Meillassoux is the icon, face of modern continental philosophy. Good on him.

The ultimate quote, “anti-philosophers always give way for the priests,” is not an inevitable consequence of fideistic belief but an unfortunate one due to people wrongly believing priestlike figures have access to the meaning of things in and of themselves, whereas these people hold no more authority than their followers. Fideism is an epistemically humble position, yet that same humility allows it’s gullible followers to be exploited by sophists and power seekers.
Perhaps in the Christian tradition there will always be room for priests as an institution of truth is allowed for in the Church. This is not the case for Islam, which explicitly denies clergy and thus gives less way for priests.
Moreover, not all priests are bad, it’s the ones that hold claims to transcendent knowledge that are.

🎯 Key points for quick navigation:
01:00 *⚖️ Meillassoux's Materialistic Atheism and Messianic Hope*
    - Meillassoux is characterized as a materialistic atheist but introduces themes of rebirth and universal justice.
    - He argues that only through a world of rebirth can universal justice and resurrection, including a messianic hope for justice, be achieved.
03:17 *🌟 The Role of the Christ-like Mediator in Meillassoux's Philosophy*
    - Meillassoux envisions a Christ-like mediator who voluntarily brings about the rebirth and justice for the dead.
    - This mediator's action is seen as pivotal in initiating a process of bodily resurrection and achieving eschatological justice.
07:12 *🕊️ Critique of Atheism and Advocacy for Eschatological Hope*
    - Meillassoux critiques classical atheism for its alleged nihilism and argues that eschatological hope is crucial for meaningful human existence.
    - He suggests that atheism without eschatology leads to despair and cynicism, emphasizing the importance of hope and justice.
    12:37 *🌌 Meillassoux's Critique of Post-Kantian Philosophy and Correlationism*
    - Meillassoux criticizes post-Kantian philosophy for limiting reason's access to ultimate reality through correlationism.
    - He argues that this limitation has led to the triumph of faith and irrational beliefs, undermining rational inquiry into metaphysical truths.
16:20 *🧠 Consciousness and Language in Meillassoux's Critique*
    - Meillassoux identifies consciousness and language as dominant themes in modern philosophy, criticizing their role in reinforcing a closed worldview.
    - He argues that these themes perpetuate a correlationist framework that denies access to absolute reality beyond human cognition.

10:35 Did no one edit the video? He said “the only renunciation of hope is smoothing” which makes much less sense the text on the video.

I read some of Meillassoux's works, and they are interesting for sure. I'm not sure its true that non-theistic philosophies take the same view of existence -- only without god -- that Christians take. That part seems a bit overstated.

What alternative does he propose? Explaining the subjective/objective distinction is not what is interesting, what would be interesting would be an alternative. Also form what I heard in this video it sounds like he doesn't respond to idealism? Does Meillassoux reference Schelling?
Overall good video and great narration voice.

His alternative is speculative realism and factuality. I really recommend to read after finitude to get a finer grasp of his philosophy and attitude towards idealism and the likes of Schelling (which he sees as a correlationist as well but one that makes the correlation itself the absolute if i remember correctly). The book is short clear and very enlightening
