It doesn’t matter if the odds are against them or if the board recommends that idea. If there is another option that does have the possibility of working what so ever they have the legal right to be aware of ALL options. And the mother clearly stated “NO, there must be another way”
This choice is incredibly difficult for doctors, having to choose to have a high change at saving one and killing another or maybe saving both. I don't agree with the fact that they didn't inform the parents with both options but I can understand why they didn't. The fact is they had to save one of those children and if it was possible both could die in the operation even from the get-go, they would still put as much effort into whichever child had the highest probability of survival. not to say the other would receive support if possible but still. agree or disagree with this but I think they made the best choice, legally speaking maybe not so much ethically.
thing is if you give the parents a choice like that at such an emotional time they may fail to understand that the odds of the saving both option succeeding are almost zero and may choose it out of desperation rather than considering the fact that one baby has a good chance of surviving
I really wish this show stopped portraying doctors who follow the most logical outcome as the bad guys. It just makes it seem like taking a huge risk is the right thing to do when in a lot of cases it simply isn’t.
well, doctors are legally obligated to provide patients or caretakers with all options. what the other doctors were doing could get them in trouble with the ethics board
This is sad for me because I'm a twin and my sister had to have surgery on her neck because she had a type of scoliosis, so her neck was slanted but they did the surgery and shaved a bit of the bone around her neck so it would be straight now she is healthy and happy xx
At least you can save one. That doctor, saw other clips from this episode, I don't think she really cared about the babies but just getting the separation surgery done.
This is wrong on so many levels! No doctor worth his or her salt makes a major decision without consulting the nurses, and the family, and the patients if they're capable of making decisions. The babies weren't of course, but you get the idea. The parents had the right to all the information they needed to make an informed choice. I'm sure deliberately withholding that information is both illegal and unethical.
I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant: I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow. I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism. I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug. I will not be ashamed to say "I know not," nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery. I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God. I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick. I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure. I will protect the environment which sustains us, in the knowledge that the continuing health of ourselves and our societies is dependent on a healthy planet. I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm. If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help. The Hippocratic Oath

@@MsJubjubbird I am pretty sure is thier human right to know. That they will misunderstand is part of the odds the Drs need to deal with.
@@jaimeduncan6167 Also parents have the legal right to know.

@@Super_Tristan1005 something like that is not really an option though. It's going rogue. there's no procedure to follow
They should of informed the parents
They are the bad guys if they don't give their patients (in this case the parents) the informed choice.
I really wish Connor spoke up

Congrats for your sister.
DrawingWiff Creams glad to hear she doing ok....👍
I'm glad she's doing alright!
Glad she’s okay.
Are they allowed to withhold information like that?
Legally, no. Doctors are required to lay out every option and let the patient or caretaker make that choice

Y r the short ones aways the best
I thought it was illegal not to give all the options?
It is but this is just a show
It’s suppose to be.
lol that was allll kinds of unethical borderline illegal
yes you suld whatch it ❤❤❤👍👍

When will doctors learn that you can't save everyone. Save who you can, but don't jeopardize another life just on a gamble.
