I sold my 2008 EX35 to my neighbor 4 month ago. Bought a 2013 bmw X1 with the 3 L turbo. I find the BMW to be faster and therefore more fun, but altogether more annoying. Stupid info controls, and bells, no dipstick to check oil levels only electronically, you have to pull the door handle twice to get out- I could go on. I also am getting 17.4 mpg according to the car. More than any other complaint though is that I can't keep it out of the shop. The EX35 never gave me a problem over 4 years. I am putting at least $500 a month in this Beemer and I am going to sell it. Seriously looking at the QX50 for as others have said it is one of the last 6 cylinder vehicles around unless you have Macan or Mercedes amp money. I am just not a 4 cyl turbo guy. No matter how many hp they get out of them you still have to wring their little necks to go fast and they sound bad. Yes the QX50 is dated but I think it is still attractive especially with the Chestnut color interior but more than anything it shouldn't cost me so much to maintain. Only way I will be able to buy essentially the same car is to change colors and get a model with all the tech possible.
We have a 2008 Infiniti EX35 with 100k miles on it. It is really a G35 hatchback, rather than an SUV. It has been a fabulous car - incredibly reliable and still drives great. The interior room has been the biggest challenge, not really for families, but works great for childless couples. If you want a scaled down version - check out the Mazda 3 hatchback - it's like 7/8ths replica.
We absolutely love ours. My only real complaint is the lack of automatic open and close hatch. I mean come on,...its a 2017 and you literally have to get out to open it. No release or anything from either the cabin or the key fob. Other than that,...its perfect transportation for my family. Just enough tech without over doing it. I personally love the styling,....and just one push of the go pedal and I forget all about that horrible hatch. Excellent review btw,...couldn't have been more accurate if I did it myself.
I have it as a rental car in my stay at Florida. All I can say is that it fuckin hauls down the road. The car is a rocket and is fun to drive. I think it would look better with LED headlights. I do like the LED fog lights and drl lights
Your execution is absolute perfection. What a great training video for anyone who's intention is to provide information..........about anything. I have never been so impressed with your level of preparation and delivery in an informative and persuasive presentation. Thank you!
IIn a nutshell and certainly not a bad thing... It's a slightly slower, but slightly nicer riding version of the Q and G series sedan with slight advantages among other things. I think it's an awesome crossover. Infiniti really dropped the ball and went backwards switching from standard RWD to standard FWD, along with ditching the much nicer 7 speed auto for a much improved CVT, but still a CVT. The new QX is freaking gorgeous though. Put the 3.7 or 3.0T with RWD 7A combo in the 2019+ and it would be my all time favorite crossover. SUV or any other type of truck. Just upgrade the damn primitive software nav and apps and it would be perfect for me.
My 2017 QX AWD is getting 19mpg compared to my Grand Chrerokee V8 with 12-14mpg. Mileage from the QX is stellar. The Qx sits low and is fun to drive in the twisties. Turning off the traction control and the HP, Torque is like Jekyll and Hyde, immediate throttle response and pulls till redline. The motor rips the exhaust note sporty. Even driving sedately it garners disapproving looks from pedestrians. Handling is balanced. In AWD with traction control off it flicks around corners and the brakes deliver fade-free short controlled stops. Not bad for an SUV. I have the XM traffic and weather and it delivers accurate weather maps with accidents and alternate routes. I have a tiny garage in the city of SF so this is my sports vehicle. I have 20,200 miles on it and maintenance is nothing. It's a keeper. I don't want another turbo motor. In my younger days, I had an Outback XT that only lasted 120,000 miles. Turbos melt anything inside the engine compartment.
19mph is terrible against any other vehicle that carries 5 people unless you really need the AWD and space inside. My GF's Infiniti sedan gets 28 on average and more trunk space. My Civic is slower but gets 35mpg average.
@@rickjohansson4257 word up, I changed the o2 sensors on the Jeep it's an 01 with under 100k. Runs like new. The Infiniti is underrated. One would think that 4-way power lumbar adjustment is the most important feature in a car. Frankly I think Alex is giving it way too much emphasis. A nice to have feature, sure. Essential? No.
