      retire from your regular job simon, and become a full time runner/youtuber. thanks for putting this video togedder. its inspiring. people were pulling for you in the stream chat. i'm surprised you finished since you seemed in a bad shape on 1st day. you're an athletic beast, aside from being obsessed with ultras.

      @@ricodelavega4511 As much as I'd dream of that in theory - I do enjoy my work and find purpose in it. We're helping create new medicine - particularly in rare and pediatric disease. Patient need this. I know someone could take over my job, but I think I'm good at it, and help make a difference. for a better world. Sounds cliché, but I do believe in it.

      @runningwithsimon  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My only regret is not having a crew. I think if I do it again, I'll push to get one. It'd be much more fun to do that as a team!!! And if I don't do it again, I'll try to pace or crew someone!

    Simon, I saw you at Dead Horse when I was making burritos in the tent! Wish I would have came and said 'hi'. You seemed to be having a little bit of a hard time but your attitude was so positive. I heard you tell people how grateful you were to be here. That was really what was so impressive to me about meeting all of the runners that day. A lot of folks were hurting but so positive and enjoying their journey. I don't know that I'll ever sign up for a formal race but it was a good perspective and mindset to gain as I tackle my own goals. Stoked to see your movie of the race!

      Thanks for volunteering :)
      Yeah for sure next time come and say hi. Unless I'm actively trying to sleep, I'm always happy to chat! Yeah I struggle the last couple miles getting into Dead Horse - just sleep walking and missing a few turns (luckily there was another 250 + pacer which helped with navigation). I just couldn't focus enough to follow the trail marker, so if there was any turn, I'd just walk by, and then a couple of time the other pacer would yell out "hey over here!!!". But I think I was much better quickly once at Aid station...or maybe I just don't remember!

    Simon, the king of understatement! 😂 "I started getting some blisters. " Shows a beach ball of a foot. "I started having elbow problems. " Shows a twin growing off his elbow.
    I can't wait for the full video. I have my first 100k next weekend the 25th, and seeing how much you went through, for 4x the mileage, will help so much! (If thats enough time to produce one of your awesome videos! )

    • @runningwithsimon
      @runningwithsimon  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Denial helps to cope with those things!!!
      ...those blisters however! If you look carefully, you can notice that, yes, there is indeed a toe behind the blister!
      What's your 100k? Aren't you Northeast? Is it clear of snow already?!

    Great job as thats a lot of issuss to work around and solo!
    I come from Crossfit background, so the normal prescription is called RX and anything less is Scaled. To me, solo is the RX and everything that is extra is Scaling it (which is fine) - crew, pacers, poles, etc.

    • @runningwithsimon
      @runningwithsimon  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah for those distance the norm is very much to have a crew, and it's clear why. Doable without, but clearly more complicated logistically. I could have planned better - in fact I think I have better tools to plan if I ever do it solo again.

      @@runningwithsimon I was curious as i followed this race more than i had in the past and saw that Glaze had done it solo for like 4 or 5 times now, so I'm sure he has some good info on issues he's ran into. I usually fall back to solo just because it's hard for me to even ask people to commit that much effort/time for a pretty not so fun task ha.
