    It’s so nice seeing Roz, Harvey, and Sabrina being so open minded. True friends right there.
    Also, Billy definitely has potential. I wish they’d show more of him so we can see his backstory or another side of him, like the sweet side they show at the dance. I think he should end up with his friend that has a crush on him.

    I don't think I've ever actually seen a young female to male trans person on a show. I don't watch things like drag or reality shows. The closest character I've seen is Beiste in glee but I think there's a difference in experience of someone who's young and someone who's an adult. Still both as hard as each other, but different to each other

    I feel like Theo has the strongest character arc in the show. A shy character (who is often bullied) learning to be brave is almost a trope, but to Theo, there's more to it. He's not just learning to be brave for the sake of character development, he's learning to be brave enough to be his authentic self.
    Although, I do wish that it had been Theo explaining to Harvey what it means to be trans instead of Roxy. I love Roxy, but I feel like it's more Theo's place to explain his identity.

    I know I’m getting old, and I never understood this whole trans thing... but I can’t heap enough praise on this show for portraying this situation in such an honest and human way. My regret is simple, that it took so long This subject matter should have been presented when TV was in its infancy back in the 1960’s and 1970s, our world would be so much better, kinder and open minded had it been openly discussed instead of our opinions being formed by faith based bigotry and hate.

      What? as an LGBT person, this whole story arc is nonsensical. She is a girl. She hasn't gone through transition to look like a boy or have taken hormones to have the strength of a boy, so to force herself into a boys' team is to ask the boys to hold back on her and is not fair to either the other girls or boys at the school. And to randomly barge into a boy's locker room WHILE STILL HAVING BREASTS (yes they are barely there but still, they're girl parts) when the boys tell her to take it off, well, if you're a guy, take it off then, what's the big deal? It's because she's not a guy. It's just nonsense. I can understand if it's AFTER transition, but this takes me out of the show because it's just illogical at this point

    • @uadhlagash7280
      @uadhlagash7280 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@littlemothasmr What I wrote does not qualify as transphobia, it is common sense. Being a girl who barges into a guys locker room while still possessing breasts and lacking the physical strength to play male sports on equal footing while demanding others around her to treat her as a dude will either result in her injury or the dismantling of sports as we know it. Being "trans" does not automatically make nonsensical actions valid.

Oh let me guess, embarrassing birthmark? Weird mole in weird place? Need to work out a bit more before you let anyone see it? Too many nachos? Something you need to work off? Or are you worried about your size? Too small? Well that doesn't mean anything? Embarrassed about being too big maybe? You know the Greek used to think that was a sign of being more animal than man, so they made their statues small. Come on, I give you a show, you give me a show. And I love that her friends just accepted Theo and carried on. That’s how it always should be. Gender and/or sexuality is personal. And when that person feels they are ready to reveal that about themselves, it is THEIR choice and THEIR truth. Whether you understand or believe or support it, it’s not up to you. I never saw the point in Theo’s character. Every scene he is in comes off as very whiny, pathetic, and overly dramatic. The character doesn’t have any personal growth and doesn’t contribute anything to the team in my opinion. I’m all for representation, but if you’re going to include trans struggles in a show, book, movie, etc then make sure the hardship reflects to the character’s growth rather than just simply pandering to the fans of the show. If they had given Theo an interesting backstory or an awesome ability like Roz then I would have loved to see more of him, but he was given a very limited ability (they honestly should have gave him the power to communicate with all of the dead rather than just his one aunt) that he rarely ever uses. All in all, he and Harvey were utterly redundant; the show could do without them.

    God this pisses me off so much especially when she just says she is now Theo and then Harvey has questions so the other girl says she is now a boy and she has always been a boy but she was not ready and now she is like it’s just fine that your friend is suddenly saying he is a guy. That would be shocking to most people I can’t believe we live in a world we’re we are supposed to be ok with everyone changing there gender at the drop of there hat. At the end of the day susie is a girl genetically and always will be if transgenders were more open to say that they are genetically what they are instead of saying that they are point blank there preferred gender then it wouldn’t be so weird. It also annoys me that susie just drops it like she has never thought about it we were just used to her been susie and now we have to see her as a guy she has had no counselling or anything and she still has so much growing up to do hormones and such. I also can’t stand the them they pronouns I will never call someone a they because there a person with a name which I will call them by I don’t go up to my girl mates and call them hey girl I say he Abby or hey Gary. It makes no sense. I heard the other day someone saying that they identify as a dog well if that’s the case then they will have to eat dog food be walked on a less sleep on the floor and not go to work or school just chill all day 😂 the world has gone nuts. Also when susie is in the boys changing rooms it’s fair for the lads to be uncomfortable not everyone is going to just accept this. And when they tell her to take her clothes off why did she take offence if she is a boy wouldn’t she be ok with stripping like the other lads and showering but no she has to have special requirements whatever why bring these shitty gender Stories into teenage shows that are supposed to be innocent !!!!!

    Why is this just being pumped into everything now? Doesn’t need to be. Takes a good show and knocks it down a peg to play to a subset.

