I can hardly put my appreciation for this channel into words. I don't have an in-person writing community or even a writing buddy to encourage me in my writing journey. I found this channel two weeks ago, have been binging their videos ever since and it feels like these girls are personally cheering me on. They really feel genuine. I'm glad they're here.

I have a playlist organized in chronological order that basically tells my story, it actually helps me to do the plotting!

I like to use the lyrical music to prep for writing and getting in the mood, then switch over to instrumental as I write

While I was resting from my project, I just noticed the internal conflict of my main character that I had difficulty to define matched a bit of the lyrics of a musical.

I never realized you could add folders to spotify (face palm). There's no telling how helpful that little detail is for me! Thank you!

I've made a lot of character playlists in the past. This year, I made 45 playlists for specific moods that a character can have in a scene / towards another character. There were many tracks with lyrics, which were distracting, though. After watching this podcast, I replaced each of those tracks with their instrumental version / piano cover. That was a game changer. I feel like I can be fully in the zone & let the words flow; seriously, it's worth the effort. ❤️

The soundtrack for Rushmore with original score by Mark Mothersbaugh is something I come back to again and again. It has highs and lows, just so much emotion and energy for writing. Also I'm going to have to hear more Thomas Newman because whenever I play the first track of the Nemo score it brings tears to my eyes - what the heck.

    How "music nerdy" are you?

I have so many writing playlists 😅 It definitely helps me in writing. I also love it when other authors let me listen to the playlist they listened to when they wrote what they came out with. Thanks for this video!!!

I've been writing a basic fantasy novel, and the music that has surprisingly helped me is James Bond instrumental songs. Accuradio has a "channel 007" channel and it has greatly helped me! The songs can be relaxing, or light, or empowering feeling, and I would think they'd work for whatever genre you're doing.

I've found over the years that if I'm *drawing*, I can listen to a far broader range of music -- lyric and instrumental -- than I can when I write. If I listen to music at all, it's purely instrumental, and usually something that might fall into the category of soundtracks or meditation music: instrumental, with a tune I'm not familiar enough with to become distracted by it. I'm also a singer / musician and it's hard for me not to want to sing along as I go. When I write, I have what I call my "Atmospherics" playlist, that is comprised mostly of wild ambient natural soundscapes: thunder storms, oceans, waterfalls, mountain snow storms, etc., and I'll chose one (or mix a couple) to really help set the soundscape of the scene in my head.

I loved hearing you guys geek out over movie composers! Nice to know other people listen to that stuff. Thomas Newman is my favorite movie composer 💕 I listen to him every time I write

My writing playlists depend on the mood I'm in... and they're all instrumental. Classical and jazz, mostly. Beethoven for drama, Vivaldi for adventure, etc. Chuck Mangione for adventurous, happy, excited; Miles Davis for heavy, urban vibes; Duke Ellington, Count Basie for period settings and an old-fashioned goodness feel; Hans Zimmer and other film scorers for whatever mood is there. If I'm looking for instrumental female vibe I listen to Enya and other "new age" musicians... Certain instrument-heavy pieces... strings, woodwind, brass, keyboards, and percussion... also work well and help me to seal off the world while writing...😉
