- In this video the Cool Kid and I meet up with my friend Sean and go to the Big Apple Comic Con In New York City hunting for amazing Comic Books. We look at a ton of wall books, so many key issues. I purchase some amazing GGA Golden Age Comics. And we just have a ton of fun hunting for comics at the con then around New York City afterwards.
Watch as I dig though boxes of comics at the Comic and seen which comics I ended up buying.

Was missing the back cover otherwise I would have grabbed it. I ended up buying a pile of Fiction House stuff from another vendor later in the show that I did not film. I need to film my haul video very soon.
46:12 So many cool comics! I saw the Charlotte Mini-Con T-shirt and started to think that was maybe Shelton Drum who owns Heroes Aren't Hard to Find and HeroesCon in Charlotte. And sure enough the other guy at the booth gave you that HeroesCon pamphlet. It's maybe the only big Con left that is solely focused on comics. He also did a phenomenal job of getting me excited about those Atlas Quick-Trigger Western's.

Yeah he was a very cool guy, my Friend Sean ended up picking up two issues from the Western line and wants to get the rest. I will eventually probably grab them as well.
@@popfuntoplay Yeah I saw that. HeroesCon is fantastic. I haven't been in over a decade but think I I'll go this year. It's about a 3 hour drive for me. But you're very fortunate to be within walking (or subway) distance from so many cool comics shows.
@@mikebraycomics Ahh, I thought so but only got a brief glimpse. Are you going to HeroesCon this year?
Yeah I have access to so many Comic shows within a half an hour subway ride from me, with dozens more within an hour or so ride so NYC is definitely a great place to be a comic fan with tons of access to comics. Plus dozens of comics shops, and plenty more thrift stores, used book stores and other spots to hunt. Plus my friend Sean overwhelms me with stuff he finds haha If this channel grows to the size to support it, I would love to go to way more conventions around the country and or world hunting for comics.
It's great that you and your son share in the conventions and other fun things. Like you said the memories you make are more valuable than the comics you buy.

It's neat having Cool Kid make an appearance. Big help in having him remember books you are missing and being able to help carry back the goodies.
Yeah, he was pointing out an issue I had maybe 10 years ago that is missing. There are 3-4 keys I just cant find in my collection and it really bothers me. I dont know if I misplaced or they got stolen. But yeah he is aware of them because I mention them every once in a while. And I have a hard time pulling the trigger to rebuy them haha

I’m hoping to dip my toe in the comics game later this year once I’ve had my eye operation and will be able to appreciate all the artwork again. I’m very interested in the Uber series, I think I’ll get the graphic novel then if I enjoy it try and collect some of the single issues.

Looks like lots of fun! Never been to a comic con but have always wanted to go but my parents won't take me. Hope the Cool Kid had a good time!
When you get old enough I am sure you will be able to go by yourself. Until then try to make it to a local comic shop if you can to buy a few things to read and enjoy.

I'm not in your league yet, when it comes to collecting and grabbing key or older issues, but I'm certainly taking down notes for when I do graduate to that place. I like how you deal with the sellers, ask for discounts, what you ask about. I would have thought it poor form to haggle or ask for a lower price, but I see that when you are actually considering buying stuff and making substantial purchases, dealers don't argue or don't seem to mind.
That Weird Science book was gorgeous. Drooling over it.
When it comes to buying expensive stuff at cons its always ok to haggle a little. Especially if you are buying multiple things. With key issues you will but heads more, but more obscure stuff that is a bit harder to sell most vendors will work with you. I usually expect 10% off. One vendor I got 40% off but I knew he had the comics since last year since I had been thinking about them and I offered to spend at least $1000 after the discount I think he actually gave me 41% off because he rounded down a little. haha
I LIKED watching your videos because you like a different type of comics, but I LOVE this channel now and subscribed because of the comment you made about making memories with little man!!! Cheers and keep hunting!!!
I probably like the comics that most people love as well, I just have a ton of it in my collection already so I don't hunt for it as much. So I do love Batman, Detective, Amazing Spider-Man etc, have tons of keys from them etc. But yeah time with my son and wife is what I value the most in life.

It was super busy this time, like pre pandemic levels. It was kind of awesome.
Very cool! Cool Kid has the patience of a Saint. I could never sit still very long when my dad took me to sport shows or car shows
He does love this stuff, but much more into Anime so rather be digging through volumes of Manga lol He also wants to do TH-cam videos so likes being involved when I film.

Cool to see a different side of conventions rather than people competing over who has the best costume. Also when ever you buy new comics for your collection, do you ever consider if you will grade them in the future or do you just buy them to read and have.
To me its all about the comics, digging the bins and hunting for neat comics to add to my collection at a price I think is fair. Everything else is just extra lol I want most of my money going into comics and not into plastic to validate they are in nice shape. I bought a giant pile of Fiction house comics at this con and they should all be at least 5s to 9.0 or even better on a few of them. Amazing condition and I paid 1/3 for them for all the ones that were graded at the con. So in my mind I got triple the amount of comics that I could afford in the same or better grades. And better yet I get to open them up read them, smell that wonderful old smell and just enjoy them more. I will grade stuff in the future if and when I want to sell. But for now I rather have triple the comics in the same grade because of they go up in value I have triple the gains. Grading just drains money much faster from collectors.
@@pop-comics I can imagine it is only valuable collectors who want the comics graded as it helps show the value of their collection and don't really care about the story just the value

I have a bunch on the channel. When the channel grows to the point where I get about 100K views a video on average I will travel to do con videos all the time.

Haha, I added that to my want list for this year. Was a decent grade so it was priced 2K I am gonna have to track down a 5.0 or so to be more within my budget.
I only collect superhero comics though i enjoyed watching this video anyways. I was wondering what that Amazing Fantasy #15 was going for? It was slabbed but i could not see the price.
I did not pay attention, I usually dont look at them because I know they will be beyond my pay grade lol
Great video! I’m going to this in a few weeks. Do they sell low grade comics too like ASM , etc? It seems like they have mainly high grade books!
Sure you dig around enough you will find some cheap low grade older stuff.

I have about 400 bronze age comics I need to re-bag (same bags and backers for 40 years) do you suggest I use Mylar bags, resealable bags, or just plastic bags and backers?

Depends on your budget, Mylites or Mylar bags will pretty much never need to replaced again. The boards you probaby have to replace again in 5-10 years. You can get 100 percent acid free boards that cost more but last longer. But if you want to stay with a cheaper budget resealable bags and baords are fine for another 5-10 years.

Wear gloves when going through that hard plastic sleeves. Lots of people get cuts, and nasty germs are on those edges.
Oh yeah I have the mylars that are open on the top. Those I barely look through or go through slowly. Top loaders are not as much a problem.
What does the "Cool Kid " collect.. What's in in 2022 ?
Right now he is a die hard Manga / Anime fan and he loves gaming.

Not yet, I keep being close to pulling the trigger, I have a hard time buying the tanned copies.
I would love to watch this video, but it will not play for me. It only gives me 720p as the highest video quality as well. It's not my internet as I have gigabit speed and every other video on youtube works just fine for me tonight.
Yeah youtube messed up my upload and never process the hd versions really annoying. I cut out an accidental repeated section and reuploading it just under 1 hour. Hopefully I have a HD version live today.
