  • Today I figured I would explain my reasoning for taking a slight break from youtube. I know this information is out there but hopefully it can help more people. It's my 4th day of tapering off Paxil and I go through the helpful things to cope. I also go through the things to potentially look out for. Hope it helps!!

Tapering or taper is me referring to lowering meds usually by a half until you can't anymore. 10mg -> 5mg etc. Wanted to point that out in case any confusing!

Thank you so much for this video. I have been tapering off paxil for 4 months. I went from 30-20-15-10 and now I’m on 5. I am absolutely miserable and mortified with how hard and how sick I have been. They don’t tell you how sick you can get. I’m NEVER going back. This is a reminder to don’t rely on an industry where it stops working or makes you gain so much weight that you get high cholesterol. It’s been awful. Thanks paxil community. It’s gonna get better … hopefully..

Can't even explain how much this video is helping me right now. I couldn't understand what was happening while getting these brain zaps. The only way I could kind of explain the way I am feeling is an almost constant brain fog along with a feeling of electric shock. My head chest and arms feel "fuzzy". I cant wait to be done with these withdraw symptoms.

I'm so very happy to see so many videos on TH-cam about brain zaps while tapering off antidepressants. And my experience I was on Paxil many many years ago and I was on it for a very long time. I absolutely loved Paxil and it completely changed my life to where I can honestly say I was probably the most productive and happiest I've been while being on that particular drug. Unfortunately I reached a point where the medication was no longer working and my doctor decided to start tapering me off. I'll never forget the look on my doctor's face when I attempted to explain what the sensation I was feeling in my brain was like. I remember using the term electrical zapping and he gave me a look that convinced me he had no idea what I was talking about. He want as far as to even suggest that I was mistaken in what I was feeling. Fast forward all these years and it's great to see that the medical profession is finally coming around to accepting that brain zaps are a real thing. Unfortunately in my case it was a horrible experience and I have not fully committed to taking many antidepressants since then because of my fear of brain zaps. In my case it took over a year before I was finally over that sensation. Thanks for sharing your story

Paxil helped me stop crying all the time but I still struggled with depression, just as bad as usual especially when I was PMSing. I’m currently tapering because not only did it not help me but it did make me gain weight and make me lose interest in sex completely. The sex thing is a huge bummer for me as well as the weight gain :( 80lbs after only a year…… today I’m breaking out in cold sweats and getting nauseous. The brain zaps are so brutal it knocks my balance off and every 5 minutes I’m getting little “attacks” of brain zaps :( thanks for sharing your story, it helps to hear I’m not alone in this struggle. I’m hoping to transition out of drugs and into therapy; I think my problem is more trauma related and less brain chemistry related. Good luck on your journey man

If you’re thinking about tapering try switching to a drug with a shorter half-life and then taper after you’ve adjusted to that one, I think that’s the hack. I felt no withdrawal between meds

No one told me when starting Paxil what it would be like. My newest doc is taking me off of it (we reduced from 40 to 10 over 2 months and now I’m off of it [day 3]) and informed me of the major side effects that I had been experiencing. Two that really stood out to me were weight gain (she said it’s often referred to as “Packs on the pounds” in the community. I thought I had just gotten fat and lazy after a lower limb injury but nopeeeee turns out the lack of energy was also a side effect) and that it is sometimes perscribed to men to help them last longer. I had absolutely no libido for 3 years and thought it was just me.
Moral of my story is information is power. Stabilized mood is great but not crying every day isn’t the standard of happy you should be striving for, if it comes at the expense of every other aspect of your life (unable to maintain employment, no sex drive, weight gain, exhaustion).

The worst brain zaps I've ever had came after a high dose of CBN (basically what THC converts to in an expired cannibis product). I'm talking many zaps per second. It was almost impossible to walk. Much worse than the zaps I experienced when going cold turkey off an SSRI.
The only other trigger I've found is when I miss a lot of sleep while on ADHD medications.

