    Hi Roger, i know this is a old video, but it became very handy today.
    My Aneng AN8009 was acting weird (cutting off, not stabilizing in resistance mode etc...) when i barely pressed on the rotating knob.
    So i took my meter apart and cleaned the 6 cupper "bridge" contacts from the knob and removed the excessive grease, but 3 contacts from the rotating knob came loose.
    So i put them back symmetrical and closed the meter, but the meter was still acting weird and in the NCV setting no image on the screen, and the batteries became very hot, a sign of a short circuit.
    Then i took a look at your video because i knew that you did a teardown of this type and saw at 34:04 that these 6 contact bridges are not placed symmetrical, the 3 bridges on the yellow button side, are placed more to the center of the knob then the 3 bridges on the blue button side.
    I had placed my contacts symmetrical and that was the issue of the short circuit.
    Now the meter is back working fine, and i don't see any damage from the short circuit. So a big thank you for this video :-) Grtz

    Big thumbs up for this video! Very comprehensive! Nobody else tests multimeters like Kainka Labs!
    Really love the fact that you switched the Aneng's crappy probes to show that the continuity is fine with decent probes. I don't know why they don't gold plate all the probes. The gold plating can be very thin and it will still be a huge improvement...
    Self tapping screws are not that bad if you never have to remove them! ;-)
    And for those in the US, it's $24.67 on ebay with free shipping.

    At 28:49 in video, is that solder leading from the small fuse to the shunt (bottom left corner of PCB) ? Anyone know why they did this ?

    • @KainkaLabs
      @KainkaLabs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. This is usually done for high-current carrying PCB traces to get a lower resistance.
      Dave Jones made a video about that practice and has measured the effect.

    I dont have the problem with the original probes, not even after 2 years.
    Maybe cleaning them with a strong soap helps (or vinigar, lightly acidic to remove light passivation).
    The only thing I dont like in this meter is the accuracy of the 10A range, it is horrible at +5A, maybe the shunt heats up and is of poor quality. (It can read 1A off)
    And the tiny fuses, hard to replace...
    The supplied thermocouple is not so good for electronics, it's more suitable for fluids.
    Luckily the small dot ones are very cheap on aliexpress.
    I have it in a small drawer of my toolbox/case for my RC hobby so small size was important and the additional small test lead kit was nice, you never know what you'll need when your RC model breaks down.
    Nice and elaborate review btw 👍

    Hi, is there any change/way to modify this AN8009 ROM to be able to generate Square Wave Output, as on the AN8008?

    Press the yellow select button on uni-t 120c to activate the buzzer for continuity. Hope this helps

    • @KainkaLabs
      @KainkaLabs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The buzzer works in the UNI-T120 but it is barely audible. The Uni-T is just another pocket multimeter that has many things left to desire (as with all Uni-T devices I ever got my hand on). I have made a separate video about this PoS.

    excellente review, I only like to know if the beep sound when you check diode when is a short.?

    • @KainkaLabs
      @KainkaLabs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beeps are only used for continuity testing. In diode-testing you get the forward voltage displayed. And because this voltage varies depending on the type of diode there can´t be a Go/No-Go beep.

  • @Steadyeddie100
    @Steadyeddie100 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi will this beep in diode mode thanks

    • @KainkaLabs
      @KainkaLabs  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I have never encountered a multimeter that beeps in diode mode. Reason is simple: A shorted diode would also cause a beep. The purpose of the diode-mode is to show the forward-voltage of the diode if correctly oriented and "OL" (Overload) for reverse inserted diodes.

    Hi! What about NCV test? Can it find AC-wire inside a wall? As I seen there is no antenna for that on pcb

    • @KainkaLabs
      @KainkaLabs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is a multimeter for _*electronics*_, not for _*eletricians*_. In my view NCV-testing is just a useless gimmick on a multimeter intended for work at the electronics lab bench. It´s just hip for sime time now, that multimeters started to add this feature. When I am searching for wires or water-tubing inside a wall I am using a specialed device for that task and would never use a multimeter with that untrustworthy feature for that task.

    Have you tested the accuracy of the thermometer?

    • @KainkaLabs
      @KainkaLabs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. The thermocouple thermometer is just a bonus in every multimeter. Sufficient for temperature measurement in live circuits (semiconductors, resistors etc.) is in my view would be even an (in-)accuracy of 5°C. Concerning the quality of the rest of the multimeter it´s probably accurate to 1°C.

    man, why did they skip 2 ranges on mA scale , the 10mA [9.999] and the 100mA [99.99] and they went to 1amp [ 999.9mA]. You loos a lot of resolution, instead of displaying 2.555mA it will display 002.5mA. That is extremely stupid...What is the logic behind that....They did this both on AC and DC scales. Same thing on AN8008 and An8009.

    Aneng 8009 is a pretty good multimeter though some electric experts point out its weakness. But it is affordable for everyone.
