      @@mathiasvoorhees6232 That's pretty sad that you have to wade in on someone else's comment and talk negatively about the OP's own experience. The star shaped fort is common among the western world. Look at Pittsburgh, PA, USA for reference, the french and english were fond of it. Aside from that, thank you for the view of Marseille, I will visit there one day! Fantastic video

    A beautiful city at an amazing location with a lovely weather. Went there to watch Olympique Marseille in a league game which was intense as hell. The city seems laid back but on match-day it's simply madness. As for shops being shut during the day, it's a French thing as I had the same issue when trying to find an open restaurant during the day which was a mission.

    • @UltimateBucketList

    Great video; my only comment concerns your strong opinion concerning the danger of Le Panier at night. The location of your hotel right by the train station and thus one of the poorest neighbourhoods in France (the 3rd arrondissement) I would suggest is quite dangerous. The well known advice is to avoid the northern areas of the city…whilst Le Panier is to the north of the Vieux Port, it is far away from the huge northern housing developments that are the no-go areas. I have often walked through Le Panier at night without problem…it is quieter and less atmospheric than during the day, there are fewer bars and restaurants than in other parts of central Marseille, but It is not considered dangerous.

    • @UltimateBucketList
      @UltimateBucketList  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting because I experienced the complete opposite?!
      I had no trouble walking around where I stayed, but lots of shady characters around Le Panier, especially at night.
      What you're saying may be completely true, of course - and I trust your judgement.

    Great video and tour. Thank you for sharing this lovely video. I just would like add that Chateau d'If is the prison where the count of Monte Cristo or Edmon Dantes stayed for 14 years. Well, of course he is a novel character, but just think how he sneaked in the large bag which they had initially put Abbey Faria's corpse to toss it over to the sea and then once Dantes was in the sea how he managed to get out and swim away for miles. That was a majestic prison break.

      Yes, that's correct!

    • @eclipsedediting2563
      @eclipsedediting2563 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the novel this happens in Chateau D'If, but in the modern movie this is all shot on the island of Comino in Malta. From the cliffs where they threw the body bag from, to the long and winding sea cave with the little dark sandy beach at the end of this cave. If you happen to visit Malta and the island of Comino, do not miss the tower and a boat tour to the cave which boaters call "the love cave". Well done for this nice and very informative travel guide. We visited Marseille twice and also Paris and I agree with you, Marseille is much nicer than the overrated Paris.

    For some more upbeat nightlife you just needed to go to the other side of the Old Port where there are numerous restaurants and bars and a large square. The Panier side is always dead in the evenings. Another option for nightlife is the infamous La Plaine--also packed full of bars, clubs, restaurants and people.

      Thanks very much! Technically flying over water is perfectly legal, and most of the shots here were above water.
      The only place they're twitchy about you flying the drone is around the Basilica. But if you launch and land outside the grounds, they can do nothing about it.

    Compare Marseilles to Napoli please, they are somehow supposed to be similarly plagued by urban phenomena such as organized crime, gangs/drug & human trafficking, corrupt governance, under investment & poverty by some categories of the population. They are also both football mad, and are known for excellent food variety. Marseilles probably has more of an Africa, Arab feel due to massive immigration from 1960-2000s but these two cities have gone through a lot and need revitalizing and investment… I am wondering if a visitor finds the 2 remarkably similar, or not.

    I just arrived Marseille today after I visited Paris and Lyon. I was shocked that whole street full of East European and black people. No offend but they are team up like a gang and the way they stare at tourist make me so scared. Very few tourist in city but probably there are on beach. I am so glad when see tourist on Metro. Street and Metro are full of pee smell and dirty. Homeless is so much more than Pairs. The picture and VDO from what I researched was so beautiful but may be was many years ago. I won’t come back here and not recommend anyone here unless you have local friend.

      Sorry to hear that this was your experience of the city.
      I didn't find that it was so bad. Yes it wasn't perfect, but certainly wasn't terrible.
      I'd say that Paris is worse for all these things that you mentioned.
      Keep smiling and don't let that ruin your vacation. It's a very charming city.
