4:38-4:50 may as well be Sol’s entire backstory from what I’ve understood so far

From what you described at the midway point. They change from majors to minors constantly, and that fits in a sense. The song's lyrics are basically rebellious, so it's literally a song about struggling. The final bit when they say 'game' is them using both at the same time, so it sounds extremely discordant, but because it's used as a final note on a final lyric it goes from a feeling of discord to punctuated finality bringing the conflicting sounds together. I don't know if that's what you were about to say, but it feels right and I think it more or less sums up a lot of the odd tones going on.

A little late to the party, but hearing someone in the same field I'm going to school in nerding about the music I absolutely LOVE, and my love has only increased from learning how deep music composition goes, really makes me feel even more validated in why I love Guilty Gear's music so much. What's great about Guilty Gear, is *every* single piece of music has something to offer, each character's themes are crafted so weirdly perfectly, when you hear the song, you instantly think of the character. Not only is it good for character identity, it's also just really well made when it comes to recording. It's so interesting to listen to each song critically, and hear the amount of layers in each musical aspect, vocals and guitars especially. The harmonies used to represent each character, and the game as a whole for that matter, is spectacular. The gritty nature of "Smell of the Game" really shows how badass this game is, and how powerful it makes YOU the player feel. It's a lifting experience to both appreciate the music on a whole different level, as well as just feel like a kickass vigilante when playing the game.
Anyways, I love your content man, keep it up!

The choice to take the "If the words kill me I don't need a[...]" phrase and stretch the first few notes and create a descending pattern really gives the last "NEW WORLD ORDER" a huge impact. It speeds up and descends so there's a TON of momentum. Definitely my favorite bit.

Guilty Gear as a franchise has a WILD Musical history given how deeply Daisuke Ishiwatari has always drawn from grungy ass metal to inspire so much of this franchise.
There's literally a dude in this franchise named Slayer. It's almost Jojo levels of on-the-nose musical reference... but in a fighting game franchise that has such a crazy cast and volumes upon volumes of lore on it's twice-over post apocalyptic world.

I lost my singing voice during puberty and learning vocal distortion, or vocal fry as we call it in voice over, is what helped me ease back into singing. So hearing you comment on how difficult it is to sing a melody with distortion, I appreciated the acknowledgement. Not only to hit the notes, but also the amount of breath control and capacity you need. Love hearing your breakdowns!

The Guilty Gear series has always had some great rock music. Daisuke Ishiwatari also voiced the main character for many entries in the series.
Guilty Gear Xrd's "Heavy Day" was a great welcome back to the series that had really been treading mud on a bunch of X2 remakes. They cranked up the budget and even gave a full-on Anime with Xrd and Xrd Rev 2. I'd recommend checking the Guilty Gear X opening as it has a number of OST tracks on display.
I'm curious what Strive is going for since the ending of Xrd really did wrap up everything from the first game through all the loose ends of X2.

Just wanted to let you know that your videos have been facsinating to me. I've been learning music theory privately for a while now, even before watching your vids, but your analysis of video game music (which i always loved more than a lot of popular and/or mainstream music) helped me see implications of things i learned in songs, as well as actually learn new stuff! your videos have been a great method of getting me more and more interested in music and inspires me to hopefully be able to make songs that do at least a few of these great techniques im seeing and hearing all the time. It's especially great to see your compositions that break down or reverse engineer pieces. I love your content!

Daisuke Ishiwatari fills Guilty Gear to the brim with rock/metal references the same way Hirohiko Araki fills JJBA with music references. From character and special moves referencing iconic bands and songs like Slayer, Ride The Lightning, Iron Maiden, etc, to super attacks being called Overdrive (while BlazBlue calls them Distortion), and then you straight up just have young Axl Rose being a character in the game called Axl Low. Love it