Also front wheel drive! I’m in the market for an suv and totally forgot about the infinity line up. But I’m sure If Im going to buy one it’ll be this model.
As a previous Infiniti G25 owner, I had been looking to get a low miles G37/Q40. But it is so hard to find find one that is not abused. So I found and bought a 2017 QX50 Rwd with 33k miles(one owner, GA car). This is fully loaded with all the features. It handles like G. 3.7L engine. I maintain our cars myself and since I drive only 4-5k miles a year, I should be set for a looooong time. I am looking for any reason to drive this car and it puts a smile on my face every time. Only complaint I have is that, seating on drive seat is a bit higher at lowest setting vs my older G25 but I am Getting used to it. So far, I have been very happy that I didn't not buy a new car with extra tech junk and turbo.
Reasons I went for this car: 3.7L v6, 7 speed transmission, rwd, no electronic parking brake, no engine shutoff, hatchback, handling, most importantly Made in Japan.
This outdated ugly SUV has: 325hp VQ37 engine that can rev over 7k, Engine mount behind front axle to create near 50/50 weight distribution, "Rev-Match" 7 speed transmission, "Forge Aluminum" Double Wishbone front suspension and "Forge Aluminum" Independent Multi-link rear suspension (you can only find this setup on Porsche Macan and Audi SQ5 and it ain't cheap), Hydraulic power steering for best road feedback (instead of modern numb electric power steering), Made in Tochigi, Japan (one of the best assembly factory in the world), and etc..... This is pretty much 90% of Porsche Macan S' performance with 60% of its price. Name one 2017 compact SUV with all these features mention above that is under 45k OTD.
Good work Alex. Do you know if the next model year of this car (QX50) will still have the current drivetrain> I heard it will have a CVT? If so..it will kill this car in it's targeted market!
One very nice car! I love the V6 and nice stereo system. Most of these cars with the 4 banger engines can barely get out of their own way. This one has a lot of power and drives great! Much better than my MKC though it does not have a lot of the features of the Lincoln. This may be my next car. Knocking a grade off because of the handling on a gravel trail isn't right though. Seldom do I ever drive on anything like that. Trunk comfort? Because it does not have a standard cover? Really?? Who sleeps in there? Fantastic review!
I drove one recently and was very impressed. Having driven a 2006 FWD V6 Rav 4 the past 10 years this vehicle to me was very modern. I love the performance, the interior, the Bose sound system, the blue tooth connectivity, the camera's and all that cool safety stuff that I have never had. The price was pretty good at about 43K for the fully loaded model. I was all set to buy an RDX until I took this out for a spin. Now the decision is to buy this now or wait for the 2018?
I would say if you like the performance of the current QX50... buy the current one. The new QX50 is going in a completely different direction and will be more like the competition. It will be FWD/AWD with less power and most likely will have a CVT, although it will feature a new variable compression engine that should be really good on gas. And you can count on it being more expensive because of all of the new tech.
Once more, a no-nonsense, rapid-fire, top-to-bottom segment on a vehicle that is on my Honey-let's-check-this-out list. I was all in for the QX50 until we got to cabin noise and fuel economy. My must-have list in the choosing of a new vehicle for the two of us is quite brief. I only must have a vehicle that is quiet. QUIET. Also, one of my pet bugaboos about llife in the Sonoran Desert is the constant glare. It makes the instrument gauges all but iinvisible. I'd really like an odometer/tach/gauge cluster that is illuminated in a manner that makes it possible for me to see how fast I'm going. Not much to ask, I know.
I've been compact SUV shopping.....almost ready to buy a MB GLC but, not really happy with option packaging by MB forcing me to buy items I don't want and wary of MB cost of ownership. I'm going to drive a QX50 now for the $$ probably the segments Best Buy. I'm not really too impressed with the current technologies in new autos there seems to be a concentration of engineering driver aids for distracted driving which I don't do....I don't need "lane departure" or other stuff like that.
I will be contrary on the looks front. Except for the compromised sloping hatch, I think it looks much better than any of its competitors. It's got a bit of Porsche Panamera going. Audi Q5 is the only one that comes close.
