Defending is hell in Fifa 22. I had to reduce difficulty level. I score enough, but the results become ridicolous. I lose 5-4, 6-4 and have stupid results like that on legendary.
My issue with the defending (vs. AI) in this FIFA is that a) the AI, no matter the level of the team, is capable of insane one-touch football inside your penalty box and b) your own team's AI does bizarre things such as CMs strolling up the pitch once you've switched away from them while the attack goes on behind them and the defensive line moving insanely high up the pitch or put of position no matter what instructions I set. I like the way you can build attacks yourself but the defensive AI is awful and broken.

It will pick the players not by the ball sometimes, they do 1 touch, I feel the defending is like a second behind and then with that they either get a goal or a good shot off, but it’s really shit as like you said you can score loads but concede and sometimes you win like 7/8 - 0 then next level defenders get worse it seems as just won’t bloody tackle in time
Thank you, I play career mode and have 0 contact with the community, so I thought I was going insane with the fact that I cannot for the life of me defend against AI for exactly those reasons. I figured I was doing something wrong either in-game or with formations and stuff. My MFs always stand still upfield. If I bring back one of them (even switching to them is hard), the AI brings in another 1-2 runners that nobody on my team tracks on their own. While the AI's MFs are capable of tracking back and forming a neat compact line in front of the defense, my midfielders just stand and watch. I can at the very best get one to pressure the ball while I defend with the other, if I get lucky and one of them is close to the ball in the first place. My defenders mostly sit in formation so once the ball is in my penalty box there is no way I can manually defend against 3-4 players moving around at the same time with how fast they pass to each other. It's like I'm playing outnumbered against tiki-taka counter-attacks 100% of the time, even when my team should have ample time to get into a defensive formation. It just ruined the game for me after a certain point, one level is too easy because attacking is a breeze. The next one is just challenging enough up front, but defending is utterly pointless and frustrating. I literally would rather have the AI just play itself when I'm out of possession.
I like to defend from behind when I can but this year the AI is so terrible my defensive line will literally just stand there while I control the player from behind and attackers just run past them, its extremely frustrating . With that and a bevy of other reasons that make the game feel "cheap" I'm considering quitting fifa altogether, its a shame. I used to be very good at these games.
im not even bad at defending it just feels like the ai does literally nothing and i have to control every single one of them individually like im supposed to have 11 controllers. its crazy they leave so much open space and do literally nothing when the other team is attacking
These tips are cap, il tell you what you need. A back 4 which includes kimpempe, marquinhos, varane or upamecano. Or if you wanna be a proper dirty rat, try get them all in. 20 WL ez. Say no more
My opponents can always run through my defense. It doesn't matter what I do. When my opponent is doing a skillmove I just can't defend it and runs past my defender.
Against skillers , defend spaces, don't drag defenders out of position, its tempting to rush at them, and avoid stand tackles except you are 💯 sure that you are getting the ball, skillers want you to commit that's why they spam skill moves, never stand tackle in box it's a sure penalty for your opponent, hope this helps!
Their is only so much you can do to defend. I still make the same mistake on spamming tackle and i concede. Defend the space and get the block etc. if they manage to score, you got to give them credit.

As for me ...the way I defend is similar to this ...I control my midfielders must of the time .I do this so I won't put my defenders out of position ..when the balls get to my box I will still be controlling my midfielders..but then I will call for second teammates

Play on ps5. U cant park the bus on ps4 device u need to switch device if u want to bunker like a Rat. Even better get mbappe and vini jr, so u can run down the wing with ball roll scoop turns into sprint boost than cutback goal. If that dont work, just player lock on the wing so u Irritate the opponent or just bunker and play through balls to mbappe and vini.
Anyone knows why players won't go on the ball to get it but instead the walk backwards or sideways as a result enemy gets all the space he needs to get a goall idk it's frustrating ...

