    Offering up public transit alternatives or finding other ways to provide people a smooth way to work. I can definitely see some use just placing pathways leading directly to the industrial district, maybe with parking space nearby to make use of that. You have a fair bit of free space on both sides of the arterial road next to the industry, make use of it when and where possible. Just provide as many ways to travel as you can.

    That roundabout is the only exit onto that main street. That entire neighborhood uses that roundabout to exit. Gotta make another street entering onto that main street

      Yep I’ve actually just changed a road to one way that joins the neighbourhood to the left, so now they cant get out on the same street, they have to go a different way to get onto the 4 lane and this helps a lot

      @@WhatDarrenPlaysyou messed up the arrows in he industrial area on the one way road, left lane only goes left, right lane goes straight and right, it messed with my brain because the next road has oncoming traffic and would cause tons of accidents irl. Love the series, both started playing again at the same time, funny how great minds think alike!

    Darren try swapping the one ways you have going into and out of the industrial area I think it could be an improvement for the traffic, no one seems to be using the one exiting the industrial area but if you swapped them it would create a nicer path to get in and out.

    If you place a cargo train station near the farm it could solve the problem with the trucks exporting crops as at least some of them will need to travel only to the train station, no longer to the edge of the map.
    It could also create traffic with other industry exporting and commercial buildings importing goods through it, so you would need to be careful where and how you'd place it.

    another industrial region in the north east of the city would be pointless considering you want to build an oil rafinery on the north coast witch in itself would provide jobs to the suburbians, but if you decide to not buy that "oil" square it wouldn't be so pointless. Btw i love your way of building the city, cheers :)

    I think the trafic is going mainly to the industrial zone so maybe make a dedicated bridge/tunnel from the suberb to the industrial zone.

    life tip. not many people drive how there ment to drive, so always expect them to do the most dangerous and stupid thing, and plan accordingly, also that problem with stopping cars on the roundabout could be fixed with an asymetrical road

    The disappearing cars is what I call "pocket cars" mechanic in this game where people able to literally putting in and getting out cars from their pockets without the need of parking. If you're using TM:PE mod, You can change it by turning on 'Realistic Parking AI' option in Pause Option Menu. So everyone have to park their cars if they're using it, it can make another traffic problem though, but I personally like it that way.

      Then again, with it on, they don't leave something like an arena and then immediately clog up the road with pocket cars.

      But now with the plaza & promenade dlc I can use pedestrian roads on vanilla, and I always put high traffic maker like sports arenas and stadiums on it, so they have to walk... For miles XD

    Your problem is your roads are too small. At junctions where there are 3 ways to exit provide 3 lane roads, where only 2 exits provide 2 lane roads, etc. Make use of assymetrical roads if space is at a premium. More overpasses for pedestrians would remove the need for cars stopping (you know this already but don't implement it for the fast roads into the industry area). Underpasses work same but less eye-candy. The roundabout you built probably should be 3 lane, with lane arrows to control.

    on the roundabout where the cars keep stopping make it so they dont have to cut over the outer lane, you could make the right turn go right and straight on meaning better flow

    I can see a few options; Give the people more oppurtunities to access the collector, or give people oppurtunities to bypass the collector with a bridge right into the industrial district.
    Having a 4 lane road doesn't really help if no one is taking a right turn.

      PS: I think Rosie being more careful in traffic is always better then doing it the other way around 😉I hope you enjoy your first driving lesson! The more you do it, the more becoming one-with-traffic will be as simple as putting on clothes.

      I forgot one option! I bet more people will come up with this: Change your roundabout to 3 lanes. Shift Left Click on the roundabout itself. And try it without the lane connectors.

    turn the 4 lanes surrounding the city into a highway road type and create like intersections along the way but make sure that cars don’t stop while they’re getting off the highway. Just a suggestion for a better traffic flow

    Maybe put a warehouse close to the factory to store materials so they don't need to rely of the small number of silo drivers and have less distance to pick up.

    @51:56 that road t'ing into the roundabout could be upgraded from a 2 lane 2 way road to a 3 lane 2 way road and give it 2 lanes into the roundabout, so that those who are turning right onto the collector can take a the outside lane, and those going around the roundabout can take the inner lane so that they don't block traffic for those going right. You could also give a pedestrian bridge over the collector road to the Industrial park so that the people waking to work there can cross the road with out blocking traffic.

    the roundabout into the industrial section needs to have the two one way roads reversed. All the cars enter from the roundabout

    For your loop road (outer arterial) i would suggest upgrading them to something with sound barrier to make ppl happier and decrease noise. The road with barrier is also a faster road so trucks etc will chose to use it more then cut across the city

    In terms of retirement age, some countries have it up to 68-75 even... So your setting actually represents some form of reality 😂

    You probably won’t see this but your fences are blocking your crops. Therefore ALL of your trucks are busy importing goods.
    You cannot run a fence in front of your crops where the trucks enter and leave the assets. It blocks their path. Been watching the crop assets since you’ve placed the fences and not 1 truck has entered/left any of them that have a fence along the front of them.