I wasn't planning to quit paxil, but I (for other reasons) got hospitalized with an ambulance to emergency care, where I first was on a coma for 4 days, after I woke up I was on very strong drugs for the next about 9 days. So basically after 13 days at hospital, I got back to this world and realized "wait a minute, where are my paxils, I haven't took them at all for 13 days".
I was on 30mg a day, had been on it for +3 years and basically went off cold turkey, didn't experience a single zap / withdrawal. And again, I wasn't even planning to quit it in the first place.

I'm on day 5 of coming off of 100mgs (originally prescribed 200mgs) of Cymbalta cold turkey because my insurance won't cover it anymore (400 a bottle). Im horrified at my doctor for giving me such a high dose for my first time being on it and not letting me know any of the horrible withdrawl symptoms. Brain zaps, nausea, crying over stupid stuff. Its so hard doing my part as a parent at the moment, but my husband's there for me. I just woke up from the most vivid nightmare of my daughter being in harm and I woke up bawling my eyes out. I hope this goes away soon. The brain zaps are annoying but the dreams I can't take. I wish I could have tapered down if I knew sooner too. Hope you're ok❤

Something that I have noticed is that no one thought of this. Like Jerry Seinfeld said. Breaking up is like trying to knock down a soda machine. You shouldn't try to do it in 1 shot. You have to rock it back and forth a few times and then you can knock it over. Quitting anything is the same thing. Why do we automatically think that when we quit paxil, it has to be in one shot? Stop it until you don't feel well and then start again and each time you quit, it will get easier. I say this because discontinuation did not work for me, but I am not you. I hope this helps someone. Try discontinuation first and consult your doctor and don't wait until it gets to hard if you try quitting. Who says you have to do it in 1 shot. You have your whole life to quit. Take your time.

I'm wondering if I continue to take it how severe the withdrawal symptoms might be and how long it would take to taper off when I decide to down the line. Thanks! :)

I have yet to find a way to stay off them completely bec once the withdrawal stopped I went back to my old anxious ways. I am now up to 20mg and oddly it is doing the opposite to my hunger. The only thing different is for me personally - 10mg nonstop eating but ok libido - 20mg hunger settles but little libido. The point they like to say at first is it can help towards it but more or less you don't just have the symptoms go away unfortunately. Its more about finding what helps best to cope most of the time meds are what people decide on. Natural is another passage but nothing has helped me like paxil does. just a thought and i wish you luck. the more you take them the harder it will be to get off though so if that is your main goal i would see a herbal specialist for holistic advice. ive tried st johns wort 5 htp ashwagandha all kinds of natural stuff but keep coming back to paxil. there also might be something that 'suits you better' they do have dna saliva swabs now for likeliness a medicine would help. god

Im so tired, muscle pain everywhere, crying spells, extreme anxiety and confusion As if im disoriented and disassociate from my entourage. Don’t know where you are on your journey now, but for me, those awful symptoms (the same as yours, also vivid nightmares - I couldn’t sleep alone) did not go away without having to very gradually taper my use. I was down to specks of pills, nearly dust, I ended up having to taper down for so long. The symptoms persisted even after I was completely off, but they were not nearly as severe. It took several months to he normal again.

Harrison, Taper gradually by reducing the power. Heal yourself. Reduce negative thoughts. Its quite simple and I have been doing for years. . Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts and anxiety For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight with your thoughts. Slowly negative thoughts will reduce and relax the mind. Deep inhalation is not needed. Whenever you are free during the day or night before sleep sit or lie down, be still and observe your breath. Being still reduces negative thoughts. Make the above practice a permanent habit to have a good life. Best wishes and prayers. Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

I’ve been taking Paxil for more than 20 years… I don’t know if I’m experiencing any negative side effects, maybe just the Libido issue… plus I’m 61 so that Shit starts to fail as you get older. My issue wasn’t Depression it was Anger and dislike of myself. I guess Paxil works
because I don’t have either issues anymore or maybe I’ve outgrown them.