Great video. I’m looking at purchasing a used premium plus QX50 and was wondering if the newer model still needs a key in the ignition in order to start the engine. If so the technology is so undated.
Will Keen - it came with several packages; base, premium, premium plus, deluxe touring and technology. Mine has the premium and will be purchasing it in two weeks.
@@Luckybadger10 to be honest I just sold it after owning it for 6 months. The ride was too stiff, the cabin picked up lots of road noise and the fuel economy was terrible (15-17 mpg). Ended up trading in for a Lexus NX300.
great work as always...do you think that the MPG is a heavy price to pay or worth the dynamics of the engine and package, as one who loves spirited driving? The other vehicle I have been considering for space and value is the Forester XT touring...very diff, yet...
Forrester XT has the better AWD System because it has the Fulltime Symmetrical AWD, which is a 50/50 Torque Vectoring for front and rear. The Infiniti is a RWD Bias with a 40/60 front and rear split when it detects slippage. Also, the QX50 has a snow button which helps in slippery conditions at low speeds. If you're concerned about safety in snow and icy conditions, the Forrester is better. However, the QX50 is more than adequate in the snow, especially if you put dedicated winter/snow tires. Overall, the QX50 is a better car. It's more luxurious, much faster and definitely more reliable. The 3.7L Engine and 7 Speed Transmission are very reliable. Subaru's reliability had dropped recently. The Forester's Advantage is a better AWD System and slightly better Fuel Economy.
I prefer the beastly v6 roar over a turbo i4 whistle i just had an evoque and it unsurprisingly broke down so i got an Infiniti and its much more enjoyable
Thank you for posting. I wish all my college professors presented like you, I wouldve finished college in much less time than the 7 years it took me to earn a BA. No regrets though. It was fun.
This was such a excellent car. The new ones are total crap; fwd instead of rwd, turbo 4 instead of large NA V6 and a stupid CVT. Infiniti is really going downhill.
Drive this car and you get really fun it’s fast and steering control is best just I buy 2018 this design , It’s good , I enjoy by this car more than Toyota Land Cruiser I use to drive for long time but now I change to Infiniti family from toyota and Nokia is same no new
Really wish Infiniti would update this and their qx30 to look more like their new qx80 and other models. If I say this on the road I would honestly think that it was 5-6 years old.
It's low priced because it's very dated. I'm not sure if that necessarily makes it a good value. The design is blah, bit so is a lot in this class. How's reliability and resale value? I'm guessing not great.
Reliability has been good (Nissan's non-CVT models usually do well) and oddly enough resale value isn't bad for the luxury segment. Resale value on the QX50 specifically should actually be good since the model has for some reason been increasing in sales by large percentages over the last 2 years. However, your're right in thinking that part of the discount is because it's getting old.
This car is expected to be completely refresh for 2018 and utilize the new VC-T engine. You'll be able to get one of these way below MSRP, if you wanted.

I love my 2017 QX50 bought it new in 2016 has 64,000 miles she hauls butt. Before it had a 09 FX50 got me 289,000 worry free miles.
Excellent car to drive! Very enjoyable!
YOU RAMBLE
EXCELLENT! Thank you.
I'm not really too impressed with the current technologies in new autos there seems to be a concentration of engineering driver aids for distracted driving which I don't do....I don't need "lane departure" or other stuff like that.
love your reviews!
Why is the Mercedes GLC not in the comparison. How does it compare to the Q5 and X3.
Simply awesome review!
I like how the lights look like Porsche 996 the whole egg drop look is kinda nice
I will be contrary on the looks front. Except for the compromised sloping hatch, I think it looks much better than any of its competitors. It's got a bit of Porsche Panamera going. Audi Q5 is the only one that comes close.
If people test drive these suv,s they will buy it 100% of the time
Thank you Alex!
@ 11:05, do you mean X3?
Its funny how we call nearly everything a compact. When back in the day compact meant, you die when the wind blows.
For real, this car is hugeand has 20" wheels. It in no way feels like a compact Datsun.
I like the headlight, fyi
Alex, do you expect a redesign for the QX50 for 2018?
Great video. I’m looking at purchasing a used premium plus QX50 and was wondering if the newer model still needs a key in the ignition in order to start the engine. If so the technology is so undated.