try not to use the siding tackle as it leaves you vulnerable if he passes you. Use the O button to tackle while not giving the whole space away, Try to follow the attacker until they take a heavy touch. Finally, the X button is for pressing. I recommend not using that button for the time being as you are still trying to learn the basics.
Just use the jokey attack ..hold down L2 or what ever you use to ball protect (I customize my controls)...your defender won't make heavy turns or be dribbled easily ..check out Bora's legend for tutorials
There's a neat quick tackle with R1+ O (Rb+B) which is a mix of standing tackle O or B and sliding tackle square or X. It is very effective when the opponent is taking a shot at your net. I play legendary and world class when I'm at worst. You should switch players with the right analogue stick more when defending and cut off your opponent's passing lanes. This makes the players very likely to intercept the ball. This year you can just crash into the opponent and AI will take the ball for you from the attacker which is much safer than tackling recklessly and unsuccessful tackles is unnerving make you lose a lot of games.
I hate Fifa 21 & 22 because the defending is BULLSHIT!!!!!! I press the X button and my players are just running all over the place and can't take the ball from the opponent.

Nice video... but you should show these tips on a game against a good, competent player... your opponent there was not even close to that... you're playing against a guy that I'm 100% sure can't win a single game on Legendary against the AI by watching how he plays... so, because in FIFA you'll encounter a lot of bad players and very few good ones until you're in Divisions 1-3 you should show people how to defend against good players... because the way you just showed it to them will be absolutely useless for them against a good player that will exploit their lack of understanding 100% of the time... a good player will almost never take a stupid strong touch and leave the ball open... a good player will abuse the L2 ball covering techniques, a good player will also abuse the L1 size-up ball control technique... a good player will use an extra pass before the actual through ball just to create more space for the ball to go through... a good player will bait you to press high by playing a pass back and then destroying your press with good timely passes to exploit the space you gave him between your lines... Look, I'm not saying it's a bad video... it's not, it's a good video... people need to know that they can't defend with containing and second man press anymore like they used to and that they need to manually follow the runners to stop them... but showing only very simplistic moments of the game will not make them understand it fully because they need to see more complex passing situations and movement situations and you countering them with your defense to understand how to defend for real and not only in very very simple situations where your interception is done more because the attacker made a bad pass... I'm a career mode player but I suck with defending I sprint everywhere always playing forced forward passes but attack is the best form of defense if you can't defend right 🤣 think these tips will help me massively just trying to enjoy playing rather than just getting pissed off with overpowerd ai so I'm going back to basics slowing things down etc. It's difficult to play against AI as you can't pick up habits and weaknesses real players show, thanks for the tips I'll be watching a lot more 👌🏼

Yessssss Same thing happens to me and when that happens they and the opponent gets the ball they just easily runs to the goal and scores cause no one is defending it that's literally the reason why after playing for the first 3 days I went from division 7 all they way back to division 10

How do you shoulder barge an attacker without triggering tackle. Sometimes I just wanna barge or pull an attacker but instead of any of those it triggers the tackle animation.
@@TheZeRa8 Even at 100 depth they will walk far far back, when the attackers come running. They track them into the box. So the entire back line stands in front of the keeper. Depth doesn’t fix this. Tried everything.
Defending is the first thing I mastered well in FIFA I won LA LIGA unbeaten with 6 goals conceded on Ultimate difficulty IMO skill and freekick are the most difficult thing to master in FIFA
My question is why are my LB and RB always coming to the centre of the pitch, sometimes they just leave their positions. Spread the width or narrow they never cover their positions, they run into the box when I have my CB there. Before the patch defenders were normal but after they just do as they please. This issue is costing me loads of goals.
Never played Fifa before, but started because it was free on PSN. Semi pro was quickly to easy while scoring 6 ish goals a game. Pro is close games for me but sometimes you blow out low chem teams.. the defending is so inconsistent from match to match… some games i just can’t get near them but still find a way to win.. player switching is awful of course.. still enjoy playing the game but i thought the defending was me until i read all the comments on video’s

