After 20 minutes of me talking to him he jumped down and walked back into the forest. I'll never forget that day as long as I live, Cougar was the most beautiful animal I had ever seen.

If you live in mountain lion territories, each community should have a Facebook page where a sighting in the neighborhood can be listed. It should be like an Amber alert. It could save the lives of a lot of mountain lions, people, and other animals too.
I agree,I had a state Trooper tell me I could have a whitetail deer once it hadd been hit and crippled by a car the Deer was still alive and he said he could not shoot it or let me shoot it because we would be breaking the law if we fired a gun within 100 yrds. of the highway ,so I told him I wasn't going to try and put a live Deer in the back of my truck ,so he asked how I planned to kill the Deer ,so I showed him .I came up behind the Deer,so it could not kick me and then I caught it by an ear .then I cut its throat with a razor sharp lock blade Buck knife .it made the cop winch a little ,but the Deer was not suffering any longer,and he gave me a check tag for it and I took it home and skinned it out and canned it up.I don't think he thought I could kill it that quickly .But if you have a good sharp knife and know where to cut ,you can quickly kill any critter .I had a friend yhay would remove Deer hit by cars from the road and he would crack them between the eyes with a Ball Peen hammer if they was sill alive.when he tried to load them it works well and they don't squirt blood everywheres that way .

She was most likely more afraid of you than you were of her, if you had just opened a window and made a lot of noise with some pots and pans, she probably would have run off. Otherwise, simply call nearest neighbors to warn them, & let peaceful wild visitor return to its home. I would love the privilege of seeing something so majestic, myself. Nothing. Then I waved some tent poles and jumped up and down. He walked away, into the bushes, unimpressed.
Easy Going yep that is what happened with me and a mountain lion. He or she was splitting a deer herd and I sounded the air horn and he haunched down looked at my dog and I and ran off unimpressed.

Yep, that's a big tummy bulge. It looks like a younger female, perhaps it's first litter, because it seems like an odd place to feel safe and comfortable in. But like many young cougars, they are attracted to areas were small abundant game is present. The smell of food and garbage in a suburban area is very enticing for a hungry soon to be mother, not to mention animals like racoon, birds, possums, squirrels, domestic pets, and stray pets, make a good meal. As the cougar gets heavier, it will be more difficult to chase and kill something like a deer, but she must eat to have healthy cubs. Generally, this kind of strategy will not bode well for the cougar, and if she attempts to raise cubs in suburban areas, they will be found by humans, and probably removed while the mother is elsewhere. With all the action, and the new mothers instincts over riding her normal disposition, she probably won't make the same mistake with a new litter. If it's a small litter, her instincts may guide her to remove herself and the cubs to a more suitable area, away from man. Let's hope so...

How would you feel if someone set fire to your land or took your home away. All their land is being taken away by wildfires or development. Good video. That Big Cat was chilling like a house cat on a shelf. Cats, in general, do not relax and daylight nap in a place that in new or unfamiliar/unsafe. Your porch is in it's home range and I'd wager it has been there multiple times before. Keep a closer eye on your house pets.

When a cat cat looks through glass even if it's clear it needs to look straight through the glass to focus on the other side otherwise the slightest glare at an angle doesn't allow the cat to see nearly as well. That was an excellent encounter you're very lucky dude.

We did have one about a block away living in a old green house but the police shot and killed him ... we mostly get males here in Iowa , they come for the deer 🦌! But sadly most die during deer season as we have no laws to protect them . But this is the first year we had black bears born in Iowa since like back in the 1850s! So some of our original wildlife back !

