatively, stop living in the past and simply focusing and observing the present always. Because theres always beauty in the present, with talking with people, with being in nature, with eating food, even in those quiet moments whem your doing "nothing", there's always beauty in the present and we just need to search for it and observe it.

I have just lately realized while pretending gives you something it is not what it really is. Pretending gives you fake friends fake respect and you will bring yourself even further. My Life philosophy is to embrace myself improve myself in many ways I would like to improve on and do it all for my happiness and success not for other people. Iam not going to care if people don't like me or the things I am doing as long it is not hurting others in a bad way I will keep on doing my own shit and if some people likes to roll with my shit, just being me that's fine too. I will try my best to Improve on my passion: Music to bring joy to myself and other people.

Don't let judgements, expectations perceptions and other peoples opinions affect the raw you. "This is it" meaning be the now moment, dont worry about whats next or what happened. Love and accept you! Embrace and trust you! Add to peoples lives do not take! It has probably been mentioned before, but I recommend everyone to read "The subtle art of not giving a fuck", it goes into more detail about the ideas presented in this video and makes you reflect on your life quite a bit.

I feel like i have slowly started to become more and more like tyler durden after i started to train martial arts, it has given my life purpose and as my confidence has started to increase i find that i care less and less about how other people percieve me, this confidence hasn`t started to translate too social or dating aspects quite jet but my body language is getting better.

Sneaky AF ;-) Regardless of whether anyone gives, I do think this gets to the core of how Tyler is able to "let that which doesn't matter truly slide"

Yes you got around it all really well. I just think you could have left the donation part out, maybe for a video for itself.

That's my point. So devious, he manipulates all the video, then right at the end, " Think about people". At that point I left.

My philosophy: don’t worry about strangers or authority figures who won’t even remember your name in a year. Just be yourself. If people judge, that’s their problem. Let them be bothered by you and offended by what you believe in and how you live your life if they want to be bothered, and keep doing what you want to do and being who you want to be. And if they insult you, laugh it off or agree with them. After a while of doing that, the insults will no longer sting and others will be bothered by the fact that their insult had no affect in you whatsoever.

My philosophy is what you've mentioned - relaxing and enjoying life and relationships. Visiting new places, experimenting new things, and sharing those experiences with my family and friends.
