Started watching when I was like 14 in middle school and now I’m in my second year of university, minoring in theatre. My partner and I connected over both knowing poison boot. Mash is in my veins. I AM Mash
Well shit, now I REALLY hope it’s coming out soon, because this is such a great name and Come From Away is my favorite musical of the last however many years
The original version of "A short history of gay marriage" stated that Spain was the 3rd country to legalize gay marriage - Canada was 4th. My Spanish husband and I (Canadian) played that song at our wedding. It still moves me.
I have a copy of this in the depths of my external hard drive if you need it! I managed to get my hands on the album during my time at Sheridan (where come from away started!)
This show is my Roman Empire!!! I live in Toronto and I went and saw something around the time that this show came out, and an add for it was in the playbill. As a girl who did not know she was queer, I was lowkey fascinated by everything lesbian, so this always stayed in my mind. I hope someday to see it
* trying to listen, but distracted by the pretty scenery * Apparently the scene in CFA where the Kevins accidentally out themselves and end up hearing about everyone's queer relatives was derived from Sankoff and Hein fielding questions from Gander residents about their first musical.
I had a chance to see this show during one of its commercial runs in Toronto after its Fringe successes and I wish I'd bought the album then! It apparently wasn't of very good quality (possibly because, as you suggest, it had started as a demo recording), but man I wish I had it in my library. It's also worth noting that the show has had a pretty healthy regional life, at least in Canada, and it was even featured in the New York Musical Theatre Festival waaaaay back in 2010 (featuring Ann Harada!). Anyways. Here's hoping this absolutely beautiful little show about a very loving family gets to find a new audience in the years to come.
The idea that for several years I have been listening regularly to a lost piece of history is - well - terrifying. Please - save me from possibly being the only repository of this cast recoding.
So it does look like they also did a charity benifit concert of it in 2020 with Mirvish so they may be reworking it instead of wiping it from the internet! We can hope!
I had several interactions with Sankoff and Hein back when it was possible to wring some good out of Twitter. They (and lots of the original Come From Away performers, and the real-life people on whom they were based) were utterly delightful and kind. I love Come From Away and would definitely be down for anything else they do.
Its also possible that the album is locked to canada. I dont know where the show was put up but as someone with an american spotify who lives in Toronto, I cant always open my friends albums on spotify and they appear greyed out like this.
"You can't just send them the sheet music, they're producers they don't know how to read that"

Oh wow? Where did you find that recording?
I like to believe that you’re just always wandering the woods talking about musicals, and just happen to decide to record it every so often.
I’ll be wandering out here until I can fetch the things to make the potion!

Ur content has been the best theatre content since sliced bread. So happy you have more time for TH-cam again!

Hopefully the show and/or cast album will resurface

If this channel did sponsorships that would be a primo segue into a VPN ad (if that is the case with this album).
can confirm from vancouver. it is also greyed out for me :(
Thanks for checking!