Judging by the cougar's reacting several times (lifting his head, pointing his ears forward), he DID hear humans and didn't do anything but chill... Not a good idea to allow it to get so relaxed in the proximity of humans for his own safety though... He should have man up and scared the shit out of this beautiful cat...
It amazes me how many comments are people shamming this guy for calling local law enforcement to solve the issue. Cougars *are* dangerous and predatory, and anyone with any common sense wildlife experience knows how unpredictable circumstances like this can be. This man made the right call by informing the local police (who MORE THAN LIKELY know how to handle a situation like this in the best possible way since you know they're LOCAL law enforcement and probably have had multiple similar cases before and know what to do). It's just basic reasoning in this kind of situation. Personally when I was little, I remember my parents took me to visit family in upstate New Hampshire. And specifically we had a case where there was a lone male black bear outside on our front porch. NO ONE went outside and we waited for a bit hoping the bear would just lose interest *however* if not it's considered standard to call local police who would scare the bear off. Guys....this isn't something that needs to be debated over. By the way if you just read the description, he confirms the cougar was NOT shot and was just scared off.

She was most likely more afraid of you than you were of her, if you had just opened a window and made a lot of noise with some pots and pans, she probably would have run off. I have never seen a cougar up close (outside of a zoo) and I would love to have that experience! Next time, don’t call the trigger happy cops!!!

Otherwise, simply call nearest neighbors to warn them, & let peaceful wild visitor return to its home. I would love the privilege of seeing something so majestic, myself. HAH! as loud as I could, and blasted that horn. Nothing. He just looked at me curious-like. I walked closer and gave another blast. Nothing. I walked up and stuck it in his ear and let it rip. Nothing. Then I waved some tent poles and jumped up and down. He walked away, into the bushes, unimpressed.
Easy Going yep that is what happened with me and a mountain lion. He or she was splitting a deer herd and I sounded the air horn and he haunched down looked at my dog and I and ran off unimpressed.

Yep, that's a big tummy bulge. It looks like a younger female, perhaps it's first litter, because it seems like an odd place to feel safe and comfortable in. But like many young cougars, they are attracted to areas were small abundant game is present. The smell of food and garbage in a suburban area is very enticing for a hungry soon to be mother, not to mention animals like racoon, birds, possums, squirrels, domestic pets, and stray pets, make a good meal. As the cougar gets heavier, it will be more difficult to chase and kill something like a deer, but she must eat to have healthy cubs. Generally, this kind of strategy will not bode well for the cougar, and if she attempts to raise cubs in suburban areas, they will be found by humans, and probably removed while the mother is elsewhere. With all the action, and the new mothers instincts over riding her normal disposition, she probably won't make the same mistake with a new litter. If it's a small litter, her instincts may guide her to remove herself and the cubs to a more suitable area, away from man.

How would you feel if someone set fire to your land or took your home away. All their land is being taken away by wildfires or development. When a cat cat looks through glass even if it's clear it needs to look straight through the glass to focus on the other side otherwise the slightest glare at an angle doesn't allow the cat to see nearly as well. That was an excellent encounter you're very lucky dude.

We did have one about a block away living in a old green house but the police shot and killed him ... we mostly get males here in Iowa , they come for the deer 🦌! But sadly most die during deer season as we have no laws to protect them . But this is the first year we had black bears born in Iowa since like back in the 1850s! So some of our original wildlife back !

It amazes me how many comments are people shamming this guy for calling local law enforcement to solve the issue.
Cougars *are* dangerous and predatory, and anyone with any common sense wildlife experience knows how unpredictable circumstances like this can be. This man made the right call by informing the local police (who MORE THAN LIKELY know how to handle a situation like this in the best possible way since you know they're LOCAL law enforcement and probably have had multiple similar cases before and know what to do).
It's just basic reasoning in this kind of situation.
Personally when I was little, I remember my parents took me to visit family in upstate New Hampshire. And specifically we had a case where there was a lone male black bear outside on our front porch. NO ONE went outside and we waited for a bit hoping the bear would just lose interest *however* if not it's considered standard to call local police who would scare the bear off.

Well, now I know I couldn't trust myself in a situation like that because knowing how I am with cats I would try to comfort her and pet her and then I would probably die. If the mountain lion liked me though then I could call myself the cat whisperer. I love cats and it would take a tremendous amount of restraint to not pet her.
