    I love the snappy Tom ad, they actually mentioned Adelaide something you won't see anymore

    76! Australia's oldest prime minister was Menzies, who was 72 when he retired. Joh intended to become prime minister aged 76, which would have meant that, if elected, he would have been 79 after only one term, yet at age 81 he was deemed too old to face a second trial after Luke Shaw hung his jury for perjury. Whatever you think of the man, he was out of his tree with the "Joh for PM" effort.

    0:21 I always imagine the Snappy Tom ad being sung using a posh English aristocratic accent:
    🎶 …they’re thee kets of oostralia…🎶

    The unions running the nation?? What did Hawke do to the Pilots union? Joh was as corrupt as they come. I have a recording of the old hillbilly shonk talking to a scab unit operator at a power house during the SQUEB dispute where Joh tells him, 'Son, you do the right thing and get those machines running and I'll look after you, don't you worry about that'! What a grub. The silly old farts that loved Joh and Flo thought the sun shon out of their nether regions. Pathetic and shameful episode in the history of Queensland.

      @reactivator 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do you mean to say Sir Joh encouraged the operator to keep working? Oh golly, it just proves the fact that the unions were outdated, and out of control. If people want to strike, its their choice, but if you want to work, its their choice too.

    +aussiebeachut0 Random question, do you have the segment from "after the break" when Brownie McGhee performed on the show? I'm a fan of Brownie's music and would love to hear when he played here in Australia.

      @@jamief.8489 Have you ever seen historic photographs of Queensland during the 1950s and 1960s compared to the 70s and 80s, when he was Premier? He developed Queensland. Sure we lost a lot, and he will always be resented by Brisbane people for Cloudland and Bellvue Hotel, but as a whole he was great, I think about the Barkly and Landsborough Highways were dirt blacksoil roads until 1974 - 1976. Queensland was actually trapped in time before him, economically - - he put it into the future. I'm not saying he was perfect or free from corruption but as a history nerd I can see the economic impact he had on Queensland. A lot we have in Q today is because of his policies.
