What do those church authorities mean by "the gospel"? They apparently have never read the definition of "the gospel" of Christianity, which is defined in Romans 1.16 and 1 Corinthians 15.1-4. We are to be peaceable (Romans 12.18), but the gospel of peace is NOT news of coming unity and world peace. The gospel of peace is offensive (Matt 10.34) and divisive (Luke 12.51) to the world. The gospel of peace is the good news that through Jesus alone (not through an added "do your best" covenant path of religious rituals and moral living) sinners can be reconciled to God. Ephesians 2.13-17. 13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; 16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: 17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. 18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
