    Thats not a short squeeze. You state its when the stock rises and the short has to pay more to buy it back again. A short squeeze is where there are too many short positions and not enough liquidity in the market. The the shorts basically compete with each other to buy back the stock from the limited sellers which forces the price up.

    • @maxmartin2763
      @maxmartin2763 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@jonosimpson3379 Agreed. The clearing house has to take the opposite position by LAW. The Robinhood trade positions were so one-sided that it created a $3 billion liability for the clearing house and Robinhood. Robinhood negotiated the liability down to $700 million (their market CAP) and agreed to freeze trading. Sh*t happens when your platform doesn't have the assets to back up it's customer trading positions and the customers would declare bankruptcy rather than settle a heavy trading loss. Please do not shoot me... I am a casual observer of financial markets and worked as a commodities trader during my 20s.
    The one thing that confuses me most, is that all sides love money. The measure of hedge fund success is money, and the measure of your success against hedge funds is also money.
    I have nothing against liking/loving money, but stand just far enough away from an argument and it's hard to tell who is right from who is wrong...

      You don't understand how it works. Stop and think and research before you go with your gut. Easy options trading alone changed the market forever, and that is just one aspect. If you don't think retail can move the markets, you don't know how the markets work.

    When you start your new and own business don’t expect to make money that’s really noticeable for the first 5 years and if you are smart enough with what you want to need you’ll have a business after that 5 year beginning.
    If youjust have the things you need to keep growing than your want to have all new toys and show off than you may as well just keep working for companies instead of having your own.

    Bloomberg, please find somebody who can explain to you the business model of Robinhood or simply disclose how much you got paid for this piece of advertisement.
    People using Robinhood to buy/sell stocks: YOU ARE THE PRODUCT.
    The real customers of Robinhood are the investment funds, the guys behind the scene making money out of you.
    You are the product, and Robinhood does not like that you "abused" its product to actually turn a profit. Making money from the stock market was always a privilege for rich people and i am sure that Robinhood will modify the app to a point where it can ensure that the market will work again in the way it is designed.

    I must have missed something. So "what's coming for Wall Street?" All I got regarding this in the end was that one of the commentators said there is possibility of disruption that is coming to Wall Street. I was expecting a little more depth to what was being conveyed by the title. Perhaps a more apt title would be "What we finally know about that which everybody already knows".

      I find it hilarious how people think the act of literally making money in the stock market is... somehow anti-Wall Street?
      You all are literally participating in the market process exactly how Capitalism has intended lol, do you think people are closing multi-million dollar trades with the intent to "stick it to the man" or the intent to end up in a penthouse with a suit themselves? If anything, this leads to the democratization of finance and thus to everyone having the chance to become million-dollar hotshot traders; this will make Wall Street an almost global phenomenon, and it's culture will become even more pervasive, I don't see how that's the "end of wallstreet". If anything this is Wall Street 2.0
      People that lie to try & convince themselves that they are making hundreds of thousands in the market "for the little guy" are hilarious, considering you're doing the exact same thing the traders have always done, and with the exact same desire for wealth; and good on you for doing it.

No one helped us. I lost around 400€.

Yes, they will eventually learn, but the lesson may be too painful for many of them gambled away their college tuition money, or even took out an expensive loan to invest in risky stocks. This is just a repeat version of the 2008 crisis, and eventually, they will blame it on the stock platform for not setting the bar high enough to protect investors with no trading experience.,
