The champions league is much shorter and due to the tournament's format not all teams play each other unlike the league where they all do home and away.
Utd were absolutely deserving to finish second, lille were absolutely deserved champions. Every team that has ever won their respective domestic league did so because they were the best that season, it's as simple as that.

Too many teams come up against City, to manage their own defeat, rather than putting up a real fight. How many times have we seen where teams that come to fight, teams that press and score, throw City for loops? They are not used to being under pressure and it seems like the first signs of real adversity, they just collapse, and do so rather spectacularly. This should send a message to every City opponent - Fight for your chances, make the effort and believe a little - get a foot in the door and you can invade the entire castle, but you have to fight rather than just try to manage the level of your defeat.

PLEASE CAN YOU GET SIMON TO READ THIS. Simon get it through your head, the european cup is the big one, the jewel in the crown. As a Liverpool supporter yes the league is a must, but it's still not comparable to the european cup. See how the players/managers are determined and tense in this competition... see the way they will do anything to win? it's because it's the big one! and no it's more than monetary gain. It's the glamour, prestige, you dream about it from childhood days. League titles and i'll say it, it's a flat track bully operation for a couple of teams or maybe one team all depends. You're not going into league games like a final, knockout pressure cooker games are you? only the last few games if there is a title race even then it can't match the CL. League is good for those who know how to beat the unprepared teams, the lower teams, less hungrier teams. CL requires you to be the best on the day, you have to produce in intense atmosphere and pressure. For me thats what makes a you a great team. Not picking up 3 points at norwich, leeds etc and let's be honest with another thing, our league is garbage. Most teams are not tactically savy or technical.

A season from now or next year when City go to the final for the second time. The very same media will ask this very question, " Can City get over the line?". Yes, I think they can. I believe it's more or a character issue than skillz and football IQ that is a problem. And how you build character? By being in situations like this, playing games like Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, for me those are the games that build you as a team. Just because you have an expensive squad, does not mean you will win everything, example : look at the Real Madrid team, that had Beckham, Luis Figo, Ronaldo ( Brazilian), and Roberto Carlos, etc. It was an expensive squad at the time. But they never won everything in their way. Its will take time for City to win champions league and let us not forget they are playing the best in Europe also, it's not called Champions league for nothing. Let's give respect to other teams also. Not only English teams matter or are given the right to win champions league, just because those teams play in the best league in Europe.

You've bottled a lead and behind within a minute of extra time and all you can come up with is a last minute chance from Fernandinho, that's simply pathetic.. Ppl make the excuse that our best players had been substituted but I remember Liverpool making a comeback after losing Salah and Firrmino in the second leg against Barca (I mean the Liverpool line up that day was disgraceful against that Barca side but they gave a performance)... Real Madrid aren’t determined...they’re scarier. Real are like a footballer playing the garden with their child. He allows them to score but at any moment that adult can score 10 past the child in 5 minutes AT WILL!! That’s Hala Madrid.

This is giving me flashbacks of when childhood when we would play street football against some big boys in the neighborhood
Even with our best efforts, these guys could always run circles around us in just 2 minutes when they are tired of playing around with us

Liverpool are the best team in Europe. They had a huge injury list last season peak for peak Liverpool smoke city. Pep just needs to buy a striker tried to take the game back last night slinging long balls up with foden, Sterling and Grealish as target men. Still referee needs to be investigated how did foden give away a foul when that Madrid lad flew through back of him. All real players should of been on yellow in first half alone yet more city players got booked. Should of been 6 minutes added on in extra time and he gave 3 and ended after 2:45 seconds when city just won the ball back

Im a liverpool fan, been one long enough to know how unpredictable football is! You look at LFC history and see how teams can pull games back, nobody expected LFC to overturn Barca but they did, thats what the CL is about. It is a crazy competition. People talking about sacking pep are bonkers! He has won everything else, probably going to win the PL again this season and if that isnt enough for a club thats only really been competing since 08/09! LFC waited decades for a title and Klopps job has never been in danger since he came, even when we didn't win cups!

City needs to learn the dark arts of how to starve teams and see games out. The moral high ground they stand on is pathetic. It's about winning, by any means necessary!

Spot on. I remember 2016 and 17 campaigns where Madrid was also not the best side against Bayern and juve but they won. Some say due to dodgy penalties and red cards but they won. City are too nice and flamboyant, sometimes you need to kick the opponent a bit and do a Ramos or Pepe.

It happens in football, in those mysterious night time games, usually from the home side. There is something magical, moments of incomprehensible irrationality. When a momentous series of incidents of unbelievable alchemy occur. It was an Aguero moment in reverse.
