That's crazy to me, garlic is not just an eastern thing, it's an essential ingredient in a lot of French and Italian dishes too, some people really need to expand their palate a bit.
But the Chinese eat raw garlic. Just bite it as an apple. With noodles you get raw garlic.
Some people may have special reasons. I personally know some people (not me) who can not tolerate the taste of onion, ginger and garlic. Very rare but these people do exist and they are perfectly normal otherwise.
In my region we eat raw garlic with 拌面 (a soup-less noddle dish) hahahahah I just love spicy food
Yeah, of course we will respect everyone's preference. But it's difinitely a pity or loss. Garlic, cilantro and most important chili.

OMG I've been to the same resteraunt and that food was AUTHENTIC.
My local Roujiamo guy had a spicy version with tiny chopped up bits of cooked pepper and onion mixed in with the stewed meat. It was so good!

In Chinese, if a menu just says "meat 肉", and doesn't specifically state it's "beef", "lamb", "fish" or "chicken" etc., then it usually means pork.
That's what I recently learned, even I'm a native Chinese.
To be precise, Roujiamo is a snack of the Han nationality. The bread of the Muslim version of Roujiamo is relatively ordinary. The bread is delicious with beef, but the bread has no taste. The bread of the Han people's Roujiamo is very different. It has Many layers and crispy, only pork has this unique spice flavor.

Oh really ? I think that depends on the region, 肉 for me could be any sort of meat , and I’m from Ürümqi,Xinjiang China . It is true that in traditional Chinese cuisine pork is the main choice of meat . In my family it’s mainly beef though
Because in China pork is the most common meat in most provinces, so 肉 usually means pork.

There are a couple of different roujiamo肉夹馍 in Xi'an, cured beef roujiamo腊牛肉夹馍, and preserved pork roujiamo腊汁肉夹馍. The beef roujiamo is made by Muslims, and pork roujiamo is made by Han. And there are two common types of bread also, the crispy Tongguan Roujiamo老潼关肉夹馍, and the slightly softer half-raised bread called Baijimo白吉馍.
the bread is actually called Naan and is from India.

老外 is a derogatory term for Caucasians. I'm actually disappointed the lady use that term. Seems like more can be done to educate the Chinese on racial equality.

We like to add 老 to any noun and it is nothing bad, like 老哥dude 老姐sis 老弟bro 老爹oldman(father) 老表homie. 老+surname like 老李 老张 老白 is just casual calling without any negative emotion, actually most old couples like to use 老+surname to call their spose. And the term 老外 doesn't make anything horrible historically

Yes it’s from thousands years ago. Also in the western world so called “Japanese Ramen “ , it’s LA MIAN from China dynasty, the western world didn’t know it’s from China. Even today LAN ZHOU LA MIAN exists in LAN ZHOU city Gan Su province

@@kennethlew4341 There isn't only one traditional 肉夹馍 ... as there are many Muslim people in Xi An, for more than a thousand year, and they don't eat pork. That's why beef or lamb 肉夹馍 may be as traditional as pork 肉夹馍, even if you find it less tasty 😉

@@darrensun4432 Indeed beef, and especially pork, 肉夹馍 are the most common... I don't know about lamb version, I just saw someone mentioning it higher in the comments (maybe it's his own personal recipe 😆). Traditionally speaking, it's a very simple recipe, meat and bread, the name 肉夹馍 doesn't specify any kind of particular meat. I believe you can do it with whatever meat you have or whatever you can eat if you cannot eat pork... my parents are chinese, when cooking they would swap a kind of meat with another one from time to time depending on what they have in the fridge. The muslim (Hui) community which is quite big in Xi'an have eating this dish for so long, they have been eating beef or other kind meats instead of pork because of their religion, that's why I believe pork is not the only possible meat for a "traditional 肉夹馍", even if it may be the most common and the tastiest to fit with the dish.
They even better which cilantro and jalapeño bits inside it gives it a crunch and tastes more fresh

@@Surstromming22 Even if they look middle aged you should never call them a yi until they have grey hairs. It's like a politeness thing, even if they look old enough to be your aunt you should flatter them by calling them sis instead of aunty.
agreed. normally my parents and I would just call them miss, or 小姐 for both younger and middle aged women. They all love to hear it and it's more polite that way.
In Muslim Market, Xi'an, they use beef instead of pork. That's for sure.