Noah Boy I'm interested in this type of vehicle as well. Did you buy yet or still looking?
Will Keen - it came with several packages; base, premium, premium plus, deluxe touring and technology. Mine has the premium and will be purchasing it in two weeks.
@@noahboy6349 How do you like it so far? Im thinking about purchasing one very soon
@@Luckybadger10 to be honest I just sold it after owning it for 6 months. The ride was too stiff, the cabin picked up lots of road noise and the fuel economy was terrible (15-17 mpg). Ended up trading in for a Lexus NX300.
@@noahboy6349 crank up that Bose bro
I love the review, but I cannot stand how much you hug the right line when driving
great work as always...do you think that the MPG is a heavy price to pay or worth the dynamics of the engine and package, as one who loves spirited driving? The other vehicle I have been considering for space and value is the Forester XT touring...very diff, yet...
I don't think 20 MPG and 25 MPG is a heavy price difference. Maybe just one less Starbucks coffee per a week.
Any review on Q30?
I prefer the beastly v6 roar over a turbo i4 whistle i just had an evoque and it unsurprisingly broke down so i got an Infiniti and its much more enjoyable
Thank you for posting. I wish all my college professors presented like you, I wouldve finished college in much less time than the 7 years it took me to earn a BA. No regrets though. It was fun.
This was such a excellent car. The new ones are total crap; fwd instead of rwd, turbo 4 instead of large NA V6 and a stupid CVT. Infiniti is really going downhill.
Emissions standards are to blame
No doubt nissan put their best in QX50... top of the line v6 made into a tested and tried 7speed automatic... driving this is like sex.
Awesome car to drive, no storage and dated tech
Hmm the audio seems to be a step out of sync here, anyone else seeing that or just me?
This guy said the QX50 looks like a x4….. the EX35 ( the car that this one is designed off of) was made before any X4 renderings came available…
where is the aux I don't see it on mine I only see the usb
Why so many dislikes already? Dislikes for the car I assume?
I will press DISLIKE button until he change intro music.
Can you do a review on the QX70 next please!
like the middle projector beam(yellow bulb) in the middle...must look ok at night, tho kind of dated and average seeming in 2017
Drive this car and you get really fun it’s fast and steering control is best just I buy 2018 this design ,
It’s good , I enjoy by this car more than Toyota Land Cruiser I use to drive for long time but now I change to Infiniti family from toyota and Nokia is same no new
I think the design looks one generation back.
My old 09 G37 had the same interior, car is so outdated for being a 2017 lol
Mercedes got away with there outdated interiors also.
Really wish Infiniti would update this and their qx30 to look more like their new qx80 and other models. If I say this on the road I would honestly think that it was 5-6 years old.
Donna Summer Bad Girls in your iPhone eh? Interesting taste in music :)
anyone cross shopping qx70 and this? (last 2 years of ex37)?
It's low priced because it's very dated. I'm not sure if that necessarily makes it a good value.
The design is blah, bit so is a lot in this class.
How's reliability and resale value?
I'm guessing not great.
Reliability has been good (Nissan's non-CVT models usually do well) and oddly enough resale value isn't bad for the luxury segment. Resale value on the QX50 specifically should actually be good since the model has for some reason been increasing in sales by large percentages over the last 2 years. However, your're right in thinking that part of the discount is because it's getting old.
Resale is higher than it should be because the compact CUV market is red hot.
Mark Thomas
I think it's more because the new price is so low.
it drives like a sports car...cant beat it
john tiedd
I guess you never drove a Cayenne, Macan, or SQ5 then. ;)
Great review as always. Stale car IMO. Looks way to similar to the original ex. very little innovation from infinitis design team overall
That interior needs to be updated. Maybe a total revamp.

This is the perfect car for people who just woke up from a 15 year coma.
And the people who woke up from coma 15 years ago can still smoke most modern cars with this vehicle.
This car is expected to be completely refresh for 2018 and utilize the new VC-T engine. You'll be able to get one of these way below MSRP, if you wanted.
I really do not like the three crease dash, what were they thinking?
Infiniti have been neglecting QX50 and QX70. they desperate need of a redesign.
