in my experience torpor has the biggest difference on a classic shaman than the other things. fungi is nice, but not required, epic is also nice for the free dot, but again not required. torpor is what helps you do all the crazy shaman stuff.
Necro/shaman is an awesome duo. I prefer summoned pets instead of messing around with necro charm but either way you can go just about anywhere for exp and loot without having to form a full group.
