    I kept getting E3 error which is not enough liquid. After the struggle in the middle of the night last night when there was no one to call - I began wondering if maybe my countertop is not level. Sure enough... it's not! So consider that it could by why you get the error. Also - don't add water to the canner while your jars (filled or unfilled) are in there - take them out first. Add very hot tap water to the fill line or slightly above if your countertop is not level. Return the filled jars, then the lid... you get past the jar sanitizing stage by simply pushing the advance button. Hope this helps others! I love this appliance! It's super easy to use!

    Just bought the 12 Qt canner 2 days ago and tried to do beans today. Kept getting E50 error at the canning cycle 75 minute count down. Tried again same thing, tried a third time and E50 again. The 4th time I cleaned the rubber seal on the lid cleaned everything and tried again. This time E50 came up the last 25 minutes of the 75 minute cycle. Very disappointing to say the least. Water was building up around the lid and the body so it may be a bad seal. That said, it should work perfectly directly out of the box first day. I've registered the product with Presto and will call the help line tomorrow when they are open. Very frustrating since I did everything I was supposed to and the preparation for dried beans is a full day event the day before. Started the day at 10 am and gave up by 4 pm after the 4th E50 error message.

    Heating the jars with water in the pressure canning would be the same has sterilizing it? Or I had to sterilize them first then warm them in the pressure canning

    • @PrestoAppliances
      @PrestoAppliances  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don’t need to sterilize jars if your water-bath processing time will be over 10 minutes, or, if you are pressure canning. Using clean jars, you should rely on the jar warming setting on your canner.

    I have canned beef stew and chicken stew. Both taste a little burned. I am thinking they are over cooked due to the fact that there is no way to change the pressure. Does it always can on 15? I have been told that this Presto over cooks and that seems to be my experience.

    • @PrestoAppliances

      The electric pressure canner is unique in that it senses temperature rather than pressure. It was designed and programmed to reach and maintain a specific temperature of 240 degrees. Because it is temperature based, the canner automatically adjusts the pressure to reach and maintain that required canning temperature. We would like to talk to you about your situation, however. • @fetch33

    When putting the lids on the jars, do they need to be dry like the jars' rims? Also, is it true that we don't need to sterilize the lids, and that doing so will affect the safety of the seal?
    To clarify, I use Ball and Kerr wide-mouth jars, lids, and bands.

    • @PrestoAppliances
      @PrestoAppliances  ปีที่แล้ว

      Jars and lids can be wet, (water only) but clean. No food particles on the rims of the jars or it will hinder the seal. Most, if not all lid manufacturers have modified the seal and they no longer need to be heated before placing on the jar.

    Can you skip the jar warming step if your jars are already warm with the filled product? Also, do you have to remove the regulator at the beginning, or can you just have it turned to vent - and then move to seal when prompted?

    • @PrestoAppliances
      @PrestoAppliances  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The complete canning process with the Presto Precise® Digital Canner includes a jar warming phase. We’ve had some users ask questions so we wanted to clarify this process.
      For properly canned and safe food products, please follow the steps in your instruction manual or Quick Start Guide as written, without skipping or altering steps. Shortcuts, alterations, and using out-of-date or untested canning recipes can result in jar breakage, unsealed jars, botulism, and/or food poisoning.
      Even the most experienced canner may make mistakes, such as selecting the wrong canning program or the wrong processing time. Should this happen, if you have a canner with series number 4320 or higher AND you have already completed the jar warming process, correct the issue and follow the process described in Frequently Asked Questions #1 of the current instruction manual (www.gopresto.com/manual-finder.php?keyword=02144) to bypass the jar warming phase. Finish the canning process as instructed in your instruction manual or Quick Start Guide. If you have a canner with series number 4220 or lower, this bypass is not an option. You will need to start the process over, completing all the steps, including the jar warming phase.
      Due to human error, it is best to remove the regulator and then add when the canner directs you to do so. This can affect the safety of your food as well.