    First, good job on spotting the retirement fix. Maybe you saw my comment or maybe you saw it yourself, either way it will help fix the problem. Second, as I can understand it the problem with traffic congestion is in the way you've designed the residential areas. There just are not enough convenient, direct routes to both industrial and commercial zones. There are a whole lot of dead-ends and so, so many exits that would be convenient if they were not in the direction of a city that just does not yet exist. You've made it very easy to get to the north or the bay, but there's nothing there. ALL the heavy industry is in one place. ALL the farming industry in in one place. 85% of all commercial in in one place with just a little bit located elsewhere. Of course, there would be horrible traffic along one or two direct routes people have to get to work from all corners of the town. This is the exact thing you have said yourself Darren: you wanted to make a town with dead-ends everywhere and thereby you have created this traffic problem yourself. Making it even worse by concentrating all the commercial and industry zones with limited access to them. And it is only going to get worse as you expand the town. Also logistically putting the industrial bakery so far away from farming area and across a bridge, and behind two roundabouts was not a great thing. That is one of the reasons it takes sometimes so much time to fill it up.

    Where i am from you do not have to turn right at the next exit in a 2 lane round about, unless it is explicit marked so! Maybe look into it or ask someone from your region, because wrong behavior in a round about can be really dangerous.

    49:10 You are technically correct about roundabout etiquette, but you should never presume such (someday, someone on a cellphone might T-bone your vehicle because of that). Over in the UK, it likely is much better, but here in the States, you absolutely cannot think that, because people do stupid things. A good rule of thumb is to assume that anyone else you see driving will not follow any minor (or major, for that matter) rules of the road. Most people do drive well, it is just the stupidity stands out spectacularly, and they shouldn't be making the mistakes that they do.

    Another great video! I'm not sure whether you already know this but there is a keyboard command (ctrl+shift+click i think) where it sets up the roundabout lane rules and give way signs etc for you :)

      Do you have to be in some menu to do it? doesnt seem to work for me if I'm just looking at a road, I assume I need an overlay, or to activate tmpe or something?

      @@WhatDarrenPlays for a roundabout of this size and traffic intensity, make sure to have 3 lanes. With 2, you have too many collisions. Also an asymetric 2 out 1 in road would improve the flow, if you don't have a small road with 4 lanes. You could also change back the one way road again to both ways to provide direct access and make it the main road through the industrial area.
      I really like the realistic approach in your play troughs.

      @@WhatDarrenPlays I think when you have the traffic mod open, click on the roundabout itself, and then in the top left of the screen there’s usually a list of things you can do. If you watch Biffa’s videos he does it a lot too - that’s how I found out about it!

    Instead of the new roundabout you should have a single lane road branching off before the junction, tunneling under the arterial road and running directly into the industrial estate. Industry traffic wouldn't be getting in the way of other commuters.

    Despite the Roundabout madness :) somehow it was a very enjoyable episode to watch. I think you got it in the end, it was cars coming in from the north and trying to clear both lanes to jump in the left/inside lane of the roundabout (If that makes any sense) lol.
    Great episode City looks great morning and night.

    It seems a lot of the cars on the north road only ever want to join on to that inner lane, which is also the lane the most of the cars from the east are on.
    Perhaps for the western side of the round about you can allow cars to around to the south on either the inner or outer lanes, then swap the one way roads connecting in to the industrial around so cars from the north can flow through the round straight in to the industrial district, instead of backing up waiting to get on to the inner lane?

    Enjoying the episode - I love and hate roundabouts, great when they work but can take a ton of time to fix when they don't. On the Farm Industry (or any industry), I like to have one silo or warehouse for each good set to empty and I think that one will catch the overflow of the crops or animal products and sell them. This seems to increase my profits a bit and allows more of the trucks in the other storage locations distribute the goods. That being said, it always does seem that delivering good from the industry area to warehouses near the unique factory can be a bit buggy.

    @22:35 It can be a real thing. That's where road markings come into play. You might have text on the road that tells you what the purpose of the lane is, like M'Way, or City Center, or it might be shown by the broken lane lines showing you which way to move from the entry point onto the roundabout. Often both together. Also, you could have approach signs that show you how the roundabout is configured before you get to it.
    @27:34 the broken lines are the lane marking. If it continues round the roundabout, that means you shouldn't use the inside lane to exit. You should exit from the outside lane, and you should be in the correct lane before you get to the exit.
    If you have any more problems with that roundabout, there are both 3 and 4 lane one way small roads in the game now, so you can have 1 or 2 lanes leaving and however many going round as appropriate.