I don't know about y'all, I play career mode on Ultimate difficulty. And I restart alot of times but the way you conceed goals can make you run mad, especially kick-off goals, it's just so unrealistic. And it's a Miracle to win the ball in midfield because in ultimate difficulty, every team plays like prime barcelona, they all know how to dribble and pass the ball, so once your opponent gets a goal kick, they all build from the back and you can hardly win the ball in midfield till they progress to your defence, they will use the flanks, dribble the shit out of your fullbacks then cut back to a player in the middle for a first time shot which goes in 80% of the time, they don't cross, they will dribble all your players even if it is an unskilled winger in real life. It's just like the computer Ai in ultimate difficulty are fifa street players. I score lots of goals, I can score more than 100 league goals in a season alone but can't keep up to 5 clean sheets in a whole season. And yes once you're like 2 goals up, from the 75th minute, computer becomes a pressing machine and all your passes starts going wrong mysteriously. It is a herculian task to beat their press at that point. So once I'm winning like 3-1, and that pressing from computer begins, I just jump to result. Let us all defraud ourselves. Fifa needs to fix this in their next game.
How can EA spend millions in this game every year but still make a garbage broken system that is ages behind PES, it boggles my mind. Konami in the dirt with their current decisions for their football game yet they still somehow manage to make a better and more realistic in-game experience than this massive behemoth of football games. Annoys me so much, what do they even do every year? FIFA 23 is just as bad when it comes to defending.
the problem with this entire video is you're demonstrating how to defend against human opponents. There's nothing special about that, it's piss easy to defend against humans. Try some of your aggressive charging in against the AI and you'll get your arse handed to you

I played on keyboard for 1½ years... It's very difficult to play on keyboard and mouse in comparison to a controller..buy a controller mate..they are cheap.
Too basic for me im on division 1. I search to figure how to defend against skill moves spam and the thing when they use their back going up down up and beat ur deffender, and how some people press so high that u dont have any options.

I mostly play seasons and in between div 1 -3 ( mostly div 2 ). But finally I won 2 Div 1 titles with FiFA 22. So, I guess I am not that of a bad player. My biggest and only problem is defending. Sometimes I feel my players tackle doesn’t work at all. I understand loosing to better stats player than me but not below me. I feel this FiFa or any Fifa is rigged !
You midfielders track back to stay in front of your box, your defenders stay behind in the box, and you players actively spread out when you get the ball and go on the counter. It is totally different with me. My midfielders don't track back. My defenders are all alone against the attackers and they don't mark closely.
don't matter how good you defend when your defender is programmed to step back and let a striker receive a pass in the box to score an easy goal because of the scripted ass dogshit game ea has produced

It's like AI just takes the ball from me regardless. I play a pass up my line and their defender predicts it and runs past my 99 pace winger taking the ball. What button is he using to press this hard? He doesn't even seem to tackle. Just runs straight through even when I'm not sprinting and I should have reasonable control of the ball

I'm a career mode player but I suck with defending I sprint everywhere always playing forced forward passes but attack is the best form of defense if you can't defend right 🤣 think these tips will help me massively just trying to enjoy playing rather than just getting pissed off with overpowerd ai so I'm going back to basics slowing things down etc. It's difficult to play against AI as you can't pick up habits and weaknesses real players show, thanks for the tips I'll be watching a lot more 👌🏼
ahahaha same like attacking is more easier. like i try to steal the ball but either the player runs too forward or too back😂 so i just spam square until the player falls😂😂😂

I try and control defenders as little as possible to keep shape. I block passing lanes with midfielders and call 2nd players to press the ball

Yessssss Same thing happens to me and when that happens they and the opponent gets the ball they just easily runs to the goal and scores cause no one is defending it that's literally the reason why after playing for the first 3 days I went from division 7 all they way back to division 10

How do you shoulder barge an attacker without triggering tackle. Sometimes I just wanna barge or pull an attacker but instead of any of those it triggers the tackle animation.
To pull an opponent u need to be behind them

@@TheZeRa8 Even at 100 depth they will walk far far back, when the attackers come running. They track them into the box. So the entire back line stands in front of the keeper. Depth doesn’t fix this. Tried everything.

