They looked down at the ashes of what used to be the Institution, and right next to it, the "hanging tree" if a kid, turning 13 didn't get adopted, they'd hang them, the kids were confused as to why the tree wasn't gone, then, in the blink of an eye, they found themselves in a garden, covered in black and somber blue, the angels sang "into the garden of shadows" that's what they were, shadows to society, shadows. Nothing more, nothing less. Just, shadows. And there they stay, for they found their place, under the hanging tree, in their own land of enchantment.
When I hear this song I think of a reaper who wants to take away the pain or send souls to a land of enchantment from children who are on deaths bed in their sleep peacefully , my reason being it says *come little children ill take thee away to a land of enchantment here in my garden of shadows* and *weep not poor children for life is this way murdering beuty and passions* the hanging tree is in said garden of shadows and the shadows are souls who have not passed on yet because they were murdered and not taken peacefully to a land of enchantment like what should have happend but in some unfortunate turn of events they were not taken peacefully and instead their souls became corrupted and shadowed

I want to share my opinion about the song as well! If we also considered the pictures here which is Zach and Ray. You could say Ray is the Angel and Zach is the Reaper. Ray would sing first to call for the souls of the children that still have unfinished business. Zach would be waiting in the Hanging Tree where there the souls can rest in peace. The meaning of the word *hanging tree* can't just be hanging people... For me it's like a stairway for the corrupted souls with unfinished business out there and once the Angel which is Ray be able to call them, she'll bring them to the Hanging Tree where the Zach, the Reaper is and once they are there they'll be able to go to the afterlife peacefully. And I thank you~! Just Kidding~ XD Edit: Let me just add this. I think of The Hanging Tree as a way to let the souls rest in peace because.... You could say... Ray would sing first to call for the souls of the children that still have unfinished business. Zach would be waiting in the Hanging Tree where there the souls can rest in peace. The meaning of the word *hanging tree* can't just be hanging people... For me it's like a stairway for the corrupted souls with unfinished business out there and once the Angel which is Ray be able to call them, she'll bring them to the Hanging Tree where the Zach, the Reaper is and once they are there they'll be able to go to the afterlife peacefully.