    Just FYI, there is nothing wrong with Rosie waiting to confirm that the cars are turning. That is called defensive driving. Just because someone has an indicator on doesn't mean that is what they will do. Many people change their minds at the last second so kudos to her for being cautious.
    I would also make that one way road that feeds from the industrial area to that roundabout a two way street. That way cars can utilize that as another route to the industrial area.

      Totally, didn’t really give the full context when I said it, but I dont judge her badly for it, she’s 100% in the right to be more cautious than risky, and she’s by no means slow or stuck on the edge of roundabout for ages or anything!
      And I’ve got another idea for the road but I may try that too!

    26:34 I have been staring at the house on the roundabout the whole time, thank god u removed it , and try splitting the industrial section like intead of 1 big sectionhave 3 or 4 smaller ones not super close to each other :)

    Hey Darren! Checking back in after awhile. I watched most of your Anno 1800 playthrough, live. Just popping in to comment, (been watching) your city always looks so Realistic compared to mine, even if I do get most of the same MODs... I'm hoping CS-2 Fixes that for me. lol

    I feel like the lights you added, although kind of useful, make very little sense. You have a bridge above it, so the lights stop the (I for whatever reason think the bay is north) Westbound traffic for no real reason. If you shift the lights down one more East intersection, it might give you that space you need. You would just need to add another way in on that end of the Industrial Park.

    Maybe a bus line to and from the industrial park to the where the working is staying will reduce traffic, and also there is a policy for free public transport, that will encourage people to use it,

    Is it worth adding a way for the trucks to get directly from the highway into the industrial zone rather than having to go to the roundabout and then back in. Will reduce the amount of traffic hitting those lights you've just added and also speed up delivery of the crops and things to your bakery.

    I think you would need slip lanes in that particluar roundabout. A sliplane which turns on the main two streets could solve it

    quik tip: you can click on the road and see all the trfic going trough there! No need to click each car.

    Nice episode, I like how you present things.
    Could you give a review of the income sources of your city ? I know you sometimes huge stockpile of agriculture, but some hard numbers will be nice.
    also, it's not clear who owns everything in this city: does the city own the land or the people ? is the industry/agriculture/water pump/garbage/library building are owned by the city or it's private owned ? I find it confusing if you run a soviet style city or not.

    From experience if you let the lane rules for the roundabout option from TMPE do what it wants instead of using the lane adjustment guides it will run smoother and faster. Your adjustments are fine if there was heavy flow but with the light flow it currently has it just slows it down
    Edit: You mostly fixed it at the end. The only thing that might help, even though it doesn't sound right, is that the interior lanes should travel only inside the roundabout. They shouldn't be used as exits. If it slows down when you get heavier traffic this might help because if the center lane is used as an exit it could cause a traffic jam on the roundabout.

    May i suggest a two lane fly-over instead of the roundabout. Therefore the workers can commute to and from work without unsing the aterial round. Perhabs lower the ground of the aterial und raise the city road a bit so the flyover doesnot have to be to long...

    Considering most of the roundabout problem comes from people getting in and out of the industrial zone, I suggest you make a bridge just for them or smth, either way, you should check in your districs policies, I'm pretty sure last episode you could have putted a policy that prohibits traffic from non residents in the center district (I think it's spruce district) this may cause lots of people to avoid other junctions and just use this one. Either way, pretty nice looking city. Can't wait for sweet high density to appear.

    6 meters is way to high for a pedestrian bridge. You should do like 3 meters. It is more realistic.

    I mean, it will add more depth to that area

      @@WhatDarrenPlays you can. There are few ways to do this. Easiest one is with your roundabout builder. Also, using Bigger road & Anarchy will do. But my favorite is using Node Controller & Move it mods.

      @@WhatDarrenPlays Best way is to use the Node Controller and Move it. Create a small segment of road at the end of the cul-de-sac and use the Node controller to make it about double width of normal, then use the Move-it mod to move the last segment until the nodes are almost on top of each other and you have a natural looking end of a cul-de-sac. If you want to put houses around the bulb, like you see in real life, then you may need to use RICO to plop houses down with out worrying about them despawning.

    At 49:15 you talk about being allowed to go straight away in a round about even when people are on the lane where they should take the turn. First thing you learn whilst driving a car is to think for yourself and for others, especially for others. Drivers do some complete bs on the road. I don't want to tell you how many times I was given the right of way and was able to prevent an accident because I knew that he/she would simply drive through.

    I will say that when it comes to trusting others drivers to do what they’re indicating they’re doing, it is better to make sure rather than getting creamed cause the other person changed his mind half way or didn’t mean to have their turn signal on. Especially in roundabouts. I personally don’t like them. They seem unnecessary to me. And you have to keep in mind. 50% of people who have been in car accidents were the innocent drivers so even if you do everything right doesn’t mean the other people follow the same rules.
