    What a great review and loads of little tips and things to think about that I normally wouldn't have when looking for a trailer. Many thanks for taking the time to share with us.

    That does look like a fab trailer, love the shade cloth so many people don’t consider the wind factor on carrying loose material. If I had the need I’d certainly consider buying this one. Thank you

    Looks to be a good product mate. My old 6x4 is getting to the end of its life so I might consider one of these when we move down to tassie in November. Thanks for the video. Cheers, Andy

    The full length flat fenders look good, double as a step and handy for adding storage options down the track if required. Downside being materials such as sand, gravel etc are a PIA to clear out (ask me how I know). Lastly most of these trailers utilise ungalvanised hubs, springs and axle/s which some what defeats the purpose of a gal trailer. 99% of gal trailers in Aus are manufactured in China or Thailand

      I’ve got a similar 8x5 tandem axle unit with an extra long 1.9m drawbar.

    I bought 8x5 with cage from Stonegate. The floors on them are quite buckled from the welding and hot dip galvanizing and only being 2.5mm thick. The drop down tail gate at the front was perfect for the 3m gyprock sheets I had to pick up. The upright spare wheel bracket stopped them from sliding forward and I was able to close the back one. Will see how it goes long term.

    Good video! After purchasing a property over a year ago, the previous owner left a wonky cargo trailer (we're in the US, so size is probably 8 ft. x 4 ft./ 2.44m x 1.22m ???). We don't need it as a cargo but my husband wants to convert it to a flatbed. You made some good points in your demo of your own trailer. Shade cloth...that was clever. Thanks for the info. It is really helpful.

    Looks exactly like my "Stonegate" branded trailer, which is a chinese import. Down to the same latches, jockey wheel and way that the cage is connected etc.

    Did you end getting around to making the cage more easier to remove instead of being bolted down?

    • @homesteading
      @homesteading  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I used 6 lynch pins through the bolt holes to centre it and 4 over center fasteners to hold it down tight. Goes on/off in a couple of minutes and without tools.

    Chinese made trailer. Hope it lasts.

  • @Peter-ob6ue
    @Peter-ob6ue ปีที่แล้ว

    It's not a particularly good trailer it's not fitted with brakes, therefore the maximum load for that trailer is only 300 kilograms on the other hand a braked single axle can carry 1 tonne..
    Why not a 7X5 or 7X6? a 7X4 is very limited

    • @homesteading
      @homesteading  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maximum legal unbreaked weight is 750kg. Trailer weight is 220kg, hence load weight is 530kg. Larger trailer means more weight and less load...unless breaked. So personal choice and needs apply.

    • @Peter-ob6ue
      @Peter-ob6ue ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@homesteading No that's incorrect you are simply wrong, you can only haul 300 kilograms on an unbraked trailer. When a manufacturer says that an unbraked trailer has a rating of 750 kilograms they are misleading you! You must take into account the mass of the single axle un braked trailer which is around 300 to 450 kilograms then add that to the mass of a maximum load which is 300 kilograms. In addition state laws kick in and in Australia it's only 600 kilograms on the mainland maximum unbraked towing mass which INCLUDES THE WEIGHT OF YOUR TRAILER!. Therefore as I afore mentioned you can only legally and safely haul between 250-300 kilograms.
      On the other hand a single axle heavy duty braked trailer is allowed a total mass of 1350 kilograms which translates to roughly 1000 kilograms payload mass after subtracting the mass of the trailer 😀

    If it has a GVM of only 750kg it's certainly not the ultimate trailer - far from it.
