As much as I miss winning, and anticipating our battles with the Golden State Warriors, knowing that we will crush literally everyone else who is put in front of us, I can not help but love that we can only go up from here. The draft is coming, and I am so excited. A top 3 pick guarantees us on of Chet, Jabari, or Paolo, with the fourth pick giving us Ivey... Who might literally be the best player in the draft even without being a great fit for what we are trying to do at the moment. If we get the fifth pick? It's tough, but I think we will make it work. I still love it. I've spent the last 12 years watching this team - I've probably watched close to 800 games over those 12 seasons. Every year I had some level of expectations that could somehow disappoint (particularly after 2014) and here we are - if we win 35 games next season? I'm cheering every single win. I'm pumping all the boys up about the team. I'm making my wife's eyes roll while I salivate over a bunch of twenty-something year old kids playing basketball... And I'm waiting for the next season. When JH13 was our guy, I spent the end of every season in constant anxiety. I don't live in Houston. Most people I know strongly dislike the Rockets (and especially James Harden). But, watching a guy like that was a pleasure - he was master at the art of basketball. Anyone who hates him, hates the core fundamentals of the game... But ultimately he could never overcome the stacked dynasty teams. I had to listen to people jeer at me over my love of the second best team in the west. I had to suffer over an image of a blocked 3 by Manu... The number 27 will always ring with a pure pain... Here we are, true Rockets fans. We have a 20 year old athletic beast who can shoot from everywhere, can finish everything, and can jump through the roof. We have a rookie Nikola Jokic... We have a 6th man of the year in the making, and we have three guys that buying teams NEED right now. I love Christian Wood, but he can do more for us by going to a contender. Eric Gordon? His jersey is already in my closet. If he leaves, I'll cheer his team on in every game they play, except for maybe 11 of them (even if he's on the blazers). KPJ, I hope he stays. But, we need him to use his length and speed to play defense. If he goes, I hope he figures it out. He's a great player. Next year, we're going to have a new top 5 pick to cheer. We're going to have a new guy who fell out of the lottery to prove every team that passed on him wrong... We will anticipates trades, we will cheer highlights, and we every win will feel BIG. It's a good time to be a Rockets fan.
