    Thanks Bridget. I've been practicing (clonking away) the piece in GT before I listened to the CD and you literally took my breath away. The lovely way you fade into the piece and the control of the tremolo is fantastic.

    I appreciate whenever someone is blunt about the time it can take to be able to do a technique. Otherwise I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be able to get something in 5 minutes or 5 weeks and I end up feeling totally lost haha. Thanks for that.

    Hi. I came from Classical Guitarshed tremolo video. He introduce tremolo very hard way. I told myself its very hard i cant do it. But today i find your video and your way is more easy. You teach very easy way . Thank you God bless you!

    One of the best videos regarding how to practice tremolo. A lot of videos go into tons of details regarding the exact angle of attack and so on , but frankly when you start playing you can't think about every small detail. The only true method to obtain a good tremolo is by playing with a metronome (one that also has the intermediate times, otherwise you'll end up playing an uneven tremolo) and hit every note in the right time. Also very nice that you are honest about the fact that is very boring and it takes a lot of time. It's only after your teacher made you play 20 times Recuerdos de la Alhambra with 30 bpm, one can truly understand the meaning of boring .
    Again, thumbs up, for being bluntly honest about the work needed for a good tremolo!

      30 bpm in 16th Notes Is actually 120 bpm. So It s not so slow

    Works really well in Goodbye Blue Sky. I've been practising a while - no one explained the thumb melody; perfect, infinite combinations possible - you've offered hours of fun, as it's kind of impossible to get going on classical guitar without recognising the tunes and learning the repertoire of techniques. Thanks. More structural stuff really appreciated.

    Thank you for this video, it is clear, concise, and extremely informative. Tremolo is a multi-faceted technique and there are many ways to go wrong. "Muddy" sound and galloping finger strikes are two of the most difficult pitfalls from which to recover. The practice tips and overall learning process you suggest have helped me no end on my way to producing a crisp, evenly spaced tremolo.

    • @zvonimirtosic6171

      Improvise with any chord of your choice. So with your left hand you practice chord progression, while with your right you try to keep the tremolo flowing. In the beginning it will be like tapping your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time. But, maybe you will like some progressions, and effects you create, and an idea for your own song will be born.

    Bridget, I find playing tremolo on the 2nd string much harder as for the Alhambra. Is there a way for you to show the position of the fingers more clearly or the shape of the fingernail or are there minute variances that make a difference that you’ve discovered. BTW, I like your protective adjustable fabric (sleeve). Protecting your finish of your instrument is part of guitar. Nice idea. I use a piece of chamois, a suede, that works well. Anyway, I’ve subbed and I’ll be dedicating time to the tremolo. My goal is the Alhambra. Thanks for the videos.

  • @drewlsy
    @drewlsy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    If one is not prone to growing their fingernails out, do you recommend those finger picks that come for each finger where you wear like rings or would using the actual finger-tip be enough to achieve the speed and accuracy?

    • @BridgetMermikides

      Hi, no the arm thing is to prevent 'sticking' to the edge to the guitar. It's a thing now with classical players to wear a cut off sock or some such thing - looks cool right? 😂

    Another good way of practising tremolo is on one string, that way it is easier to hear if it's even. I also found it extremely useful to practice in the following rhythm (still on one string): four semiquavers followed by crotchet (p a m i p ---) and then to vary the starting finger (a m i p a---, m i p a m ---, i p a m i ---), that way all fingers + thumb are treated equally and you avoid that gap between the thumb and the fingers.

    Bridget, what's on your right elbow? I ask because as a new player of 4 years and 63 YO, I'm battling pain right at/below my elbow and tendinitis on strumming hand.

    • @BridgetMermikides
      @BridgetMermikides  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, it's a cut off stocking on my elbow 😂. I don't like the feeling of 'sticking' to the guitar under my right arm when wearing short sleeves. Everyone's doing it nowadays! It's not to do with tendonitis, though I have had RSI problems in the past. You need to try and cultivate a relaxed technique. Try and identify where the tension is and do whatever it takes to undo that tension. Deep tissue massage can be helpful for tennis elbow. Good luck!
