    Thats not a short squeeze. You state its when the stock rises and the short has to pay more to buy it back again. A short squeeze is where there are too many short positions and not enough liquidity in the market. The the shorts basically compete with each other to buy back the stock from the limited sellers which forces the price up.

    • @maxmartin2763
      @maxmartin2763 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@jonosimpson3379 Agreed. The clearing house has to take the opposite position by LAW. The Robinhood trade positions were so one-sided that it created a $3 billion liability for the clearing house and Robinhood. Robinhood negotiated the liability down to $700 million (their market CAP) and agreed to freeze trading. Sh*t happens when your platform doesn't have the assets to back up it's customer trading positions and the customers would declare bankruptcy rather than settle a heavy trading loss. I must have missed something. So "what's coming for Wall Street?" All I got regarding this in the end was that one of the commentators said there is possibility of disruption that is coming to Wall Street. I was expecting a little more depth to what was being conveyed by the title. Perhaps a more apt title would be "What we finally know about that which everybody already knows".

    Please do not shoot me... I am a casual observer of financial markets and worked as a commodities trader during my 20s.
    The one thing that confuses me most, is that all sides love money. The measure of hedge fund success is money, and the measure of your success against hedge funds is also money.
    I have nothing against liking/loving money, but stand just far enough away from an argument and it's hard to tell who is right from who is wrong...

    Short squeeze is not simply the trade going against you. It’s that other people are squeezed, they cover by buying, which pushes the price up further. A vicious circle.

    Failed to address the real reason Robinhood froze GameStop trading. The big Wall Street guys had nothing to do with it. The Robinhood DTCC clearing house demanded $3 billion in collateral to honor the existing trades on Robinhood. Robinhood negotiated it down to $700 million and agreed to freeze trades to avoid the $3 billion collateral payment.

      One of the few who understand the position they were in.
      Also they couldn't continue to write calls cause they couldnt make them covered - underlying was sky-rocketing way too fast. Who in their right mind would open up principal risk positions on calls without covering? It's a no brainier to then either charge insane option premiums, or stop writing calls

    Many kids are trading like gamblers right now. Yes, they will eventually learn, but the lesson may be too painful for many of them gambled away their college tuition money, or even took out an expensive loan to invest in risky stocks. This is just a repeat version of the 2008 crisis, and eventually, they will blame it on the stock platform for not setting the bar high enough to protect investors with no trading experience.,
