Cats can sense when something is really wrong. My parents cat has actually saved both my mother and father. My mother is diabetic and she passed out from her condition in the bathroom once and the cat screamed and dug at the door until my father got in and found her. My dads sleep apnea mask was leaking, and the cat got up on him and started yelling and smelling the mask. It was the cat that found the leak and saved my father. They actually are smart animals. Your cat was clearly checking up close to your face to see if you were breathing.