I'm hoping it's the former, because the latter doesn't have good customer care implications. Any chance at all of making this available with a UK plug? There is an ever growing market here that would love to have this product, and many other products available on the US market, and yet we are ignored. To can 5 jars does it takes 90 minutes?

    • @PrestoAppliances
      @PrestoAppliances  ปีที่แล้ว

      The amount of time it takes to can certain food has nothing to do with the amount of jars. Ratehr, it has to do with the safe tested recipe and the time it takes to kill food born illness spores. The bacterium Clostridium botulinum produces a spore that makes a poisonous toxin which causes botulism. This spore is not destroyed at 212°F. In addition, this bacterium thrives on low-acid foods in the absence of air. Therefore, for a safe food product, low-acid foods need to be processed at 240°F, a temperature only achieved with pressure canning.

    I'm wondering what the "Vent" option is for when the regulator is on, the canning is complete and the cool down phase has begun. Is it possible to move the regulator to "Vent" and let the steam escape? Would this accelerate the cool down?

    • @PrestoAppliances
      @PrestoAppliances  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Releasing your steam/turning the regulator to vent will create siphoning from your jars along with other food safety issues. The Presto® Precise® Digital Canner has both “Vent” and “Can” settings for the regulator to accommodate the many different users of this product. As stated in the troubleshooting section of the instruction manual (seen below), some users may mistakenly forget to change the regulator from one function to another. Presto feels it important to provide instructional/canning recommendations to help assure that you have a positive/pleasant canning experience and your foods are processed correctly.

    What does E 50 mean?

    • @PrestoAppliances
      @PrestoAppliances  ปีที่แล้ว

      Adeline, the E50 code means there is steam escaping somewhere on the canner. Here are some things to check to see if it can be resolved. Check points for steam to escape:
      • Take your sealing ring and frame off the canner. Lay the frame flat on a level counter - does the entire frame touch the counter - if not it is bent and needs to be replaced.
      • Examine the sealing ring. Is it damaged/ ripped?
      • Check the “O” ring under the green latch. Is it a milky transparent color with ridges? If not we will need to replace this. Please send me a picture of this.
      Does the “O” ring appear crimped or have an indent?
      • Is there discoloration or maybe a small pin point hole on the NTC cup (the silver, metal circular piece that holds the “O” ring on underside of green latch)?
      • Under the vent pipe there is a small colander looking piece (filter). Take the colander off and check the nut that holds the vent pipe on. Is it loose? Tighten it. Then try your canner again.
      • When checking the nut that holds vent pipe on, is a white gasket visible around vent pipe (looking from top and bottom of cover)? If so, please send me a picture of this. You will need to take that little colander looking basket off the bottom of the vent pipe to see this.
      • Check that regulator is not damaged (silicone tip on inside, is it broken off)? If so, is vent pipe blocked?

      We reached out to our Test Kitchen to ask for their thoughts. They said it may be a reaction between compounds in the salmon and the rings/lids. Salmon can contain hydrogen sulfide. Another thing to consider is the new rings may have had a change in their plating. For this, we suggest reaching out to the ring manufacturer for their take on this as well.

No thank you. I was running to buy your product until I realised the interior was non stick! Change your values please. Not everything has to be made for 'easy cleaning'. My first time canning. I did beef stock and forgot to set the time so it defaulted to 10 minutes. It should have been 20 minutes. Can I fix this?

      Per our Presto Test Kitchen, you will want to reprocess this within 24 hours if your time was incorrect. You will want to replace the lids before you reprocess this as well. If we can help you further, please feel free to reach out to Presto Customer Service. You may call weekdays, 8:00 - 4:00 Central Time. Our phone number is 1-800-877-0441.

      @@PrestoAppliances, last night, I decided to err on the side of caution and just put all 8 pints in the refrigerator. Lesson learned! Thanks for responding.