    • @carboneltigereye
      @carboneltigereye  4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I disagree with the claim that this "doesn't need to be" and also disagree that CAOS is doing this simply to "play to a subset."
      First, do we need more positive transgender representations? Absolutely. Many minority groups, including trans people, have attempted to navigate four "stages" of media representation: invisibility, ridicule, recognition and respect. For much of the 20th Century, transgender humans were essentially invisible in mainstream media. We emerged as a more visible social force during the final decades of that century, but were typically portrayed as deranged and violent (e.g. the Buffalo Bill character in "Silence of the Lambs") or pathetic and tragic (e.g. Dil in "The Crying Game"). Things are finally beginning to improve and we are seeing more complex and authentic representations, but we still have a long way to go.
      It is impossible for me to prove the next claim with empirical evidence, but it is grounded in years of research on media representation and I believe this with every ounce of my being: Positive trans representations such as the representation of Theo in CAOS are saving lives.
      It is difficult for people who have never questioned their gender identity to understand how overwhelmingly difficult it is to live with some sort of personal truth and self-respect in a society that continues to treat trans identities as pathological and tragic. A 2018 study by the American Academy of Pediatrics found that 29.9 percent of teen trans women have attempted suicide, more than *half* of teen trans men have attempted suicide, and 41.8 percent of non-binary teens have attempted suicide. Our community *needs* characters like Theo and I'm grateful that he exists.
      Second, is CAOS simply doing this in order to cater to a fringe subset of the population? This is not very likely. The show's creator, Roberto Aguirre-Scasa, has been exploring issues of gender identity and sexual orientation for almost 20 years, and he has done so within the Archie narrative universe. One of his first stage plays portrayed an alternate universe in which Archie Andrews comes out of the closet. He also developed ground-breaking LGBTQ representations as a comic book writer, and has received multiple awards from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).
      I have been trying to prune the comments section of hateful and transphobic remarks, but your post doesn't come across as hateful as much as it comes across as genuinely perplexed about why we are seeing more and more representations of transgender identity on our screens. I understand that it seems strange from the outside, but if you think about it -- and if you read the comments below from people who feel so validated and inspired by Theo -- you can see that we desperately need these representations.

      @@carboneltigereye Not acknowledging someones wording doesn't mean discrimination though.

    • @carboneltigereye
      @carboneltigereye  4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@ph143 I'm not sure I understand your point. If you're saying that some trans people get too outraged about pronouns, I understand how it might seem that way from the outside. But I guess my question is "why shouldn't people acknowledge each other's preferences about what they're called?" If you told me that you preferred to be called "Phil" or "Paul" rather than "PH," I would call you by that name. I mean, I could insist that you be called @ph because this was the handle that you selected when you signed up for an account, but why not just respect your preference?
      Disregarding someone's personal naming preferences is a different type of discrimination than more heavy-handed forms such as being fired or beaten or arrested for one's gender orientation, but it's still incredibly rough for many people who are fighting to be viewed as valid human beings. When people insist on *intentionally* using the wrong pronoun, or when people jokingly say things like "I identify as an attack helicopter," there is something important and troubling happening. If one deliberately ignores a trans person's preferred name or pronoun, one is telling the trans person, "You have no right to ask me to use a different pronoun because you're not really who you think you are." 'Attack helicopter jokes' are also a pretty clear rejection of trans identity.
      People absolutely have the right to not acknowledge pronouns and to make insensitive jokes. Being committed to free speech means that people can say whatever they want, even if it is hurtful or mean. But I keep coming back to the question, "Why *shouldn't* people acknowledge each other's preferences?"

    • @ph143
      @ph143 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@carboneltigereye I disagree that objecting to use someones preferred pronoun is the same as saying you don't believe who they are. A personal truth is different from truth. Its the same religion. You're not obligated to live someone elses life.

    • @carboneltigereye
      @carboneltigereye  4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@ph143 I'm not sure that analogy works. If someone tells me that they are Buddhist, Christian, or Jewish, I don't have to believe in the tenets of Buddhism, Christianity or Judaism to accept the fact they identify with their chosen religion. Nor, do I have to believe in the tenets of those religions to wish someone a Merry Christmas or a Happy Hanukkah or a Happy Vesak if I know that they celebrate those holidays. It all boils down to respect and tolerance of different choices.
      None of us are obligated to live someone else's life. Acknowledging a trans human's preferred pronoun doesn't make you somehow transgender. It's simply acknowledging that this is important to that person, and -- because you respect that person -- you use the term when interacting with them.

      It's not about a target audience. It's about representation. They're only seeking an audience who don't take issue with others being themselves. People who aren't judgmental or prejudiced. Open-minded people who understand that what other people do doesn't effect them, in the slightest. That said, if you can't stand to see marginalized groups shown in a positive light, then maybe a show about witches of all things isn't for you, anyway. I'm sure the creators won't miss your viewership, or your archaic views on gender and sexuality. Though, why you felt the need to express your lack of tolerance at all is beyond me.