My question is why are my LB and RB always coming to the centre of the pitch, sometimes they just leave their positions. Spread the width or narrow they never cover their positions, they run into the box when I have my CB there. Before the patch defenders were normal but after they just do as they please. This issue is costing me loads of goals.
Use conservative interception’s and see if it helps.

Never played Fifa before, but started because it was free on PSN. Semi pro was quickly to easy while scoring 6 ish goals a game. Pro is close games for me but sometimes you blow out low chem teams.. the defending is so inconsistent from match to match… some games i just can’t get near them but still find a way to win.. player switching is awful of course.. still enjoy playing the game but i thought the defending was me until i read all the comments on video’s

4 back with both or 1 fullbacks on stay back on attack.
2 CDM formation on stay back on attack.
If you have wingers put them on come back on defense.
Slowly build up the game by short pass, if cpu keep pressuring you , do pass back to the keeper. No solo dribble fancy run as it will not work.
I don't know about y'all, I play career mode on Ultimate difficulty. And I restart alot of times but the way you conceed goals can make you run mad, especially kick-off goals, it's just so unrealistic. And it's a Miracle to win the ball in midfield because in ultimate difficulty, every team plays like prime barcelona, they all know how to dribble and pass the ball, so once your opponent gets a goal kick, they all build from the back and you can hardly win the ball in midfield till they progress to your defence, they will use the flanks, dribble the shit out of your fullbacks then cut back to a player in the middle for a first time shot which goes in 80% of the time, they don't cross, they will dribble all your players even if it is an unskilled winger in real life. It's just like the computer Ai in ultimate difficulty are fifa street players.
I score lots of goals, I can score more than 100 league goals in a season alone but can't keep up to 5 clean sheets in a whole season. And yes once you're like 2 goals up, from the 75th minute, computer becomes a pressing machine and all your passes starts going wrong mysteriously. It is a herculian task to beat their press at that point. So once I'm winning like 3-1, and that pressing from computer begins, I just jump to result. Let us all defraud ourselves. Fifa needs to fix this in their next game.

How can EA spend millions in this game every year but still make a garbage broken system that is ages behind PES, it boggles my mind. Konami in the dirt with their current decisions for their football game yet they still somehow manage to make a better and more realistic in-game experience than this massive behemoth of football games. Annoys me so much, what do they even do every year? FIFA 23 is just as bad when it comes to defending.

the problem with this entire video is you're demonstrating how to defend against human opponents. There's nothing special about that, it's piss easy to defend against humans. Try some of your aggressive charging in against the AI and you'll get your arse handed to you

I played on keyboard for 1½ years... It's very difficult to play on keyboard and mouse in comparison to a controller..buy a controller mate..they are cheap.
Too basic for me im on division 1. I search to figure how to defend against skill moves spam and the thing when they use their back going up down up and beat ur deffender, and how some people press so high that u dont have any options.

I mostly play seasons and in between div 1 -3 ( mostly div 2 ). But finally I won 2 Div 1 titles with FiFA 22. So, I guess I am not that of a bad player. My biggest and only problem is defending. Sometimes I feel my players tackle doesn’t work at all. I understand loosing to better stats player than me but not below me. I feel this FiFa or any Fifa is rigged !

My midfielders don't track back. My defenders are all alone against the attackers and they don't mark closely.

Sorry buddy but I've still not got a clue! You haven't even told me a button to press! My opposition just runs through my Ronaldo and takes the ball away from behind. It's like AI just takes the ball from me regardless. I play a pass up my line and their defender predicts it and runs past my 99 pace winger taking the ball. What button is he using to press this hard? He doesn't even seem to tackle. Just runs straight through even when I'm not sprinting and I should have reasonable control of the ball
